   Lantern meets all expectations, but the back terrace was a bit noisy. Some clot hangings or wall hangings might make it less defining.

   Our server was *** 
1. We requested a few whiskey sours, *** told us that he and other coworkers had made 140 whiskey sours for a party earlier and he couldn’t justify cracking an egg for another whiskey sour. Lantern still had eggs. This is a premium restaurant, everyone else justifies making one, how can Lantern not? 
2. We ordered two apps- Pork and Chive Dumplings and Japanese Crab Cakes. Our apps got delivered by a food runner: Dumplings and Shrimp. Partially wrong, right? Tasting the dumplings, it was clear they were not pork. The dumplings were instead their other dumplings: Pea Shoot and Scallion. When *** came by, I asked him if these were the Pork dumplings we ordered and his response was: “No, we were all out of the Pork dumplings so I ordered these so you could have some food on the table.” THE IGNORANCE OF ORDERING SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITHOUT ASKING US OR CHECKING FOR FOOD ALLERGIES? This is unacceptable. 
3. 10 mins later *** returns for the main entree orders. My girlfriend ordered the Wok Seared Rice Noodle dish, my friend ordered the Seared Red Poll Beef at medium temp and I also ordered the Beef at medium temp. The entrees came out by a food runner & it was only 2 dishes: 1 Beef dish and 1 Noodle dish. *** came over shortly & when I brought up only receiving 2 entrees, he specified that there must have been confusion as he thought it was only 2 dishes total. This was his mistake as he had already demonstrated numerous times before, but instead of owning it & apologizing for his mishap, he blamed it on us as if we were the ones confusing him. As my girlfriend and friend finished their food, my food arrived. 
I went to this restaurant 10 per yr pre-COVID, but if this is the new Lantern, I will not be back and will tell everyone else likewise. We didn’t have a manager come and check on us; no apologies given, & no items were complimentary. *Lantern reached out to make things right- they listened, apologized, & were quick to respond to my concerns.

   Great twist on main stream dishes. Steak tartar is very unique, dumplings delicious! Service was great. Nice selection of wine!

   An ABSOLUTELY excellent experience. We sat outside in their courtyard area. The food was so delicious. The Shrimp Soup was to die for! The service was first rate, as always, and the entire experience was delightful. Lantern never disappoints!

   The meal and service were great. The main dining room was closed for a private event which left us with the street, a back garden with very uncomfortable wooden stools and a small interior "bar" which was actually quite nice. It was very dark and a bit noisy but definitely a worthy spot for this excellent meal. Have the steak it was amazing.

    The oysters appetizer (both broiled and raw) were delicious. The ribeye tasted good, but was a little dry, although medium rare. Herb salad that came with the ribeye was fabulous. Warm chocolate cake dessert was something I could have made at home, but my companions had the banana ice cream dessert, which looked good. Cocktails were good and so was the oloroso sherry.

    We usually have a great dining experience at Lantern but last night was very off. Our party of 4 waited an hour for our entrees and when they arrived the two steak dishes were so oversalted they were inedible. I like salt but this was way over the top. Our server offered to have the kitchen cook us different steaks but given the first ones took an hour, we decided to decline. They comped us for one meal but we were very disappointed because we were really looking forward to a nice dinner. I think it must have been an bad night in the kitchen becuase their food is usually so good. The service was very good, however and we will try the restaurant again in the future.

    We loved The Lantern, not only was the good exquisitely prepared and the service friendly and attentive, we are in a magical, beautifully lit space on the patio. We traveled 1,000 miles and it was worth it.

    Great ambience in the courtyard and excellent food. The service however was poor. We waited at least 15 before ordering and it took another 30 minutes to get our drinks. Dinner took over an hour before it reached our table. The waiter messed up our dessert order and forgot our coffee. He may have been new and/or they were understaffed. Overall, the poor service really detracted from great food and atmosphere.

    Had not been to Lantern since before the pandemic, and I should have looked on line at their menu because it is not the same restaurant. Instead of an Asian influenced menu it was fish and steak (though there were three "favorites" from the old menu, none of which sounded like an entree). The food was tasty, though not special, and not at all what I was expecting and looking forward to. Maybe it will revert to the old menu, but I won't travel the half hour both ways again for a good salad, okay fish, and an okay dessert (I chose the pre fixe option). And as usual, it was expensive.

    OUTSTANDING! We appreciated the requirement of showing our Covid vaccination cards as we entered. I had the BEST Dirty Vodka Martini I have had in years! I ordered The Rascal (prixe fixe) three course meal. The wedge salad was wonderful - even my partner, who does not usually appreciate anything g green - loved the wedge. My steak was very tasty and my partner’s dumplings were excellent. I got the roasted banana ice cream sundae for dessert and I can’t remember when I have had anything so delicious! GREAT EXPERIENCE!

    Lantern has a charming outdoor space, conducive to large groups, and a smaller inside space. We were a party of three, so we sat inside. We had individual appetizers -- two porcini & truffles soups and one wedge salad -- then shared three entrees: salt & pepper shrimp, pea shoot & scallions dumplings, and pork & chives dumplings. All food was amazing. (Seriously! ALL of it!) We finished off by splitting a Roasted Banana Ice Cream Sundae, garnished with peanut brittle. Great finish to a great meal, and we didn't have to be rolled out of there. :) We'll return for sure.

    Lantern has been the premier Asian influenced restaurant in the area. For some reason it has decided to suddenly operate in the premium steak joint space. There are many high end steak places in the area, but not many Asian of the quality of Lantern. I don't understand why the change. However, as expected the items on the new menu were excellent, as is the waitstaff. If they want to stay with the steak joint theme, they will have to expand the menu to include more steak options.

    It was a true treat to have dinner at Lantern last night. We ate indoors, for the first time in many months and felt completely comfortable know that all our fellow diners were fully vaccinated. Service was a bit hectic as staff worked in a small space to provide helpful, efficient service. Dinner was a special 'pop-up' menu, with some usual Lantern offerings as well. All in all a wonderful evening out. We will return soon and often.

    Lantern was entirely disappointing. Overpriced for mediocre food that was misfired twice. Confused and slow service. Open table booking errors abounded. It just isn’t what it used to be. I would not go back.

    Always an amazing meal including this recent visit with a special pop-up "Steakhouse" menu (I don't eat meat so i got the trout which was incredible). Great drinks, great food, great dessert. Don't miss.

    Great ambiance and some of the food was good but wasn’t impressed at all with the seafood hot pot especially for the price. Flounder carpaccio was great-as well as the pea shoot dumplings. Very cost in the bay and the outside looks great too! Will def go back for drinks and dumplings

    We celebrated a soon to be PhD Graduate and had the best time celebrating at Lantern. We were seated in their bar and it is always spot on. Our waiter was attentive and laughed with us. The food was outstanding. We all ordered steak with the crunchy spinach! Great selection of cocktails and wine. We love Lantern! Thank you for a special evening.

    Excellent food, great service, and the intimate bar area where we ate had the feel of a Village bistro in NYC. Praise and respect to Lantern for its proof of vaccination requirement to enter. Happy to support them for all these reasons.

    Lantern is our favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill, as it has been for years. The pork dumplings were excellent as always, as was the seafood hot pot. The baked oysters were fabulous! Finished with coconut panna cotta and ice cider. Superb! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We couldn’t ask for more.

    We went to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. The food, drinks, and service were all perfect. Thank you, Lantern, for always being a wonderful experience. I was a little confused at first on how to get in(you have to go to the ally now and come in from the side), but once I found the new entrance, it was a fantastic experience as always.
