Contemporary French / American
Warm, cozy prohibition era decor in Victoria's 'Old Town". In 1882 Harry Johnson first published the Bartenders’ Manual/Guide for Hotels and Restaurants. He is still known today for his sagacious writings on service excellence and customer care. He bought the Little Jumbo Saloon in New York from a peer and rival named Jerry Thomas who had founded it in 1866. Because of Thomas’ pioneering work in popularizing cocktails across the United States; he is considered "the father of American mixology”. In addition to writing the seminal work on cocktails, his creativity and showmanship established the image of the bartender as a creative professional. We pay homage to these two and our Little Jumbo emphasizes the fine craft of preparing fresh local food with a focus on continental and contemporary and pairing it with fine wines and the best of classic and modern mixology. A particular emphasis is on creating exceptional customer experience, something very dear to Harry Johnson’s heart.

Everything is always consistent! Great cocktails, great food, great service, great ambiance. And I love that the restaurant is very COVID aware. Thank you.

The experience, food and Staff were amazing. We felt very safe during these COVID times and would definitely go again. However, if you do not feel comfortable eating in the restaurant they do offer take out and cocktails to go!
Thanks to everyone at Little Jumbo for making the night great.

Little Jumbo is amazing! The drinks are perfection and the food is always amazing. I'm never disappointed when I go there. The last time I went I wasn't able to have an alcoholic cocktail, so they very kindly made me some amazing temperance drinks. I was really impressed at the complexity and thought that went into the drinks and appreciated being able to have a non-alcoholic 'adult' drink. The bartender even came over to check to make sure they were to our liking.

100% recommend this place!

Very tasty food.
I felt bad for eating it because the food was so beautiful.
Instagram worthy.
Some of the food was a bit too salty for my liking but they brought us a lot of bubbly water so I survived lol.
Seriously nice place.
Yeah this was a good place and the bathrooms had cotton hand towels. That is all.

The ambiance, drinks, and food at Little Jumbo are great. My one critique would be the fries, served with an excellent aïoli. I think they were twice-cooked, which is the way I like them, but it was as if the first cooking wasn't quite enough as the fries were actually kind of hard. Too bad, as everything else was superb.

The food and drinks are way overpriced for what you get. I spent just as much as I would at a place like the Keg but at least I’d be full. The food is for people who aren’t hungry when they arrive. We had to go order takeout after our $126 dinner. I don’t know how this place is in business. How is duck on top of hash browns $42?! What a scam and rip off this place is. Avoid and if you want a nice dandy restaurant with good value I suggest El Terrazzo!

Overall it was a nice evening but it was marred by the service we received upon entry. My husband and I had an early reservation and the restaurant was empty. We were to be seated at the only table where intimate conversation was not possible, so we apologetically requested that we sit at one of the larger tables so we could sit side by side to talk (was a very rare date night!). The host got annoyed and said all big groups were coming in so he couldn’t accommodate. He sat us in the two bar seats by the door (which opens and closes all night with cold air rushing in and people checking in and phone ringing the whole time). The other bar seats were even empty so no reason to put us there. He then proceeded to sit tables of 2 at EVERY other table in the restaurant for the duration of our stay. Not a single larger party and he’d have known that given that all had reservations. Felt like a real jerk move. For the past 5 years, little jumbo has been our favorite and go to restaurant in town but we eventually left to go have drinks and dessert down the road at the wind cries Mary, where we were treated very well even as drop ins. And no non Refundable $40 reservation fee either! I think the little jumbo host, though the restaurant is doing well in terms of traffic during this pandemic ought to remember that’s it’s loyal locals like us that have made it so. We also saw him being short with others that came in. Hoping for a better experience next time. Rest of the staff were great. Food yummy as always, but that host needs some hospitality training.

Little jumbo is great. They have quality menu options (though recently a bit less appealing to vegetarians), a very good selection of alcohol, great bartenders and solid service. The food, as always, is top notch. Even with the precautions necessary due to the pandemic, the ambiance is still good! On top of it all, they're taking COVID-19 seriously, with a temp check at the door, plenty of distance between patrons, and all the servers wear masks. I would be happy to visit this place anytime.

We were constantly reminded from the minute we sat down there was a time limit for us to be there. This happened 5 times while we were seated, this is unacceptable in my opinion. Won’t be returning to this restaurant this is a very bad decision by the management and makes it for a very uncomfortable dining experience.

Waiter rushed us throughout our meal. There was a time limit and we didn’t get a chance to try dessert. In three occasions they reminded us of the time we had left. Pressure while I’m eating is a big no-no.

I love Little Jumbo, Their COVID19 procedures are excellent. The food and drinks were delicious. They carefully accommodated a food restriction. With the extra plastic dividers and fewer bodies the room is a bit noisier than usual, but that's a small complaint.

A beautiful place, with great drinks. The server with the short blonde hair, however, was clearly impatient and fairly short of temper. Not quite sure why, but we did feel a bit like we were somehow "inconvenient". We made our decisions quickly and didn't ask for anything special, so I could do with some better service when paying top dollar. The lamb tartar had WAY too much sesame oil, it was kind of all you could taste. But the duck was delish, and good portions of each. Ah well. We enjoyed ourselves.

Went here for an anniversary dinner and we were SO disappointed. The ambiance is cozy and service was very good, but the food was the big disappointment. Oh and the wine list. Started with the lamb tartare and heirloom tomato salad. The lamb was the only dish we enjoyed- although the baguette slices were too charred. They obviously didn’t provide enough baguette for the portion and predictably charged extra for more. The tomato salad was inedible (and the only salad on the menu). It had a very odd smoky emulsion with it that overpowered the whole dish. It’s all we could taste. We actually didn’t finish it. For entrees we had the duck and flat iron steak. The duck was not cooked properly, with undercooked skin (not crispy) and none of the fat rendered so that was unpleasant. The meat itself was rubbery and lacked flavour. The flat iron was meh. Nothing great, served with lots of fries. That’s it. Dessert was also disappointing- the ‘mille feuille’ was more like chocolate mousse accompanied by two crispy wafers. The rhubarb tart pastry was hard and the filling underflavoured. It’s like the chef didn’t actually taste anything and was relying on presentation only. The menu is odd, one salad only - but 3 different appetizers that were some form of spreadable meat. For a small menu this seemed imbalanced. The wine list, as well, was limited and unoriginal in any way. Overall this place lacked any true quality or thoughtfulness on any front - menu design, wine list creativity and, worst of all, food preparation. It was a very expensive mistake.

We made a reservation ahead of time. When we got there we were told we were limited to 1.5 hours but we were not made aware of that at the time of booking.
Food was fine . We had the flat iron steak and it came with a bunch of fries , no veggies.
Cocktail drink was unique.
Service was good.
Plexiglass barriers in place.
