La Tasca has become one of my top choices to dine at. Food is absolutely delicious and the service and atmosphere is great!
Service was not the usual gold standard and our tapas arrived before our drinks.
Our reservation for 4 was at 5 p.m. As we had tickets to the Caps game (we were all in our Caps attire so this was obvious), we wanted to get in early and have plenty of time for dinner.
We were in a section of about 12 tables with one server, although when we arrived not many were taken. Still it took our server about 10 mins or more to take our drink order and much longer to take our food order.
We elected to take advantage of a special ($39/person for unlimited servings). We were told we could 2 each items at a time. When those were gone, we could order 8 more.
We were finished with the first round, but had to wait more than 20 mins for our server to return to get our order for the second round. I took notice that he not only had all of the tables in our section to deal with, but also some in the bar.
We finally got most of our second round, but nobody stopped to see if it was correct. (It was not, our steak never arrived.). When our server finally came back, we had to leave to get to the game. The Nationals were going to be there and it was time to go. I let him know about the steak and he offered to place the order again, but as I said—we had to go. We hurried out to the game, not taking time to speak with a manager as we didn’t want to be any later. But for our all-the-tapas-you-want, we got less than 2 orders.
I called the next day and asked for a manager and was told he would arrive at 3. I called at 3 and was told he had just stepped out. The host who answered got my information and assured me that the manager would call back. I made it clear, my perception as to the cause of the problem was the lack of staffing. The manager never called back, so apparently we won’t be compensated and the problem won’t be corrected.
Great place for large groups-although VERY noisy. Tapas are great for groups because everyone can try a bunch of different dishes. Recommend especially the crispy eggplant. Food came out fairly quickly. Drink order taken fairly quickly as well. Sangria just OK. Service was OK-we didn’t see our server for long stretches, but it was super busy due to the National parade. But overall, food was tasty, everyone enjoyed themselves. Definitely recommend.
Reliable place to have a drink and food. The great thing is that you can pace yourself and there's less danger of ordering more than you can eat. I can recommend starting off with 2 small dishes per person. You can always order more if you decide that you will easily finish the food. Even though they're small dishes, you can still share them. Quite delicious, although the Pimientas de Padron were not like the ones I used to devour in Spain. Service was very friendly and quick.
Very much enjoyed our dinner prior to a Caps game. Food was delivered quickly and our server was friendly and energetic, providing exceptional service. Tuna and scallops were definitely our favorites. We'll be back for sure.
We have been to La Tasca twice for the past 2 Saturdays before events at the Capital One Arena. La Tasca's unfussy but super satisfying small plates fulfill every customer's appetites. It's hard to pick favorites on the menu, but our crowd, who has now enjoyed La Tasca 5+ times, seems to always return to the Pan Casero, Patatas Bravas, Tuna, Garlic Shrimp and Spinach. The desert sampler is a good choice when you can't decide, the mango tres leches and chocolate cake will have your spoons digging for the last morsels, and who doesn't like churros?? Easy to recommend. Busy, and louder, when events are at the Capital One Arena, so get a reservation. Casual.
Slow service with average Tapas dishes.
Food was great and service was excellent. We got the paella Valencia and substituted the duck for more chicken. All the food came out fast and my son loved his Mac & cheese meal. We ordered pulpo, manchego frite, bacon wrapped dates & lamb meatballs. Everything was tasty!
Clean. Not busy, which was strange since it was Brunch time.
We love the food at LaTasca. It never disappoints. The service is slow because they never seem to have enough servers. This time at lunch there was only on e server. She did a great job managing the entire restaurant.
My experience with La Tasca was not good from the start and did not get any better.
For some reason, my significant other really wanted to dine at La Tasca and I agreed to accompany him. I viewed the menu beforehand and called the restaurant for information but the person I spoke with was impatient and rushing me off the phone. I sent an email with questions and no one responded. At that point, I did not want to give La Tasca any more of my time but again, my S.O. wanted to dine there.
Upon our arrival, I spoke with a manager about my experience and he just said they do not check email. Why is an email address given for people to contact the restaurant?
We placed our orders for Empanadas, Paella Marinera, Calamares Fritos with a red sauce, and Salmon with swiss chard. The Calamares Fritos were good but lacked seasoning, if not for the red sauce to dip they would have been too bland to eat. The empanada stuffing is pre-made with cheese and onions so I did not partake because I dislike both ingredients. My S.O. said the empanadas lacked seasoning but he muddled through. For the paella, I requested to substitute the squid and clams for more monkfish and mussels; it did not look like they accommodated my request. Also, the paella looked really creamy as opposed to a dish with a tomato base. It lacked seasoning and most of the thin layer of rice I received was burnt to the bottom and sides of the cast iron skillet it was served in. Instead of sending it back, I muddled through. However, the salmon and swiss chard that my S.O. had was really good. The salmon was well seasoned and the grilled flavor was really noticeable. The swiss chard was good as well.
At our request, we were able to be seated at a table for four instead of the compact table for two and were located by the window for a great flow of natural light. Our server was decent.
Overall, my S.O. said he never wanted to return and I agree with him 100%.
Super conveniently located to activities in Chinatown, casual unpretentious spanish tapas. Sangria isnt too sweet, and my favorite is that you can get individual portions of paella (my husband loves meat but I prefer seafood).
Not many places better for large groups either.
We were taken care of by Melvis and it was truly a great experience! He kept us fed and after our first course be continued to order for us. We'll definitely be returning to visit.
We went for restaurant week after having going to the location in Rockville multiple times. This is a tapas restaurant and the advertised restaurant week special was all you can eat tapas. It took an hour to receive our first four as we were limited to tapas. It then took another 30 minutes before the waiter came to take an order. Worst service ever at a tapas restaurant. The waiter then proceeded to tell us we ordered one item when they sent out a wrong item. What waiter does that? He wrote it down wrong, own up to it. Won’t be going back here again.
Thank you for a great meal. Every dish we ordered was excellent from the calimari to the lam meatballs. Delicious. Great service too. Highly recommend.
Very authentic Spanish tapas! We enjoyed every bite.
I made 6:15 reservations but arrived early and sat at the bar. The place smelled like fish. The bartender was attentive without hovering. My guest arrived at 6 so we asked to be seated I am otherwise empty dining room. The hostess scorned a bit at the early arrival had a bit of an attitude. We ultimately got great window seats. The waiter was very good, gave us enough time to order, & found a place to charge my phone. I’m vegan so I order only veggie dishes but found they came covered in sauce or cheese. The food was greasy and fried. I won’t return.
They had good deals on happy happy hour.
Fantastic desk unlimited tapas - and service was the best!!!
Food quality and presentation was excellent! Very creative and good variety of tapas plates. My wife was skeptical of a tapas restaurant, but she was definitely won over. Service was amazing! Our waiter was very courteous and always smiling, even though it was quite busy. Food came fast and hot. Although we don’t get down to dc much, we would recommend it to everyone
Great food, great service, good value!
The food was amazing! The server was friendly and attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was wonderful. I have already recommended to several friends.
Terrible experience along with no response from management = stay away and visit places that care!
Went before a concert at Cap One, talked into Unlimited Tapas by server. Appeared to be a good deal, but even though we got to restaurant over 1.5 hours before concert---we only were able to try/taste/sample/perhaps enjoy 10-12 tapas.
Server sucked- took him 15 minutes to deliver a beer and Sangria that was sitting at end of bar. First set of tapas didn't come out for 20+ minutes. He said he can only order 4 at a time, but would immediately put in next set as soon as he could. After 35 minutes only 4 tapas on table...no more in sight.
Impossible to get anyones attention- we wanted more drinks.
Finally went to host stand and asked if we could get more... 10-15 minutes later a few more appeared- plus our drinks.
Asked server for some more- but said "I can't if there are Tapa's on the table" Meanwhile, nobody was clearing plates, these were done.
Set expectations properly----Don't have a million stupid rules for a promotion that don't allow you to enjoy it. Yes, server sucked...but policy's sucked more.
Even worse, an email sent to contact person on website not responded to. 48+ hours later.
It's a tapas place so come prepared for super small portions, which are outrageously over-priced. It was beyond loud, had to yell to be heard by the person sitting next to me. The service was excruciatingly slow. The churrasco was nothing to write home about. Only good things were the lentil soup, shrimp avocado salad, bistec, and croquetas - the rest was okay, but not worth the price. They're lucky the restaurant sits right by Capital One, honestly that would be my only reason for coming back.
This was second visit. The last was in 2016. Both times were wonderful. The food is delicious, presented nicely and the portions are perfect. My favorite item is the tortilla de patatas and my favorite sangria is the traditional. I will be back the next time I come to DC.
Great food and great place to go to before a concert
Food was amazing. Mango sangria was awesome. Service was great.
They could t find out Open Table reservation(?) but they seated us immediately. We were late to a mix up in directions. Popular traditional selections like empanadas, dates/bacon, asparagus were delicious. Rushing to get to a concert at Cap Center so quick dinner. Service understood and was excellent. We will return!
For remains at high quality, drinks very good, service pretty good for a packed house. But the DIN was close to unbearable. Literally had to shout to have companion hear me.
Awful! It took 1.5 hours to get three tapas, we were late for a show at Capital One Arena, and the food was cold and dry. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Showed up and they didn’t have us down for a reservation and when I showed them my reservation confirmation on my phone the hostess found us a table. Once we were sitting took our waitress 15-20 minutes to be greeted and we ended up ordering everything bar drinks to our food. Took forever to get our drinks 20 minutes and awhile longer for our food. It was good besides all the waiting around and no reservation when we showed up.
The food was great, however it seemed like they only had one server assigned to basically the entire floor; it was nearly impossible to get her attention because she was trying to keep up with too many tables.
If you go on a Saturday night be prepared for a very loud environment which made dinner conversation at our table almost impossible
The variety of sangria and tapas were fabulous. Will definitely visit again.
Authentic, delicious fresh food, great value. Ambiance is also authentic.
Service is nice, yet has room for improvement. They may need to be more attentive on what patrons may need. Just by keeping an eye on their tables, slowing down a bit and making eye contact with their patrons, they could ID if clients need anything.
Went there for my graduation dinner! Great time, I had a large party and the accommodated so well!
Menu was very limited. We found the value for the amount of food was not great. The restaurant is very noisy. We probably will not be back.
Enjoyable evening on all counts!
I came to your penn quarter location tonight and was extremely disappointed. I’ve been to this restaurant at least a dozen times and after tonight it’s been made clear that your place is going down hill. First issue: you are suddenly charging people for water. That’s so incredibly cheap. The water tasted like it was tap water. Why would you charge for that? The fried calamari was cold. Cold seafood makes me question if it was cooked all the way. That’s disgusting and dangerous. The wait staff sucked. I was still drinking my sangria and water and the waiter tried to take it away. Also, one person in our party got up to go to the washroom and the waiter used the sangria pitcher to fill up every glass but skipped the girl who had gone to the bathroom. That’s rude. There are plenty of great sangria/tapas places in the city that are way better than this restaurant. I’m not sure why you think the way your restaurant is run is acceptable if you want to stay in business. I will never be returning here and will never recommend your restaurant ever again. It’ll be interesting to see how much longer your penn quarter location continues to exist.
