Another evening of JR genius. Amazing food, stunning presentation and an ultra warm and friendly staff. This is truly top notch. This time we sat at the bar, in Paris we were at a table. It was a fun experience watching the masterful Chef Christophe and his team do their magic. Cannot wait to return!
Fantastic! The server helped guide us through the menu where we could make our own tasting menu from the small portion section. Everything we ate was delicious! Very welcoming staff from the moment we walked in until leaving. We had the sommelier pair wines by the glass for each course. This place deserves three stars!
Unforgettable and truly outstanding.
Extremely creative with amazing flavors. Not cheap but worth the price.
From the food to the service, our experience at L'Atelier was incredible. The staff was so friendly and personal. We enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Champagne that the Sommelier recommended followed by a lovely Burgundy. We had the evolution menu, each course was more impressive after the other. Flavors I would not have imagined. Thank you to everyone who made our night special. We will be back very soon!
I like everything about this restaurant. The food bar seating for single diners and deuces is very welcoming. The dinner started out with an amazing amuse buche of 2 foams, a Parmesan cheese and blood orange foam , and a foie gras with creme fresche foam. Both were delicious. For the first course, I had the caviar and Alaskan King Crab appetizer which was served over a vanilla sauce with ginger, and more pieces of crabmeat mixed in the sauce. A very tasty combination of flavors. The main course was off the chart delicious. A Napoleon type dish of medium rare seared venison loin and seared foie gras served over perigourdine sauce with shaved black truffles. This was served with a side of potatoes purée. I almost had to fight the server who asked to clear my plate while I was finishing the last few drops of the sauce! For dessert I opted for the
Edleflower foam which was served over a lemon sorbet with fresh raspberry and I enjoyed watching the preparations in the kitchen from my seat at the bar.
This is a 2 Michelin star restaurant and the prices reflect that distinction. It’s still one of the best restaurants in New York. Can’t wait to return.
We had the vegetarian tasting menu and it was outstanding! Delicious food, superb service, beautiful restaurant! Excellent wine list!
Did the evolution. I would say the overall experience was great. The best was the main dish by far followed by the desserts. Couple dishes were mediocre such as the sea bass which was slightly overcooked and the lobster dish being not very tender. Ambiance was great. Would return for the a la carte experience.
It was an experience to remember. Classy yet personable service, and the multiple courses took you through a journey of flavors and foams and more. Best meal of our lives.
Beautiful experience ! One of my best!
We had the tasting menu and couldn’t be happier with all the flavors. Warm smile at the door. Server very attentive and knowledgeable!
Thank you again to the entire team. My wife and I will be back very soon!!
Inventive and flavorful. The frog leg fritters stand out in my mind, as does the pre-dessert of pineapples and lime. The only thing I didn’t like was being shown to the bar for a drink because our table wasn’t ready on time, then getting slow, rocky service (one drink 5+ minutes before the other), and then being hurried to close out and be seated before the other cocktail even arrives. If you’re going to make me wait in the bar, either serve my drinks quickly or let me at least try my drink before you rush me out. Other than that, it was exceptional.
Can't even begin to describe the wonderful time we had at L'Atelier last night. It was like being out partying with new best friends, each trying to thrill you with amazing food and wine. And the other guests were just as fun - we made new friends and swapped numbers. Three sets of new friends even split an over the top Bordeaux as the evening progressed. That kind of place and night. Something about "sitting at a bar" generates that kind of interraction. Truly deserves it's two stars, actually more based on some others with similar ratings.
Overall quite disappointing.
From start to end, our diner was pure bliss. the lovely ladies guesting us, our Maitre d' Joe, attentive to every question, the cuisinier curieux, Chef Philippe who leads one of the best kitchen brigades in the world and delivers delicious dishes, flavorful and visually creative
Thank you for the birthday treats from card to candle lit dessert. We will come back soon. Bravo a tous / Hats off to all. Daniel L (02/15/2020)
The food here was great, well-executed and occasionally surprising, but what started out as a great dinner service slowly started to drag on to the point that we had to wait almost twenty minutes for a palate cleanser that was finished in less than two minutes. I'm not sure if they were overwhelmed by a full house but the slide into inattentiveness and an unreasonable wait is not what I would expect from a place with 2 Michelin stars and such a big price tag. I don't regret coming here, I'm glad that I was able to experience their Evolution menu, but I don't expect to return for fear of having another 3+ hour dinner that felt like it was mostly waiting and not eating.
Excellent experience - from ambiance and design to service, and to food - everything is artistic and impeccable. Highly recommend!
For a 2 Michelin star restaurant, this didn't even come close. Everything was annoying about this experience. I made a reservation for Valentines Day and gave a credit card as a deposit. The next day they call and leave a message where I have to call them back to confirm. (Super annoying behavior - this is precisely why I used an app for a reservation - so I don't have to play phone tag.) Then they don't answer their phone when I call back, so now I have reservation anxiety for our big night, did they cancel because they wouldn't answer?
They didn't cancel the reservation, but they should have. We were there for 45 minutes before someone took a drink order and just over an hour before the very first piece of food entered my mouth.
I asked them to speed it up several times, but kid you not we were half way through the menu at the three hour mark. Did they expect me to spend a full 8 hour work day there?
The restaurant wasn't even that packed, and they had a TON of staff, but our waitress was rude and the service got slower. I finally had to make a scene to get them to give us our check and we stormed out half way through the meal because we felt like they were holding us hostage.
The one bright spot was the sommelier, who tried to rescue the night for us, but to no avail.
Oh, and the food? It was fine. Nothing to write home about. Definitely not at the quality their ratings would indicate.
Avoid this spot, their high prices and their entitled attitude.
Food is decent but nothing extravagant for a Michelin 2 star restaurant, a little overpriced for the food quality. Good environment and service.
Very nice food!
A great experience, to break up the routine. I would recommend to anyone looking to have an amazing dinner.
This is usually one of my favorite restaurants in the city... however they seem to have really dropped the ball on food and service during my valentines visit. The service was very cold, while still attentive I got the feeling she didn’t want to be there- and prob shouldn’t be given my experience. The food was mostly good but a spoiled brown colored bok choy in one of the dishes sent everything into a nose dive. You expect a certain level of care and quality when your spending 600+ on a tasting menu for 2. When brought to the servers attention she said we were wrong and that black rotting bok choy is normal. And walked away. Anyway I won’t be back anytime soon and hope to follow up with L’ATELIER but so far they’ve been silent this the review. I’m keeping my fingers crossed management has only dropped the ball on my own recent visit and this isn’t an indicator of the new direction L’ATELIER has taken. I’d be really bummed to lose such a great dinner spot in my neighborhood.
Our first time in this restaurant, food very exquisite, we sat by the bar, in front of the kitchen, next time we will request a table, we liked the food presentation, a mix of different flavors to enjoy a nice meal
It was a good experience overall but the 2/3 Michelin starred restaurants in New York are definitely not at the level of Europe, they lack soul/charm. The food is pretty good, the attention to detail is not bad but the human touch is not there and it’s key to understand the whole experience. It’s not about reciting a highly sophisticated dish, it’s about creating a unique interaction, it’s about anticipating needs and showing real passion for what you do. Without the human factor, the luxury surface gets devaluated. This being said, it’s worth a visit because the cuisine is terrific.
Everything was fine but the food was simply not that delicious.
Margo and the rest of the staff were absolutely perfection! Didn’t miss a step to stellar service. Food was exquisite and perfectly prepared leaving every mouth watering for more. Truly special visit. Thank you!!
Great experience, food was delicious and the service was spectacular. The staff really made our anniversary special. Thank you to everyone!
They accommodated our special request seating. Food is over-the-top inventive. Service is friendly and a no-hurry pace even though reservations are in high demand.
Still one of my favorite places to dine. The food quality, preparation, and presentation, are unmatched. Since the passing of Chef Robuchon, I am always a bit apprehensive with each visit, but any anxiety quickly passes when I am greeted by a familiar face and seated at the counter, which still looks as if it were opening day.
The service was impeccable throughout the evening from the hostess’s greeting to the final good bye from our wonderful waitress. The food was outstanding; truly a memorable celebratory meal. We especially appreciated the assistance of the sommelier in picking our delightful wine for the evening and for his surprising and very exciting invitation to meet the chef. The entire experience was amazing and we look forward to returning again soon!
It was a beautiful evening at L’ATELIER. Food was delicious. Exceptional service. Don't skip a dessert, its very pretty. Special thanks to Grigory, who was very passionate, knowledgeable.
We were worried that because they don't sit parties of two at actual tables, that our experience wouldn't have been as good at the bar but we were pleasantly surprised and the way the service was organized made our night exceptional.
Expensive but worth it! As a party of 2, we were seated at the bar with a view into the open kitchen. The ambience was dark, modern and elegant, but the counter seating created a more casual interaction with the servers and our neighbors that offset any pretension. The focus was the food which was sublime. The amuse bouche included foie gras topped with parmesean foam which was memorable and the rest of the meal was equally as wonderful. Servers were engaged both welcomed conversation and respected privacy. We wil return to share with our friends and family.
Table was ready when we arrived. Great whiskey and bourbon selection. Food quality was top notch, vegetarian menu included. Close to 3 Mich stars!
One of the best dining experience!
The level of service, atmosphere, and general experience are outstanding. In terms of dishes, I would recommend the poulpe (octopus) and the famous purée that is served with the main dishes. I found other dishes like the bass and burger to be less exceptional.
Outstanding food and service! Everyone is extremely helpful and knowledgeable with all the food choices. Would definitely come back!
It was a fantastic meal. I could not have asked for any more for a wonderful experience for my anniversary.
First time here and had a wonderful time. Every course outweighed the previous dish, service was great. Great place to spend a celebration!
From beginning to end, the experience was outstanding. It is rare to have a restaurant experience without even a remote negative circumstance. This evening was perfect in every respect. The food and food presentation was exceptional; service was efficient, polished, informative and friendly, without being pretentious; wine list was extensive, including at least a few reasonable finds and sommelier’s recommendation was spot-on. While pricey, I would not hesitate to return when a suitable occasion arises.
