Strange place! The menu is extremely odd and does not work well for a wine bar type establishment. The choices are strange because of the mix of ingredients and they just do not go well together!
As a well travelled European this place lacks something and because of that, the menu is trying far too hard to be different and as a result is confused and lacks cohesion.
I do not recommend this place at all it’s neither special or memorable.
Good food and good service. We've only had brunch here and the food is consistently good.
We wound up at Les Marchands by chance after another dinner plan imploded and we so thoroughly enjoyed our visit. What a delightful find. Our server was so helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out of the kitchen looking a tasting divine. The Brussels sprouts were a hit as were the marinated mushrooms. The drinks were excellent and creative, the wines superb. We'll certainly be going back.
Very pricey. Food is certainly good and well prepared and presented nicely but not really out of this world. Wine is outrageously expensive. Cheese and charcuterie plate was quite good. Bread was bland and boring. Very beautiful spot. Billy Baldwin was at the bar reading his phone all night.

A great experience as always. My friend and I had the shakshuka, which is delicious. We only had coffee this time, but they have an excellent wine selection. I don't think I've tried the cocktails yet, but they sound good, and include a selection of original recipe historic drinks. The patio was perfect for quiet conversation.
I love Les Marchands - it has it all - delicious, creative food, ambiance and fun! I especially like that you can share plates because it is hard to choose just one.
Our first time at Les Marchands (though we had heard good things about it in the paper and from other friends.) We enjoyed a lovely table out on the patio and were unexpectedly treated to an impromptu short set of music by Kenny Loggins (who lives in SB and sometimes does these things.) The food was uniformly delicious from the get-go: a bowl of the most wonderful Castelvetrano olives in a spicy/garlicky oil and a charcuterie platter that we all shared that was plentiful and with just the right combinations of sweet, savory, and salty notes. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly mid-rare and came enveloped in a slightly sweet, mostly savory/flavorful sauce. Wine was a little pricey, even for SB, but otherwise it was a hit. We'll be back! On a night with no live music, it would be a moderate noise level or even quiet, probably, but the music (and the music maker) made it an energetic evening.
We have eaten at Les Marchands a few times now and it has quickly become our favorite place for brunch in SB. Amazing biscuits & waffle BLT! My only wish was that there was a bit more seating on patio for those of us that dine with our puppies.
Les Marchands is an outstanding gem set in the middle of the funk zone. The food is creative and delicious. DIshes are not overdone and reliable. One of our new favorite restaurants!!!!
This was a great find! We were looking for something different with lighter fare and found le marchands within walking distance from our hotel. The arugula salad was a very memorable dish, as were the squash blossoms.
My sister and brother-in-law really enjoyed this place when we took them this past Sunday. Would recommend it!

We hadn't been back to Les Marchands in years, and what an elevation in the eating experience has happened in those intervening years. The setting outside is lovely on a beautiful Santa Barbara evening, but it was outshone by the food and drink. Wise and tasty selections on the wine menu enhanced our choices for dinner, which were: zucchini flowers stuffed with housemade Boursin (unbelievably delish!), an olive and cheese nibbler (the best olives ever!), and the lamb meatballs (perfectly spiced!). Please don't think the inclusion of exclamation points are the result of immature exaggeration. The food here deserves each and every one. Though I did think the meatballs were a little dense and prefer my lamb (like my hamburgers) with a higher fat count for both moisture and tenderness. But nothing could diminish the gustatory high from the sauce. Our wait person was personable and responsive as we shared our love of tapas in northern Spain. The only problem I foresee with Les Marchands is returning and not ordering exactly we had in this meal.
The food was very good and inventive, although the menu is fairly limited. Service was friendly but very slow. Biggest negative: a 4 ounce poor of Rose from a $24 (retail) bottle was $18.

We visited on Opening Night and expected it to be good, but maybe a bit chaotic. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the service and general attention to detail was outstanding.

The food was good. Server was not friendly. Very closely spaced tables. Hope your sitting next to nice people as you little choice but to interact with them.

Everything we ordered had amazing flavor combinations. Well executed dishes and the service was excellent.
We sat on the patio and the tables are very close together. So just be aware you'll hear your neighbors conversations. I didn't mind it though.

Les Marchands was fantastic! The restaurant was absolutely beautiful and the food was delicious. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and it was so delicious! I originally ordered the shakshuka but didn’t like it. They offered me something else, no questions asked, and I chose the avocado toast. It was so light, bright and beautifully presented. What a delicious and wonderful experience!

We literally could not stop eating the biscuit with homemade butter and raspberry preserves. The rest of our brunch was also very tasty (we both had egg dishes). Our server was amazing...friendly & attentive. My only very minor critique is that they need a bit more patio space, as we felt like we were seated on top of our neighbors at the next table (made meal less enjoyable having to listen to the motormouth guy next to us).
Planned a day trip to Santa Barbara and searched the internet to pick a restaurant for dinner. I read so many great reviews about the Les Marchands, and was happy to know that the it lived up to our excitement and expectations! We made reservations for 5pm dinner right before the dinner crowd rush. After a day of wine tasting in the Funk Zone, we were ready to have a good meal. But everything we ate and drank surpassed "good" and was excellent! We started off with the light and refreshing Strawberry + Arugula salad with mint Pesto and Ricotta. My husband had the Moroccan Spice Lamb Meatballs which was accompanied with thick slices of toasted bread to soak up all the juice and flavors. And I had the Skirt Steak which came with fries and a salad as well. I'm so picky about meat and steak, but it was perfectly cooked at medium-well and spiced with some kind of light Chimichurri sauce. Loved everything and will take my friends with me next time!
We were looking for someplace new on our Annual Santa Barbara weekend, and read some OT reviews of Les Marchand; then decided to give it a try... After walking through the Lark out front, we finally found this gem (didn’t know you should take the back alley way), and were very pleasantly surprised how great it was all the way around. We will definitely be back to enjoy the great food and service again; and will probably bring our dog next time!
We were greeted at the door and the host called us by name and seating us and making us feel special. The food was delicious-I look forward to a menu with a few more items, maybe a chicken or fish in appetizer size. Our brunch was delightful and I recommend it highly. We went for brunch and will be back.
We were in town for the night and chose this place for the menu and the wine.
We were not disappointed- it was brilliant. They had a Blues nite and we were seated next to the band. It was loud and conversation was difficult so we ended up just chilling out and enjoying the music - which was perfect.
The food was unreservedly given 2 thumbs up. From the opening cheese board, to the lamb meatballs and the tagliatelle to the dessert. Everything tasted vibrant and fresh and the accompanying Provence wines were really good.
We will be back Les Marchands!!
This is an excellent restaurant. The patio on a warm evening is intoxicating. The food is excellent and there were a lot of choices for vegetarians like myself. The wait staff was friendly and never let us want for everything. Might be the best bartenders in the city. My favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara.

This may be be my favorite restaurant in SB. The food is the freshest and most creative without being fussy. The vibe is local and friendly but staff is professional and knowledgeable of their great wine list. However don’t miss their craft cocktails as they are also excellent. Just love love love this place! I hesitate writing a review for fear too many people may get wind of this gem.
