For small parties, it's lovely if you can get a window view. The food is fairly good, but a bit hit and miss depending on what you order. The service too is hit or miss. What table you get can entirely make the difference between a great experience and an ok one.
We ordered Beet salad, Caesar salad, Mussels, kids pasta and Lamb chops. We did not get disappointed, we enjoyed the food and services provided. Love the ambiance, very comfortable.
Amazing food in both terms of quality and selection at a very reasonable price. Ambience is also great. Will definitely go back!
Table wasn’t ready when I got there for my reservation. The food took a long time to come out and it was very underwhelming. The scene of the restaurant is nice, but that’s most places at The Wharf. If you’re looking for a place that is quiet and romantic, this isn’t really the place. It’s good for a night out with colleagues or other people you secretly hate.
Table available 40 minutes past reservation time. Lamb chops the fattiest meat ever encountered - no meat at all. Food terrible.
Great service and food.
First time to La Vie and loved it. Food was terrific, uniquely prepared. Beautiful decor. Ambience and view are amazing. Service was excellent, will definitely be back.
Fantastic brunch!! The view is only surpassed by the food. Great service as well.
Chef Juan, Nicholas and entire team helped us have a most memorable meal and dining experience.
Hi Glenn, We are so happy to hear Chef Juan & Nicholas made your night unforgettable. Come back soon!
Another great experience at La Vie. Amazing service, great food, every part “wowed” my family. Awesome views of DC/Virginia. Breathtakingly expensive.
Truly exception dining experience from drinks at the bar to dinner at a table overlooking the Wharf.
Lovely restaurant with good food and a fantastic view. We started with cocktails - the Célange of the Lambs and the La Vie en Rose - both were unique and delicious. The Greek Mussel Pot was a great starter, which was recommended by our server. Our main courses - the Truffle Gnocchi and the roast chicken with quinoa and harissa (I don't recall the exact name of the dish) were also very good. Normally, I never order chicken when dining out, but this particular dish sounded interesting and it lived up to expectations. Our server was excellent, providing some good suggestions for ordering and wine pairings.
We had a phenomenal experience. Not only were the drinks fabulous, but all of our entrees were great as well. We had the burger, shrimp risotto, salmon and Greek salad. Everything was flavorful and tasty. This was my second visit, but it will not be my last visit.
Good place for a date
The food and the atmosphere was amazing. I loved it so much that I will be renting one of the rooms to have my baby shower. Our server wasn’t great but I won’t hold that against the restaurant. The prices are clearly stated on the menu, so when a server asks me am I sure about an option because if the price, I feel discriminated against. Again, I’m going to hold that against her and not the restaurant. It was a birthday celebration so I didn’t even bother complaining. My fiend had an amazing evening ana can’t stop thanking me for taking her there.
Let me start saying how beautiful this place is. I have not seen a restaurant this beautiful and the views are to die for. We have been there few times and this place has not disappoint us. The food is great and service is excellent. This place is becoming our go to spot.
I have been wanting to try La Vie for a while now and finally got the chance. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful!! Great ambiance and stunningly designed. Our service was amazing from the start. The server was very helpful and answered all of our questions with ease. We started with the steak tartare and lamb pie. I do not eat much lamb, but I still enjoyed the lamb pie a lot. The steak tartare was a good choice as well. For our main course, I got the fennel sausage ragu, and my friend got the shrimp risotto. Both wonderful choices. We finished off with a tiramisu, which you cannot go wrong with. I am a fan of anything gin, so we both got the imperial iced tea, which was so refreshing and had a great flavor to it. It was a little chilly out but we really wanted to check out the balcony. The view was so pretty! Overall, would definitely come back, and recommend to anyone.
This is a great option for those looking to dine prior to attending shows at The Anthem. The food was wonderful and location is awesome. I will say that service took awhile to bring the check at the end of the experience - felt like we had to flag someone down. But, that's a small thing when they nailed the rest of the evening.
Meal before Anthem concert: Great views at sunset. Amazing attention to detail by staff. Andres was great! Food was delicious. One of the best octopus appetizers I have ever had, incredibly tender. Best move of the night was sharing entrees. Mushroom gnocchi was phenomenal. The branzino was excellent, very crispy skin. The special dessert with the chocolate dome melted with hot rum table side was as good as it looked.
I came for a birthday with a friend. We were sat at a table with little lighting the hostess acknowledged it and said she would get us a candle and never did. My friend never received his birthday cake I reminded them on the way out they asked us to wait because they forgot and kept us waiting for 30mins. I’m completely embarrassed as this was a big birthday for a very big client and the small details that were missed by La Vie ruined the experience.
Great service and half price wine night!
I ended up going to La Vie per a college’s recommendation, and it didn’t disappoint! First let me say how beautiful the space is. You have an amazing view over the river that makes it a perfect place to take someone for a romantic date. I had the whole Bronzino and it was absolutely delicious. Service was great and dessert was even better! I will definitely be coming back again.
Let me start by saying this venue was beyond my expectations. I knew I was walking into a nice restaurant but Jesus. Props to whoever the interior designer is.
Great spot to either take your significant other to.
Food: We started off with Burrata and the Grilled Octopus. The grilled octopus was cooked perfectly. It was really soft and tender to where I could enjoy the flavor. Most places overcook it and it ends up being too chewy but La Vie's chefs did a great job. Both apps were really good. For dinner, I ordered the Duck Confit and my GF got Grilled Half Chicken. I didnt' get to try her entree since I was too busy with mine.
Drinks: I didn't get to try any of the drinks but they have a very large wine selection and interest cocktail program.
Inside: Decor is beyond beautiful, especially the room with the chandelier. They also have a really nice outdoor terrace with a nice view to the wharf.
Service: Service was really attentive and really knowledgeable. Hiwot was the one that took care of us throughout the evening but their staff is also moving and looking to help. We were greeted by one of the managers named Aamir. He asked about how our evening was going and also checked to see what we thought about our food. He was evening kind enough to send us dessert on him which we weren't even expecting. Thank you!
Overall, I would recommend this a friend because of the great experience we had here. We will be back to try to out some other dishes.
We made a reservation through open table for a last minute dinner. La vie has plenty of room big in space. We had a really good time and enjoyed their take on the Mediterranean cuisine. I would like to come back again and enjoy their rooftop bar especially in the summer.
It was my daughters 4th birthday
I took my husband for brunch and it was great! We both enjoyed the food, great service, atmosphere and ambiance! I’ve been telling everyone to go to La Vie for a fabulous experience.
The restaurant was nice
The view was nice
The foods hmm was ok
The drinks hmm was ok
Had an birthday but they didn’t bring an cake or anything out which was an disappointed .
The service was nice
Great place to people watch! I would go somewhere else at the warf for food, drinks, and service!
We had a reservation for 6:00 pm on a Saturday in preparation for an 8:00 pm concert. As a result of overcrowding, there was no table available. We were invited to have a drink at the bar and we were each given a complimentary drink coupon. After 20 minutes, we still had not been seated. We were given an apology and another free drink coupon each. We were seated just after 6:30. Our waitress was excellent and the food was outstanding. It was the best calamari I have ever had in this country. The manager then came by and took another $28 off of our bill for us being inconvenienced. That was over $100 comped from our bill between the drink coupons and the manager. Great customer service and outstanding food. Great place for a special occasion.
We had 6PM reservations. When we were running behind as traffic was horrendous, I called to let them know and was told that we had a 15 minute grace period. We were at the restaurant by 6:10 and waited until 6:30 when we were told, "we are busy" and sent to the bar. We decided to eat at the bar when we still hadn't been seated at a table by 6:45. We were then called at 6:55 as our table was ready. We declined and ate at the bar. 55 minutes past our reservation time is absolutely unacceptable!
Wonderful meal is a beautiful setting.
Really fun for brunch date!
Service super slow. Took an hour to get our dinner. When it arrived my steak was cold, and my wife’s gnocchi had way too much salt. Management credited us $13 for the wait, but the dimmer still cost > $100 (we just drank sparkling water).
Loves the place and service. Hard to hear the person next to me due to noise level. Food was delicious and I will go back. Just will try to be seated outside of the bar area.
Overall good experience. Great view of the Potomac River!
The parking garage entrance was hard to find, and it was hard to find the elevator out of the garage closest to the restaurant.
The bar didn’t know what onions to serve with the cocktail I ordered (...um, cocktail onions?), but the evening got better from there.
The food was competently prepared, the waiter was attentive, and my out-of-town guests were suitably impressed.
Perfect minus the date
Everything about this experience was fabulous. From the food to the service to the atmosphere it was one of the best meals I’ve had. Thank you for everything !!!!!!!!!!
Delicious food, beautiful presentation
We were looking for a special more romantic evening out as we were celebrating our anniversary. We were fortunate to be seated right by the window overlooking the wharf, but were at the end near the bar and the door leading to the outside bar area. It was a very cold night and every time people opened the door to leave and get outdoor pictures or to escape the inside noise and look out at the water etc. we received a blast of cold/chilling air. The wait staff was very friendly BUT after we ordered drinks, dinner and received our cocktails we were rarely checked on from that point on. No one asked if we needed water refills nor asked if we needed anything else- like more cocktails or how our food was or even if we wanted dessert. We asked a waiter ourselves, to see a dessert menu - then we waited too long before our waiter came to take a dessert order. We felt forgotten most of the evening, unfortunately. We were annoyed enough not to order dessert that evening, which we had looked forward to having, prior. Though the view of the wharf was a romantic setting, having a TV on over the bar located at our back detracted from that. And of course being uncomfortable each time patrons exited to the outside bar on that chilly night, did not help either. We would have asked to be put at another table, but there were no others open next to the windows that evening. That being said - as I waited by the elevator, the host/hostess asked about our time with them and upon hearing our disappointment offered to treat us to a meal on another night. Because we were visiting from out of state, we were unable to take him up on the offer. We may have been more satisfied on our second date there if we had.
