It was my first time at the Limewood. Everything was wonderful....except for the power outage!
This “review” is based on my one and only dining experience at Limewood, so it probably should be weighed with a grain of fleur de sel. It wasn’t bad, but truthfully, I expected it to be a little better than it was. If it were in my power to fix a few things, I would start by turning the noise level down a few decibels from raucous to energetic. (The wood and tile flooring is tres chic but does nothing to dampen the pervasive din.) When a place gets this noisy, my strategy is to order a stiff drink. An excellent old fashioned from their capable mixologist did the trick - no complaint there.
The menu offered good things too but seemed to have a few holes in it, which is to say, if you are not up for a $125 steak or a burger or fried chicken among the choice of main plates, there is the roasted cauliflower and not much else. I am not one of those “burgers-are-cuisine” folks from Los Angeles, but I played it safe and went with the burger and fries. I have to say, they really were superior - again, no problems with execution here.
Maybe I’m too old-school (or just too old) but I like to find the classics as well as the trends represented among my choices, and I prefer an atmosphere that is not quite so bracing and more relaxing. I remember the gracious restaurant that formerly occupied the ballroom in the Claremont. I guess I was hoping for something more transitional than a radical change of scene.
Overall, it's not worth the money, even with the views. The service was mediocre (though I'm aware of all the staff shortages so am quick to forgive). The first table were were sat at was a square table for 4 - there were 5 of us. It also was so wobbly that we just couldn't eat on it. They moved us, but it took a while. The next table was an oddly high table - more like what you'd have at a casual hamburger spot or a bar. The menu (at least for brunch) is both small (number of dishes) and overly complicated (lacking basics like eggs Benedict or other nice brunch standards but including things like sweet potato duck hash, which my dad got and only finished half of, because it was weird). All the food I tried other then the French fries totally lacked seasoning. And the price of brunch for 5 (only 2 people had cocktails) was close to $300. Not worth it. Last time we'll go there. Too bad, because I had hoped it would be a nice celebratory brunch for both a birthday and an anniversary.
Cute setting but they have no fresh squeezed orange juice which I was surprised about given the caliber of the place. The breakfast menu is limited and they didn’t even have some thing as simple as egg Benedict on the menu.
A limited and pricey menu for lunch
Would recommend adding few entree size salads
Service and staff were great!
I wish they had a place for a party of 6 to be near the window inside. We had a good time.
Everything was delicious! I ordered oysters, garlic shrimp and the smash burger.
The Host was a STANDOUT! Very hospitable and assisted my friend with downloading her vaccination card (that she forgot) …
Friendly service, civilized surroundings… Went for brunch and the Blistered Peppers, Duck confit, and Negronis were fabulous! Coupled with easy parking, we will be back!
It was my daughter's 21st birthday. The food was delicious, I ordered the fried chicken with French toast. Very Good! My wife really enjoyed eggs with salmon. The service was second to none. This is my family first time having brunch at Limewood. We will definitely come back again
Gorgeous restaurant with the most beautiful views.
Beautiful location; service was terrible and the waiter was rude and inattentive. Though we love the place, we won’t go back now due to the service.
Great ambiance for dinning with the view of SF Bay.
BMW event at the Claremont. Had dinner after the event.
Our waitress was very slow. We had to flag her down for dessert menu and waited a long time for our bill. Not very responsive.
We reserved an outdoor table for 6 a week in advance. We waited for the table for 25 minutes. The dishes for Sunday brunch were very limited and small. The wine very pricey
My server was great, and the ambiance was loud and lively, but it took nearly AN HOUR for me to get my food, despite having a reservation. I was only a table for one, so I have no idea why it took so long to grill a hamburger, but that service was certainly disappointing.
I don’t typically do reviews but I love this place. The staff is just the best and the food and wine list are very good. A lot of hotels and restaurants have not done a great job recently but the staff at the hotel and at Limewood are so accommodating and friendly. I will be back.
Our waiter was great!!!!
Restaurant is beautiful with gorgeous view, food is good but menu is limited
The Yellowjacket made brunch uncomfortable.
Creative food preparations . Good choices . Nice services .
Bees! We were seated at the back corner table as you approach the deck. We asked to be moved to a two top at the edge of the deck. The hostess said that’s where the bees are and they try not to seat people there. Seems odd as I’m at the restaurant frequently and there are always people there and in fact people were seated there after us.
The bees were horrible. My guest had to switch sides of the table and we swatted throughout our meal. A waitress or waiter put ‘something’ out to shift the bees somewhere else. It didn’t work. And I noted that the people at the two tops at the front edge of the deck, with the best view, were not swatting bees over their meal.
So the reason to not moving us wasn’t true and that’s annoying. Especially for a frequent patron.
We ate outside on the deck overlooking the Bay.
The food was imaginative and delicious.
The service was friendly and prompt.
We will definitely be back!
Great customer service . Amazing views.
Wanted to order their $25 hamburger, but they only prepared it medium-well. Waiter said it was because it's a "smash" burger. Still doesn't make sense - if quality meat. Brussel sprout salad, had two whole sprouts and a few shaved. Mostly lettuce & apples. Very disappointing. Heirloom pasta needed a bit more flavor (another $25 - no meat!)
Love the location - but restaurant needs to step up their game for the prices they charge.
I was surprised how limited the menu was and limited heating elements outside
We had a wonderful brunch on the outside patio. Great service!
Great view from the terrace at this atmospheric landmark hotel. Good food and attentive service.
For a Fairmont property, the featured restaurant Limewood left a lot to be desired. The entree selection was very minimal and it appeared they were understaffed. It was a little pricey for what you get. Luckily the bartender made great drinks. I would only recommend for drinks and appetizers.
We were there in the early evening. There was a wedding on the balcony. We had a window table lookin out over the city. Enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and had an amazing meal.
We reserved a table outside for Covid safety. Opentable showed outdoor tables, so we selected one. When we arrived they told us the outdoor area had been bought out by a wedding and they couldn’t accommodate our request.
We sat in the front of the Claremont building in the roundabout entryway. Lights are pretty, grateful for the space heaters as it gets cold when the fog rolls in. Wine list was fairly minimal for by the glass wines, we didn't have cocktails, so can't speak to that. We had the tomato bucatini pasta and a burger. Nothing was outstanding, wine was expensive, service was mixed depending on who the person was that came to our table.
Menu was small, food was exceedingly expensive and there was very little variety.
Inside tables are very noisy.
Food was excellent, especially scallops. View from the patio was great. Free parking was a plus.
The restaurant is very noisy and they have the tables packed pretty close together especially considering covid.
The food was good. Menu is very limited so we chose the steak for all of us. The steak is 12 oz. which is a large portion for us. They do not offer a smaller portions like a lot of restaurants are doing. There were no side salads on the menu, and your steak comes with a large pile of fries —- no veggie or salad in sight.
We all took home one half of our steaks!
When I made the reservation, they asked if it was a special occasion. I answered “yes, a 70th birthday”. They did not acknowledge the birthday —- So why ask??
This was not the elegant dining we were expecting. It seems that restaurant is closed. It was more like eating in a noisy bar! When the elegant restaurant reopens, perhaps we will try again. We did enjoy just being at the beautiful Claremont.
Everyone the staff made feel welcomed, tried their best for us to feel comfortable. Provided free Mammad for 3 of us to treat my daughter’s 21st Birthday, and Special birthday slice of cake with candle at the end was very special to her. I made great choice of selecting this place to celebrate her special day with family.
She goes to UC Berkeley, one of the wish to go there before she finishes her college.
BRING YR VACCINATION CARD - they don't make this information obvious enough when you make a reservation.
We made reservations for the outdoor deck to celebrate my wedding which felt WAY less safe, given the ventilation was impeded by the tent.
We were really disappointed. I would ask that the information about having your vaccination card be more prominent - on the website itself, in the text message confirmations, and on the OpenTable page, rather than buried at the end of a paragraph - the entirety of which does not show up until you click to read more. We are not residents of Berkeley, so we are not up to date on the restaurant protocols. They vary by county.
The food was good, but didn't outweigh the disappointment and frustration and concern about safety in the unventilated tent.
the waiter did a good job and was attentive. it bothered both of us that he, however, did not fully cover his nose with his mask. granted that all were required to be fully vaccinated to enter the restaurant, however, if wearing a mask, we suggest that it be worn properly.
Drinks and dinner with friends
