Contemporary French / American
Warm, cozy prohibition era decor in Victoria's 'Old Town". In 1882 Harry Johnson first published the Bartenders’ Manual/Guide for Hotels and Restaurants. He is still known today for his sagacious writings on service excellence and customer care. He bought the Little Jumbo Saloon in New York from a peer and rival named Jerry Thomas who had founded it in 1866. Because of Thomas’ pioneering work in popularizing cocktails across the United States; he is considered "the father of American mixology”. In addition to writing the seminal work on cocktails, his creativity and showmanship established the image of the bartender as a creative professional. We pay homage to these two and our Little Jumbo emphasizes the fine craft of preparing fresh local food with a focus on continental and contemporary and pairing it with fine wines and the best of classic and modern mixology. A particular emphasis is on creating exceptional customer experience, something very dear to Harry Johnson’s heart.

Consistently a great experience! The new menu is deliciously creative. Try the warm potato salad (fingerlings, puree, bacon), escabeche mussels with veggie fritter... and bone marrow is back! Lots of vegetarian options. Want to try the lamb burger and grilled brassica next time :) Service is always top notch, and the cocktails are legendary. The wine list needs an update or two.

Trendy place where both young hipsters and experienced oldsters can meet to enjoy a common interest in mixology and gastronomy dispensed by the staff at Little Jumbo. Any age will enjoy 'Feeling 23' while nibbling on snacks and share plates or feasting on big plates. The preparation of the food fare is equally as impressive as the cocktails being prepared behind the bar. Has become one of our 'must visit' places when in Victoria.

We were new to the restaurant and went for the dine around menu. The food choices were good and the drink menu was extensive. Our server was helpful and attentive. We want to go back to sample the truffle fries and the new menu.

Really enjoyed the dine around menu, and that there was an option to do smaller sized wine pairings. Our server was fantastic - attentive and genuinely interested in helping with beverage choices and sharing info on the wines paired with dinner.

Delicious cocktails and delicious food! I will be haunted by the Albacore Tuna Crudo on the Dine Around menu. Maybe one day it will come back on the regular menu. :) We don't get to Little Jumbo as much as we'd like as we don't get downtown too often. But after this visit, I feel we will make more of an effort to do so.

This little "hole in the wall" gem is worth a visit. Fantastic craft cocktails and although they have a limited food menu - everything is fantastic and you can't go wrong.

I took my son to Little Jumbo for his 25th birthday. The service was great- the server was able to recommend cocktails that we would enjoy based on our taste in drinks, and she did not steer us wrong. Though the portions look small, I left very stuffed. We had a cocktail each, a shared appy, and I had the duck for dinner. It was exquisite, and I will have to make an excuse to go back soon.

Always excellent in all aspects. Best food, creative cocktails, wine list, knowledgeable friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. Hums along... and you can have a quiet conversation with your dining partner(s). Victoria's #1 !! The special that night was delish - crispy roasted duck breast with parsnip/apple puree, baby carrots, navy bean cassoulet and tasty, unusual Birch syrup!

We have been to Little Jumbo many times. The service has always been excellent. Drinks are unique and usually very tasty. I felt the food quality and portion size this time were poor. My son doesn’t eat pork and there were several items that either had pork in it or were the main course. It would be nice if one of the desserts were chocolate but, that is my preference.

Little Jumbo was one of the best dinning experiences we have had in quite some time. We were especially impressed with the professionalism of the serving and greeting staff; they came across as if they had been trained in Europe. Our server made it an absolutely great experience.

We really liked the smaller menu and there were great options on it. The options for local products were impressive and our meal was expertly produced, winning our minds, tastes and aromas. The local wine selection was really great and allowed us to try some wine we hadn't had before. Cocktails were excellent.

It was really cool to see the fabulous and expansive bar and see they also had an Absinth fountain. I can't wait to come back and try it.

I would highly recommend Little Jumbo for either cocktails or a great meal.

Celebrating my wife’s birthday with creative and tasty cocktails combined with excellently prepared, locally-sourced food makes for a spectacular combination.

Even before being served, the bartenders put on a show. But they aren’t throwing bottles around and spilling liquor on the floor. It’s a choreographed effort to assemble inspired and delicious cocktails.

The drinks are only matched by perfectly cooked octopus (one of the top two preparations we have ever had) followed by a lingcod in mushroom dashi that was out of this world delicious.

High marks across the board. Worth every penny.

Little Jumbo is surprisingly good. It’s a bit of a closet space (reservations highly recommended) with no windows. The bar is fantastic and the food is crazy good. We had a lamb neck that was fall-off-the-bone tender and the whole assembly was in concert. Highly recommended - but it won’t be a cheap dinner.

It was a birthday dinner for my husband. He chose Little Jumbo and it was the perfect choice for us. We split each meal so we both got to taste..besides, it's romantic. My favorite was the baba ghanoush and Shayne's was the pork belly. If you haven't been here, you must try. Great service and wonderful ambiance.

I had the duck which was served in a bowl
Awkward to eat and better on a plate
Too many boring potatoes and I like potatoes. Could have been made more tasty with a variety of veg
Others had lamb and the octopus and loved their meals

We thoroughly enjoyed our early evening corner table and were very well taken care of by Karissa, the chefs, that bartenders and running team at Little Jumbos. Scrumptious and delicate grilled octopus, warm quinoa salad (a special that night so yummy), clams with subtle fennel broth, then onto churros for dessert.
What's missing? We had a great atmosphere - fantastic cocktails (they make a mean Negroni thats for sure), superb service from the Adam, the maitre de, and most especially Karissa. What we would REALLY bing us back more often - more GREENs - anything - something in the way of lighter fare - and a slightly larger menu selection.
We will always come back, we do LOVE Little Jumbo - the exquisite local food, especially seafood, but we crave variety!!
If you've never never been - make sure to go!!!

I have been going to Little Jumbo for years, it is a fantastic place for the energy of the room and they have a fantastic array of cocktails and food which is generally better shared than enjoyed alone. Recently the staff have been a little less engaged and seem to be going through the motions, this is a shift from the past but it might be due to the popularity that they are just exhausted. Be aware, this is not in any way a place to hang out for dinner and drinks without having the Costco sticker shock moment at the end of the night. However, it is a place that once you go you will return as the ambience and energy of the place is unrivalled in my opinion and that lasts in your memory longer than the credit card bills at the end of the month.
