Le Central is a French bistro, focusing on modern interpretations of classic dishes featuring local products from Sakonnet Lobsters, Four Town Farm (Seekonk, MA), Walker's Farm (Barrington, RI), Scott the Bassman, and Little Rhody Eggs (Foster, RI). Low lighting, checkerboard floor tiling, glass tabletops, and French nu-Jazz provide an intimate yet warm and familiar atmosphere. Chef-owner Jesse James spent his early career in Boston, working with chefs Moncef Meddeb at L'Espalier and Jasper White at Jasper's, with further experience at other landmark restaurants in New York, France, and Italy. Le Central is the third restaurant he has designed, built, and operated, after Aperto (Est 1992) and Boca Rotis (Est 1997), both in San Francisco. The large painting by Inez Storer on the south wall of the restaurant (which also serves as our logo) is of Jesse's son, Sam (the current General Manager & Beverage Director), and his childhood dog, Skye. Inez wouldn't say who the guy in the chair is.

We were a party of 7 and it was a first visit to Le Central. We were very pleased with the range and quality of offerings on the menu. Service was also excellent! We highly recommend this establishment, located conveniently in the heart of the town of Bristol!

Food was quite good. Oyster very fresh. Lamb good. Steak frites ok but could have been better seasoned. Moroccan chicken excellent. Spinach salad with goat cheese wonderful. Service excellent. Sadly the place was empty at 7pm on a Friday night. Why????

Thank you for your feedback! While Friday nights tend to be relatively busy for us, the night you came in was graduation for a number of local schools, and there was also a classic car show a few blocks away, for which the town closes off some of the main roads through the area of town we're in. Unfortunately, most years for a couple of Fridays in early June there tends to be a similar confluence of events which impact our usual clientele's want or ability to come into downtown Bristol and comfortably find parking, but, as was the case the weekend after your visit, we typically recoup those losses with an especially busy Saturday/Sunday service. On the bright side, it does allow the guests who come in on those Fridays a more expansive choice of reservation times! Regards, Sam (GM)

Always excellent in service and food, but not happy with choice of pricey mediocre French only wines. Try having some quality Italian wines of good value and pricing.

Thank you for your feedback. While we appreciate that everyone's palates are different, we stand behind our beverage program as a reflection of our tastes. As we are a French restaurant, our choice to feature French productions on our wine list is considered and deliberate; all wines are tasted by myself, the owner, and our staff before deciding to put them on the list, and I have intentionally priced a number of them which would typically be cost-prohibitive lower than industry standard because I want more people to be able to enjoy some of the current standouts in French wine. We believe beverages are a core part of any meal, so if our current selections aren't to your liking, we are more than happy to pour/serve any bottles you choose to bring from your own collection. Food good, service good, but a pet peeve of mine. We had a party of 3 and the waitress adds a 20 percent tip to the bill. A tip is discretionary and up to the customer. Honestly everything was good and i would have left 25 percent, but not after that. Quite frankly I wont go back. So if the food sucked or service was terrible what's the next step for the customer?

Hi Kevin, Glad to hear you enjoyed your Mother's Day with us! Regarding your concern: for the last year it has been our policy on *major holidays* to add a 20% service charge to all bills (which is noted both on the menus & the bill itself) to ensure our waitstaff is adequately compensated for their choice to sacrifice the holiday with their families so our guests are able to enjoy time with their own. We appreciate that for many, this measure is unnecessary, but we carefully considered certain patterns before making this decision, and it has allowed us to continue welcoming guests on these special days. Certainly, exceptions/modifications can & will be made if issues with the food/service are noted or brought to our attention; this policy never excuses a poor guest experience. - Sam (GM)

We took my mom to Le Central for Mother's Day and we were so thrilled with the experience (it was Mom's first time there). The service was great and the food was exceptional. If I had to offer any criticism, it would be the music. It was too loud and it didn't suit the overall vibe of the restaurant.

Probably the best Easter Brunch we’ve had in years! The two of us were seated right on time for our 2pm reservation at a spacious 4 top and served water quickly. Kris our server was bright and attentive throughout the dining experience! We started delicious iced tea and an order of Pâté de Champagne with pickled vegetables, cornichons, arugula, and slices of grilled country bread, followed by their velvety cauliflower soup with crispy capers! Wonderful! We both chose their unique eggs Benedict served over a nest of country ham and potato latkes! We finished our repast with coffee and a shared crepe dessert filled with lemon ricotta and berries. Outstanding! All of our food was piping hot and delivered in perfect timing from appetizer to dessert. The classic French Bistro style dining room is always warm and inviting filled with natural light, a great neighborhood view out the windows and wonderful artwork throughout! Check was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served, and we included an extra 5% to the standard 20% included in the check for exceptional service from every staff member who attended us. We may have to make this a yearly tradition!

My friend and I call Le Centrale our "happy place"- it's consistently delicious, staff are lovely, and we're always delighted by our meal and experience here. I've been coming for over 15 years and it never disappoints.

My wife and I went to here for Easter Sunday brunch/lunch. We have been here quite a few times and we were not disappointed; in fact, this is one of the best meals I have had here. My wife had the chicken BLT, which she really enjoyed. Because I was in a French themed restaurant I decided to have the Coq Au Vin. It was perfectly cooked and delicious, and the waitress made a wine pairing suggestion, which was also excellent. We shared the chocolate bread pudding for dessert. It’s made with brioche and was therefore lighter than bread pudding usually is for me, this makes it even more enjoyable. It was also delicious. They outdid themselves on this occasion. I recommend it highly.
