There are 6 of us who, for several years, have gone to Lark Creek in July for the 1/2 price wine and wonderful food. We were amazed that the wine prices were outrageous now on the wine list. The waitress said, 'Well, it will be half price." We knew that but for a $33 bottle of Rombauer Chardonnay to be $89 on their wine list is unconscionable. We may not return.
Reserved a table for lunch to celebrate my friend's birthday, was pleasantly surprised by the personalized menu and nice booth location. The service was just right--attentive, responsive, light touch--my tea glass never got below half-empty. Very nice atmosphere and good food. Now I'm shocked to read online that the restaurant has closed today with no announcement! The place was full yesterday, a Thursday, and generally seems to be when I walk by. What's going on?
Very good service but mixed feelings on the food, some was really good, other just ok. Ambiance good too, i will return, worth another try...
We've been dining at Lark Creek for years. Excellent food and service. Reasonably priced. Public parking next door. One of our favorite go-to restaurants.
Great food, 1/2 price wine to boot!
Food was wonderful. Service was horrible. Luckily you go to a restaurant for great food and you'll have that here. Do not order your 2 year old a peanut butter and jelly sandwich though. It was the sloppiest sandwich for even an adult to try and eat with enough french fries to feed four adults.
I like this restaurant. It is easy to get to and the food is good but the servings are over-generous.
We went for lunch on a Sunday; this restaurant was not a good choice for Sunday lunch.
Menu very limited; had I know that I would have gone else where. I took out of town guests; it was very disappointing:(
Service and food was great!
Love the location, ambiance, and setting with indoor and outdoor seating. Food is always great. Usually have very good service, but on Saturday service was not great despite not looking completely full. Had entrée before my glass of wine finally arrived, and had to remind waitress twice for a beer my husband ordered which also came after entrée arrived. We would have had another round but didn't want to wait indefinitely again.
We usually love Lark Creek; however, the tamale pancake was filled with sub par chicken--dark meat, grissly, not up to the usual quality we have experienced at Lark Creek. Very disappointed.
We totally enjoyed our evening at Lark Creek in Walnut Creek, CA There were many food and wine options and we found the half priced wine an opportunity to try a wine we were not familiar with. It was a quiet Wednesday, allowing us to talk comfortably.
We will visit again soon.
"Lark Creek" (and sister restaurant "Yankee Pier" in nearby village of Lafayette) are my favorite go-to places when entertaining out-of-town guests. Such was the case again this time. Very good. Although, I must say the chicken in the curry chicken soup was so overcooked and dry as to be inedible. Never mind, I just pushed it aside and enjoyed the delicious broth. Mussels were excellent as always. My guest enjoyed her Reuben sandwich, and we both drank heartily of Jose's impeccable Bloody Marys.
We asked for a quiet area so we could talk and were accommodated well. The lunch choices were varied so everyone was pleased.
Sadly this restaurant has gone downhill and has a tired menu.
Antonio is a great food server. Consistently a very good restaurant.
Great place for all of the party to get together after not seeing them for a long time.
We have been long-time customers -- even having our business events there -- but this time, we were seated by window in sun and no air conditioning.
4 of us in for a birthday lunch. Great month to do it, it was 1/2 wines for July and we got great wine to go with all our great lunch picks.
I always enjoy the restaurant, unfortunately your list of positives don't really capture it. Location is convenient, plenty of parking. Food, service, ambience, wine selection, cocktaiols are all very good. Only negative is the lack of any vegetarian options. I told the server I was vegetarian, what were my choices, and the answer was the grilled vegetarian sandwich. The end. It's a good sandwich, but I don't want to avoid repeat visits to Lark Creek because I can only depend on having one choice.
We arrived early for our reservation, but we were seating immediately by friendly, courteous staff. We were offered drinks and the opportunity to order appetizers even before the rest of our party arrived. The service was excellent!
Our food was delicious and there was plenty of it! The farmer's market omelet has fresh spinach, yummy cheeses, and tender shrimp. Everyone in our group loved their food. We were celebrating a birthday and our waiter brought out a coconut bar cake with a candle on it for us to enjoy. She even sang along with us!
I've been to Lark Creek before, and while the service and food has always been good, they really excelled this time. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks!
Something was off that day in the kitchen. Signature French Toast dish was not executed properly--twice! Must have just been a bad day because we usually love Sunday brunch at Lark Creek .
Staff was so nice! We will go back to this restaurant.
My two guests and I had a wonderful birthday celebration. Our table was where requested, with a Happy Birthday menu waiting at the table. Our server Liam made helpful menu suggestions and provided efficient service along with other staff members. Our celebratory lunch was outstanding.
This was a mini-reunion of four HS friends from 68 years ago! I was the host. Lark Creek really came through for me. All my friends very much enjoyed the food, relaxed ambiance and good service. Well done!
Service was prompt, attentive and very helpful. The whole staff seems to very efficient. Food was fresh, (Fuji apple salad with Prawns) Healthy portions.
Lark Creek Walnut Creek seems to have potential. It has nice ambiance, the location is perfect, and the service is great to boot. But it is majorly lacking in the food department. The food is just not delicious. The food is passable, but nothing I want to spend money on. I ordered the halibut, but it was so dry, bone dry. I replaced it with the salmon and it was just okay. The dish wasn't composed well, the bottom of the plate was zucchini and onions sautéed in tomato sauce and on top was the salmon portion. That was it, and the flavors didn't go well together. Other entrees ordered in my group were the fried chicken dinner which was flavorless, and the paella which was meh, no crispy rice or anything special. We also ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was fine, best part of the meal. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant. The food isn't worth it.
The brunch menu was uninspired and the food mediocre at best. I suspect I could get the same thing at Denny's for half the price. Our server was earnest but very green. Not even a shadow of its former self, Lark Creek is now a place to miss.
Excellent comfort foot perfectly prepared with simple fresh ingredients.
Staff was attentive. Spacing of the various courses was timed perfectly.
Great night, we dined in the outside area which was quiet and had a wonderful meal.
After 30-plus visits in the last 20 years, Lark Creek finally failed to come close to expectations. To be fair there was a Walnut Creek wine tasting event that night and Lark Creek had an outside booth that was active. Inside was fairly quiet though, maybe half full. Despite this, the service was fragmented and very slow, so much so we skipped dessert which we had intentionally left room for. It was also extraordinarily hot in the restaurant. It was a hot day, but we consciously chose Lark Creek out of the many Walnut Creek choices because we believed that they would certainly have an adequate HVAC system.
Very disappointing. A decline over the years. Food was OK but not nearly as good as meals I have had there before as well as worse than the Marin Lark Creek (if they are still connected). Dishes were adequate but not special and not worth the price.
The food wasn't as good as it used to be. The New York steak was very fatty and tough. The shrimp salad didn't have very good dressing on it and was returned to the kitchen. The halibut was very small! Sorry, to give it a bad review.
Father's Day. We've been here many times and always a great experience. Not this time! Wait staff was perfunctory, food was mediocre. They had a special brunch menu for Father's Day but the food seemed slapped together. Maybe it was too busy for them to manage. I expect more from them, I was disappointed.
We have frequented Lark Creek many times over the years. It has always been well staffed and we have enjoyed our meals. Just last week, I had a lovely lunch with my mother-see my previous review.
However, this visit was disturbing. It was Father's Day. The host station was staffed by a female teenager, dressed in a shred of fabric, which I suppose she thought was appropriate for being the fist point of contact. That, and she was covered in tattoos. Not a good look. It was not appropriate, and the management should be embarrassed.
When we arrived, 5 minutes before our reservation, 12 noon, I informed her that we needed a table rather than a booth because my mother has a seated walker. She said that she could seat us, but it would be closer to our reservation time, maybe a 10-15 minutes wait...Umm, we were pretty much on the dot. I reminded her of our reservation time-she had to check the computer again. Obviously out of her league. I spotted a vacant 4 top for our party of 3. She informed me with a very matter of fact: "That section is not open"...it was surrounded by full tables. Not the right answer. I told her that I wanted to speak with the manager. She then told me again that that table was unavailable and there was "nothing she could do". Again, not the right answer. The response should have been, I will try my best to get you seated as soon as possible. This would have made me feel like a valued customer and that she was trying. Then, a tall blonde woman appeared at the host station. She asked if she could help me...I asked if she was the manager-nope! Turns out she was just the loud mouthed bartender-again, totally inappropriate. Finally, I meet the manager. He is pleasant; however, completely in the weeds. In the end we get the 4 top because of some lame explanation that they just had a cancellation. This restaurant needs a tune-up. P.S. The teenaged hostess is not qualified, looks or otherwise, for her current position-
Loved those tiny cubes of joy left on the table with the check, YUMMY!
