A traditional brasserie, Le Politique offers a menu of classic French fare, including trout amandine, escargot, steak frites, and a raw bar. An adjoining patisserie and coffee shop features a selection of house-made pastries and perfectly pulled espresso to-go.
The food was delicious. However, my dining companion was served the wrong thing and we had a water glass that had not been properly cleaned. The service was subpar. I went here about six months ago and had a much better experience.
Food and service were terrific. The dining room (not the bar area) has zero ambiance. Too many cool places to eat in Austin to bother with a restaurant (even one with great food) that looks and feels so boring.
This visit was not as good as previous visits, though still quite good. The drinks and entrees were all tasty. The bummer was the desserts - we tried several and all were not good. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly. Ambiance is nice.
Wonderful restaurant and great food. We will be back for sure
We understand that it was not your fault but with all the scaffolding around the building, it was hard to find the restaurant and entrance, once we were inside it was a bit closed in with all the drapes pulled. I know the normal view of the 2nd street is beautiful. We will be back. I suggest you do some marking on the white walls to show your guest where to enter.
Great portion sizes, the duck and the half chicken are probably the best dishes. Strongly recommend getting the oysters and the steak tartar as appetizers.
Food was not very good for the price and service was just adequate. Nice atmosphere and the staff were personable.
Food was excellent. Portions were rather small for everything except the Royal with cheese. First burger I almost couldnt finish. Great service! Enda was attentive but not overbearing and had a great demeanor. Didn't have to wait for water refills either!
Lunch at Le Pol is always a treat. We both had the trout, which was perfectly cooked. The salads here are a cut above—most restaurants treat them as an afterthought and think nothing of sending out wilted greens to the table. Le Pol’s salads are always crisp and fresh and clearly someone in the kitchen spends time selecting the greens so you don’t end up with a piece of brown leaf on your fork as happens elsewhere. So, my butter lettuce salad, a simple thing one would think, was transcendent and speaks to a chef in full command of his line cooks and the quality of their food shows it.
Not worth the money .... at least for brunch, considering their pastries are good, Food is mediocre, bland , provable caters for a crow that had never experience the real thing
Great food and drinks. Good portion sizes on everything but the duck. Service a bit slow. Great overall experience though.
Food was amazing! Boyfriend and I shared several appt. our waitress Jessica was so nice and very quick. Pretty loud but we went during prime time on valentine’s weekend. Table next to us was super friendly and have great recommendations. Would definitely come back here again!
Don't let the temporary construction fencing around the building dissuade you from dining at Le Politique! The bar was hopping and the ambiance in the dining room, and the food were lovely.
Food, service, ambiance, was perfect. Food was outstanding.
Yummy in my tummy :333. The chicken was so ^_^ I like very much hehe
Excellent service, lovely vibes/decor, would definitely go again! The Smoked Trout app and Masala Chai Creme Brulee blew us away. Wish we got our servers name, she was lovely.
My boyfriend and I came for dinner to celebrate Valentine's day and we loved it. We are seniors at UT so we rarely go out to eat at nice, fancy restaurants but here we didn't feel terribly out of place! We felt comfortable and the food was verrrrrry delicious. Would definitely go again. I actually plan on it! I would love to come back for brunch and for their pastries!!!
Fantastic flavors. They don’t have a large menu, but everything we had was very well prepared.
Wonderful service! We were sitting close to the entrance which had a little more noise but we didn’t mind it!
Le Politique is the only French restaurant we have in downtown Austin and I'm so glad it's here. I had the duck and it was perfectly prepared and delicious. My husband loved his steak and our guest loved his fish. Service was good and we were able to have a pleasant conversation without a lot of noise.
We came for Sunday brunch for my birthday- the food was fantastic but service was a little lacking. Would have liked a better overview of the food options on the menu and better description of the bread board option than bread on a plate.
food was not as good as advertised, not worth the price. service was very slow, we had a reservation and still had to wait 10 minutes.
The food is great! But I give the whole experience a 3 because 1) I had put a note saying it was my brother’s 40th birthday and at no time was this acknowledged and 2) the service wasn’t very good (long waits to order drinks, then food; brought out soups with no spoons; had to keep reminding them to bring another beer, another glass of wine...).
Great dinner. Excellent Dover sole. Good service. So nice to have a bit of France in downtown.
It is a nice place but tables are too close. Even if you try not to listen you can still hear your neighbor...which suck. Food was good, restaurant is nice and my server was not so knowledgeable about drinks and was arrogant. Maybe he had a bad day... I will return because I liked food but I will request a table where I can talk to my companion.
Food was amazing. The escargot was garlicky and buttery. The trout amandine was superb . I will definitely be back! 5=stars.
Went for our biweekly luncheon. Everyone we dealt with from busboy to chef were delightful. The food was excellent, from appetizer to dessert. Nice wine list. Very French Bistro vibe. And there is a patisserie to take some goodies home from.
The food at Le Politique was fantastic! I will definitely be returning. My partner and I went for our anniversary dinner and had the gnocci and filet au poivre as entrees, mousse for dessert, and the bread platter for an appetizer. My only complaint was the service from our waitress. Once we were seated, it took her probably 10 minutes to visit our table despite also serving the tables on either side of ours. She walked by at least 10 times tending to them before even greeting us. The service from everyone else (host/hostess, food runners, even another server) was stellar.
Great service, food, and ambiance, as usual. Try the crème brûlée for dessert!
Bad value. Stop in for a drink at its cafe.
Had a lovely dinner at Le Politique, and for a moment was transported to a Parisian cafe. Cocktails were on point--I had a take on a Manhattan with rye and cognac. Not too sweet or boozy. Tender and buttery escargot preceded a flavorful endive salad. I had duck l'orange cooked to a perfect medium rare. Among other dishes at the table, the gnocchis was pillow soft with a lovely crispness and packed with flavor. Finally, the dessert s were all good (we tried three!) but the bombe au chocolate with dark chocolate mousse, salted caramel, spéculoos, and crème fraîche ice cream--well, shut the door. We love our French cafe in Seattle, Le Pichet, but when in Austin, I'll return to Le Politique for a bit of the Parisian life.
Went here on a first date and it was amazing. The staff was so attentive and explained the menu very well. It was a great place to go for a night out!
The food was great, however the service lagged a bit. We had to ask for a side of fries and orange juice over 3 times and ended up never receiving them. Additionally, our server disappeared for the majority of our meal. For the price your paying and restaurant location, we expected way better service than what we got.
The restaurant looks great inside, and we had a fantastic table. The service was comprehensive, but could have been a little bit quicker given how empty the dining room was. The food was plated beautifully, however it was not quite as hot as I would’ve liked it. The overall portion size was good, with the exception of the French fries, which, while fairly tasty, were a tad over priced. The cocktails were good and came out very quickly and our server kept a solid rotation on our waters and iced teas. I ordered a pastry for take-away which looked beautiful, and my girlfriend said it was delicious. Overall a solid spot for a quiet, upscale brunch. I would definitely return next time I’m in Austin for dinner and the raw bar.
I personally thought it was a chic restaurant to go to, it made you feel rich and somewhat fancy for the night. It’s a great place for date night. I will definitely come back— also it’s better to do a reservation that way you don’t have to wait for a table to open up :)
Food was good! The service was awful, we waited 20 minutes before our first drinks even arrived and our waitress came by very little. If they had been busy it would’ve been understandable but it was a very slow day.
Waitress was fantastic. Beautiful space. Dishes with eggs (quiche and omelet) were phenomenal.
Excellent service and the food was great.
Le Politique is a very good local restaurant for us. The cuisine is French inspired. The Trout Almondine is consistently excellent. It is my husband’s first choice. I opt for the Filet Mignon which is also very good.
The bread plate is usually 3 types of bread with fresh jam and butter.
The portions are a good size - perfect amount for dinner.
The service is friendly and efficient. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu options and helpful.
It is a open bright restaurant, comfortable and clean.
Hi, Hate to give any place a bad review but their bouillabaisse soup was truly bland and boring, the fish was overcooked. Same for the escargot, a dose of garlic but otherwise flavorless. Service was excellent. Wine was great. Chocolate desert bombe was delicious.
