L'Escargot is London's oldest and most celebrated French restaurant serving classic French provincial dishes. It also has a great cocktail bar with reasonably priced cocktails and all day dining. Upstairs in the cocktail Bar there are live music acts every weekend.

The restaurant has welcomed luminaries such as Coco Chanel, Charles de Gaulle, Maurice Chevalier, Laurence Olivier, Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon. Princess Diana was a regular and to this day the restaurant is the home of many celebrated personalities.

It is located close to all the major West-End theatres, which makes it an excellent pre and post theatre dining spot.

Fabulous little restaurant including gorgeous cosy private rooms. The lobster bisque was exquisite as was the Halibut with Hollandaise. My friends loved their escargot, naverin of lamb and confit duck. The service was efficient and friendly. Very reasonably priced - and in the centre of soho

The restaurant was lovely and the service excellent just the right level of attentive without being overbearing. Our starters where lovely especially the snails and lobster bisque. In my mind the only thing that let the meal down was the halibut which I found dry, and at £39 think it should have been perfection. I didn’t not bring this to the restaurants attention as I was dining with family who did not want any negativity brought to the evening , which I totally agreed with as everything else was great. But at £39 I would have expected better

Sadly this lovely old restaurant seems to have become a tourist haunt. We had the pre theatre menu a the quality was pretty poor. Bread as stale. Onion soup so hot it was inedible and the bread and cheese had totally disintegrated by the time it had cooled down. Steak was tough and fatty. Very disappointing as I remember it as a far better place.

The food was a real delight, with the freshly cooked grilled halibut, Hollandaise sauce, and the tournedos of beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce being particularly delicious. A special mention goes to the succulent soufflé au chocolat. However, it’s unfortunate that the tables are placed so close together, which significantly detracted from the experience. The atmosphere was ruined by five very loud, overly animated women and one man setting nearby. It would have been much better if we had been seated in the second room, which was completely empty.

A delight. Unobtrusive service, beautiful lamb, I could (and probably will) eat it again right now.
