A traditional brasserie, Le Politique offers a menu of classic French fare, including trout amandine, escargot, steak frites, and an extensive raw bar of oysters, shrimp and lobster. An adjoining patisserie and coffee shop features a selection of house-made pastries and perfectly pulled espresso to-go.
One suggestion, hostess seated us right next to another couple in a sparsely occupied restaurant. Spacing us out a bit would have been more comfortable for conversation.
We love this restaurant for the friendly waitstaff, wonderful bartenders, amazing chef, and the best steak tartare in town! They have a menu with options for every dietary restrictions. Their drinks are great! We only wish the decor was more exciting. The lighting is nice, the seats comfy, the tables are good, but the place lacks character and ambience overall.
The food for brunch was pleasant but not particularly special. When one of our guests asked to substitute a different cheese in her omelet, she was told that it could not be done. (How hard is it to substitute gruyere for boursin???!!!) Our server also told us they had gluten free bread but when another guest asked to substitute gluten free bread for her sandwich, she was told that the gluten free bread really wasn't bread but more like a puff and therefore couldn't be used for a sandwich. The service was slow and not particularly good. The manager brought our meals and was rather pompous. Given that the food and service both were just okay, I don't think we will return.
Loved the French-style restaurant for brunch. The pain au chocolat was suberb as were the crepes Suzette. Anastasia was a wonderful server, explaining the dishes well and giving us good recommendations. Only drawback is the hostess seemed reluctant to seat us where we wanted by a window when the dining room was nearly empty; also, she sat another couple right next to us when there was plenty of room to space people out a bit. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable time and will definitely go back. Great birthday treat!
Great service and nice setting sitting on the patio!
Food was just ok. Service wasnt great for us but that may have just been our table, our night.
My fish was superb but the service was incredibly slow.
Took a very long time to get drinks, over an hour for our entrees and we were rushed to get to a taping @ ACL
Sunday brunch service and atmosphere were great. Food was good to OK. I’m used to drinking Cappuccino in Italy. This Cappuccino was unpleasantly bitter. When I asked about it, the waiter did check and told me that that’s the way they serve it.
I made a reservation 2 weeks ahead. When we showed up for our 12:30 reservation. We were told that there were no tables. Clearly, annoyed and it was a special event. We ended up in the bar area, our waiter was the bartender. Given it was brunch he was very busy making drinks and we were a second thought. Our orders were wrong, but could not get his attention so we just gave up. And our food all came out at different times. Very disappointed. Will never go back and will be sure to let anyone who asks about to suggest anywhere else.
Delicious food! Service was great and the staff was very friendly!
The food was amazing! The only issue with the reservation is that they delayed our table a little bit - nothing over the top but if we need to wait then what's the point of reserving a table, right? Otherwise, everything was great :)
Lackluster service and mediocre food for a rather exorbitant price. We dined here prior to a concert on a Friday night. Our party of four was seated in a cozy corner booth at the time of our reserved arrival. Our server was young and seemed inexperienced or simply lacking in personality. We ordered the gourgeres and they were dry and lacked the richness promised by the ingredients. We were sorely disappointed and happy the server forgot we had placed two orders once seated- she only brought out one order.
The Macron margarita was tasty but the Old Fashioned left much to be desired.
We ordered salmon-promised medium and served closer to well done. Burgers were overly salted and the frites we ordered as an additional side were not cooked at proper temp and some were almost burnt, others flaccid. As a Belgian, I’m certain they didn’t do the proper double fry method.
The chicken dish was very dry and while the crispy skin was delicious, the dry meat was a disappointment. A bill of $275 for four people including tip left us leaving underwhelmed by the food and service, though the ambiance and decor are spot on. We will skip this in the future as a dinner option and stick to ATX or North for future dinner in the area.
We have had some wonderful dining experiences at Le Politique in the past, but this occasion was a disappointment. In our party of 3, all were disappointed with their entree. However, the cocktails, wine, escargot, and beef carpaccio were quite enjoyable.
Yummy food, polite attentive staff, great ambiance. Nothing more to ask for.
Manager was great! Checked on table several times, helped w water, drinks etc. Server “lost” our doggie bag. We were looking forward to eating remaining food for next day lunch. Server didn’t even offer to discount meal or provide a gift card. Service isn’t very tentative or caring to their tables
Highly recommend. Great menu and service. Thank you.
This was the best part of my evening out on the town!
We have dined at La Politique many times and have excellent service until this past Saturday. We were a party of 7 that somehow 2 diners entrees were forgotten. It took 25 minutes for their dishes to arrive after complaining to the server and floor manager and the volume of mussels was a fraction of another diners portions. The late entree was comp'd but the server and manager didn't seem very concerned.
Another concern was how dirty the restrooms were floors looked like they hadn't been washed in some time. Most likely our last trip here.
Mr. Rich, Thank you for the feedback; again we apologize for the upsetting experience you had with your family while dining with us. Thank you for praise of our Mussels given to your relative from Belgium. I apologize that the dish was ordered incorrectly and replaced halfway thru your meal. I had hoped the wine, desserts, and time spent with you and your wife had turned your experience around. Please reach out to me should you need anything else. Best Regards, Crystal C General Manager
2x in one week... terrible! Used to love this place, not now. What happened? Happy hour menu was 80% falsely advertised online. And when I ordered a lobster roll at brunch, it was at least 50% CANNED LOBSTER!
While the food was quite delicious, I was underwhelmed by the overall experience and cleanliness of Le Politique.
The food was French-ish but not all that delicious. Not bad, but we were disappointed. Food was okay at best. Ambience was rather cold, hard surfaced, and loud.
The food is wonderful and the restaurant is beautiful, but when we arrived with confirmed reservations, the hostess informed us they were overbooked and they did not have a table for us. Our only option was to sit at the bar (with one seat) or eat outside (it was 100 degrees that day). We reluctantly sat outside, ate quickly and left. This was a special brunch date planned with my daughter, so it was very disappointing. I've never been turned down with a reservation. Get it together, Le Politique!
Food took a very long time to arrive, but the food was excellent once we received it. The Ribeye was exceptional.
This was my 4th or 5th time at Le Politique. My cocktail was lovely. We ordered the bread board and the bread was warm and toasted but it was not fresh. My husband is French so he is really particular with bread and whether it is fresh or not. We both noticed it was not up to standard. I ordered the lobster roll which was all bread and little lobster. Compared to Clarks lobster roll this one was really lacking. Lobster was good but there was so little of it compared to the large sliced bread wrapped around it. It also came with a large plate of potato chips :( this seemed really American and I did not like it with my lobster roll. My husband enjoyed his croque madame and fries . Desserts were delicious and service was great but food was disappointing. I don't think I will be recommending La Politique to my friends and we are in rush to go back. This was a favorite of mine but I am not sure what went wrong.
They worked really hard to take care of us. I ordered eggs Benedict, first round was soft boiled, 2nd round the whites were still gelatinous...they brought out completely different egg dish, which was fine. Egg whites still looked under done, so just took a few bites...kinda done with eggs by then. Server was very sweet and accommodating. Manager comped my meal. They did their best. We will try again another time
Wanted this to be better than it was. The cheese plate was uninspired and paired with beets, pickled green beans and a strange "jam" but none seemed to match the cheeses. The mussels and fries were ok - not memorable. The steak was generic and the pepper sauce was spicy and encouraging before it turned our lips numb.
Service was attentive although it seemed to take some time to get food and drinks out to the table with each course. The restaurant was not busy at all yet we were given a wide round table in the middle of the dining room which was not conducive to chatting as a group (had to lean in or raise our voices - we’re not normally hard of hearing!) and we would have liked a table/booth by the wall or window as that seemed much cozier. As no one was seated near us it felt cold and sterile.
Food was really good and the staff surprised us with parties left over from the bakery that day, which was a nice touch.
I would come back for the food but only if the table choice is better; it felt more like a cafeteria with the white marble table top and so the ambiance really didn’t justify the prices.
Good service, food okay but nothing special, the biggest turnoff for us was the extreme noise , it felt more like being at a club than at a restaurant. We are in our forties and we were the oldest people in the whole restaurant. Definitely not for a date night ( we couldn’t have any kind of conversation because of the noise), it’s more of a place for young kids with money who care more about showing off than having a good restaurant experience and the restaurant focuses to please that kind of crowd.
Went for Austin restaurant weeks. Food was great, I just wish they had more options to choose from for the first two courses. Escargot was buttery and flavorful. Steak frites was very well cooked and had a nice crunch on the steak. The sauces that came with it were tasty. I enjoyed the dessert but wished for a little more crunch to give a contrasting texture to the cheese and sorbet
The food was great and my out of town guests were very pleased. I will return.
Service was amazing. Steak frites and salmon were delicious. The gazpacho was quite acidic and the vacherin dessert i would avoid. But the server brought us pastries instead! Delicious! Would recommend.
Le Politique has a great atmosphere for a relaxed night with close friends, or a nice date. The food is well-priced for the quality and location, though wine runs a bit steep! Great service & tasty cocktails.
Second time dining with Le Politique. The space is impeccable and the food follows suite. We were there for Austin Restaurant Weeks with a lovely prix fixe menu that was SO GOOD and still had the attention to detail. Also half off bottles on Monday nights?! Thank you, please! Each dish was served beautifuly with lovely sized portions. I had the steak frites and it was perfectly rare with a perfectly balanced béarnaise and a pile of fries to share (big enough to share). My friend got the gnocchi and they were the most perfect pillows. Seriously the best gnocchi I have experienced. And get the gougères, if they still have any left.
Our server was fantastic, as well. Attention paid, and quick service. And the person who brought the food did an excellent job presenting. Great team work. I look forward to go back.
p.s. The bathroom has wallpaper goals.
Went for restaurant week. Food was great! Service left a little to be desired. We sat at the table for a good 15 minutes before our server greeted us (it was not busy). We had to specifically ask to see the restaurant week menu, neither the host or our server offered it up. After we ordered, we didn’t see our server again until she brought the bill. I mean, we saw her around but she never spoke to us again. No check in to see if we needed another glass of wine (we did) or if our food came out correctly (it did). We spent a good amount of money beyond the restaurant week prix fixe so this was disappointing. Overall our service was good, but it wasn’t from our server. The manager got us our second round of wine and the man who brought our food to us was very helpful as well. I hope they get part of that tip. The food was great and the dining room is a beautiful space.
Food is consistently delicious. It’s our go-to for brunch on Sundays. (Shhhh!) Service is always excellent. Nice to be able to make a reservation on this app, worry-free.
Went in for Sunday brunch. Server wasn’t very nice to my friend and I. Took a while to get to the table and didn’t really check on us. He didn’t write down our order and rang in the wrong food item for me, a little irritating. Food was decent but I feel there are better brunch places to go to than here.
We loved our dinner here. It's very charming. Our waitress was excellent. I wish I could remember her name, (Texas State student). It took awhile to get our food, but that was no fault of hers. We all loved what we had.
Great, as always!
Overall a very nice evening. Good service and food. We would recommend the restaurant for a good French restaurant experience.
