Located on the 5th floor of the Austin Proper Hotel, La Piscina Ceviches & Fajitas is a convivial poolside restaurant and bar serving Texas-inspired Mexican cuisine. The vibrant, open space overlooks the downtown Austin bustle as groups convene over family-style platters, ceviches and table-top sizzling fajitas, with fresh seafood grilled over a wood fire and house-made tortillas from an open comal. I’ve been coming to this location for close to a year now and have been through several seasonal menus and different servers. I’m not sure if it was because it was a Wednesday, but it felt like the restaurant was trying to close early. We were being rushed out by 9:20 or 9:30 even though the posted closing time is 10. My chips were stale at first, and our server only checked on us twice, once after the drinks arrived and once when the food came out. I had ordered several drinks and a large fajitas platter, so it was disappointing to receive that little attention. Maybe it was because it was midweek, a change in management, or the fact that I present as younger, but it was frustrating after making this a go-to date spot for me and my partner, especially at a place where the prices usually match the quality.

We went during brunch and thought the brunch fajitas were fantastic and perfect to share. The espresso drinks were also very smooth and delicious. I highly recommend going for both dinner and brunch sometime! You won't regret the fajitas.
