Le Petit Paris
Le Petit Paris is a casual French bistro where comfort and conversation are key to the dining experience. Head Chef and Owner Alain Sutbon greets every guest and sets the tone for the evening over a glass of his favorite red wine. Located near Chicago's famous Miracle Mile, Le Petit Paris has become a go-to haven for tired tourists and locals after a long day of shopping.
The food at Le Petit Paris is described as approachable French cuisine. Diners can try classic dishes like a Coq a Vin Rouge, which is chicken in a red wine sauce served with bacon, carrots, mushrooms and onions. If guests want a true taste of France, they can choose with the iconic duck a l'orange, served in a grand mariner sauce. Le Petit Paris also keeps an extensive collection of French wines for guests to pair with each meal.

It is always a delight to enjoy the delicious traditional French fare. The escargot are wonderful, as is the apple tart. On my last two visits I have had the trout almondine special which was delicious. A very relaxed setting and incredible prices. My husband loves the wine selection which is extremely affordable! We love that this delicious restaurant is a quick walk from our home!
Perfect European style restaurant. Very quiet! And the food was delicious! It's the same level with restaurants in France. The only thing they can work on is interior, some of the elements are a bit out of place (ceiling). Strongly recommend!
Petite Paris is a very special experience. Don’t miss it.
A true hidden gem in the city. One of my favorite restaurants. The food is always fantastic, with top notch service in a lovely setting!
Great ambiance. Wonderful service.
Good food and drinks.
Really amazing experience. Excellent service and food in a cozy setting. I highly recommend this restaurant!
We love Le Petit Paris and we are so glad it is back open! Wonderful food and very reasonable prices. A hidden gem.
Le Petite Paris is one of my husband and I favorite restaurant! Alain is very attentive, fantastic customer service! I have been dining here for over 10 years and have never had a bad meal, food is flavorful. This is a hidden gem in Chicago!
We had a wonderful time! A sweet table next to the window with fantastic service! Our meal was amazing. Will definitely visit again!
The waiter was helpful with the French menu and the food was delicious.
Mon dieu! The food here is just fabulous and the great service matches it. Calves liver was my choice this time - rich and tender with a port wine reduction. Delicious. We’ll be back again ... and again. Be sure to order a martini - you get an extra ‘helping’ in a pretty little glass carafe.
Le Petit Paris is treasure, with great food and special ambiance!
we were visitors from PA...hoping for "typical" French food
the wait staff, food and ambiance were excellent..and the prices were very reasonable.
wish we had this restaurant in Philadelphia.
Great service! Excellent menu and food is very good.
Absolutely amazing! Chef/owner was excellent. Witty and charming. My wife ordered in French to practice what she learned so long ago in school. He was very gracious. Wife had tartare and it was her first experience with it. Delicious. I had duck and it was mouth watering.
Great service excellent food lovely staff
Very charming old school French Bistro style venue in downtown Chicago. Classic cuisine and a very proactive, personable and accommodating proprietor host who is virtually running service and the kitchen all by himself! Smaller but well appointed wine list with a respectable Scotch listing, also. Highly recommended.
Grea4 food and ambience
What a pleasant surprise. It's been there for 20 years without us knowing of it. Good French food and artfully presented martini's.
Delicious French plates.
FANTASTIC SERVICE WONDERFUL FOOD
This has been on my list for quite some time. Our dinner was perfect - just what we wanted: a quiet evening with good friends & food.
Excellent service and delicious French cuisine. Will return often.
Lovely bistro with a authentic dishes! We will return!
Fabulous -as always!! Don’t go without an understanding of a small, intimate authentic French restaurant. Just sit back and relax or just don’t go
Excellent food and service. Very french. Just the right amount of French attitude.
Very good food and great service
The traditional French fare was excellent! The restaurant was quiet which allowed conversations. The entire experience was a very good value.
They ran out of duck, which was unfortunate. My second choice was good, but it's not what I wanted. I mentioned twice that it qas my date's birthday and they forgot candles. Overall it's still a lovely place.
I wanted a cozy comfortable spot close to our hotel for dinner. Le Petit Paris was exactly that. I was slightly concerned reading some of the other reviews of slow service but our waiter was attentive and prompt. The decor is slightly tired and could use a spruce up but despite that it is comfortable and not pretentious. Our food was good not earth shattering but good basic french cuisine. My husband was thrilled that they had calve livers and loved his meal. My whitefish lightly fried in panko perhaps a butter/wine sauce would enhance the flavors better. I would definitely return with family and friends for a low key, doesn't break the bank meal.
Having dined here several times, the food has never been a disappointment!! Awesome Value +++
Great "traditional" french food at reasonable prices. Strangely "aloof" waiter/owner
As we often do, we spent a delightful and delicious evening with Alain at Le Petit Paris to celebrate the new year. This is a lovely place to have an unhurried and excellent meal. Food is spot on and drinks well crafted. Classic French bistro fare and a relaxing setting make this one of our favorite restaurants. Highly recommend.
We can’t wait to go back!! The entrance to the restaurant is a bit odd, but once you get into the place itself, you’ll feel transported to a lovely little bistro in France. It has an adorable little bar where you can grab a glass of wine while you wait for your table. Alain is authentically French and we loved his humor. Food is wonderful. We left with a list of people that we know that would love it too❤️
Exquisite food, service and ambience! You may read reviews disparaging the owner. We have found him to be a warm and attentive host. However, he is French. Let me explain...
First, understand you've been invited into this gentleman's dining room. Second, this establishment is not only a time capsule of beloved continental dishes, but of the decorum and civility that could be found and were expected in this country, even into the '80s.
Here in America, we're at a point where many people well into their maturity have seemingly abandoned any sense of propriety they may have entertained in the past and have adopted much of the current "everything is a commodity" mindset. Regarding restaurants, the only difference is the cost, type of fare and interior decoration. All restaurants are Applebee's, they just vary in cost. There should be no expectation put upon the customer, at all. Ever.
Je ne suis pas d'accord, mes amis...
If you want to walk in with no reservation and expect a table, if you want to make a reservation with Open Table an hour before the fact, If you wander in an hour before closing, If you feel that the ability to pay for your dinner entitles you to be a flat-footed, I'm-in-charge, palooka or palookette, I would be so bold as to suggest that perhaps this restaurant isn't a good fit for you.
Full disclosure: my wife and I don't mind booking Le Petit Paris a few days in advance (it's special!), we don't mind dressing for dinner, (although not required), we feel French cuisine wants to be paired with wine and we do that. We love the great food, the quiet dining room and following the lead of our gracious host.
In summary: This is Monsieur Sitbon's joint and he runs it very well. If you walk in and try to make it _your_ joint, he ain't feelin' that... ya dig?
Tiny and convivial place. Very unusual for the location. True French dining experience, slower paced, with wonderful food cooked to perfection with fine ingredients. Go with people you like to talk to and the evening will be lovely.
Truly a little gem....always a lovely experience. One of the things we love is that Le Petit Paris is not trendy, rather it is simple classic French food and conversation friendly. Vive La France!
Le Petit Paris is a PERFECT spot for a holiday dinner with friends and my dream neighborhood restaurant. Lots of Burgundy and Bordeaux on the wine list! Chef in the dining room making the rounds! A menu of CLASSICS like duck a l'orange, steak frites and frog's legs. This is the antithesis of a hipster restaurant trying too hard to be cool and not worried about service and the dining experience and HOORAY for that!
This is a hidden gem. Very authentic French cuisine & atmosphere. We felt we were back in France. Impeccable personal service. Excellent food. An interesting & reasonably priced wine list with mostly French wines. Great find & value. One of the best meals & most enjoyable evenings we’ve had in Chicago.
