The mussels are where it's at at this place, without a doubt! Anything with a sauce was great and had really interesting complex flavor profiles. That summer squash and crab salad - wow! The dishes without sauce were good, but not amazing like the ones with sauce. They could use a little bit better service - we waited a long time to get a drink refill. They could also use some help with the decor; not sure what all the noirish movie posters are about, and a bunch of decor looks like they ran out of energy to put thought into it, so it's a hodge podge of items from a thrift store or someone's basement that have nothing to do with the theme of the restaurant.
Great wine, beer and spirit selection (who else offers traditional absinthe service with 4 to choose from?)
The menu is short, but delicious and very well executed. Fantastic and unique flavor combinations. We had the bread, oysters, the squash and crab, the halibut, the basil spaetzle, and a side of lingerie beans, as well as the lime tart. Every single dish was spot on. Cannot wait to turn some friends on to this gem. Thanks for the great experience!!!
We enjoyed Sunday brunch here yesterday. Food was great. Very creative and tasty. I think we got there at the beginning of a rush so our service was slow. Our server was wonderful but they clearly were understaffed to handle the rush. We didn’t get a drink until after we had been there 30 minutes. And after that we didn’t expect our food to come out any quicker which it didn’t. Thankfully our server handled it with grace and patience and we ended up having a good experience in the end.
LaMoule is a fun spot. Love the whimsical decor. Service is very good. The mussels are lovely - fresh and sweet. We opted for the classic meunière style. Herbaceous, garlicky. Lots of broth, so you will undoubtably need more bread. Salads and sides are interesting and tasty. Some mains sounded fabulous but we were there for the mussels. Next time we will branch out. They have a nice Belgian beer and wine by the glass selection. Cocktails are solid. A nice place for a date!
We had a great experience! Food was wonderful, we had the mussels, steak frites, corn and butter lettuce salad. Drinks were average, service was very good. We will be back!
Two people in our group had lived in Belgium—one person for two years, the other for four. That’s a pretty high bar when it comes to ordering mussels in the US, but we all did, and everyone thought they were fantastic—as good as you can find anywhere. The only negative to the evening, and it was slight, was the “energetic” noise level. It was sometimes hard to hear each other across the table.
Wonderful food and great service. The restaurant was hot though. They could use an A/C on these hot summer days.
We enjoyed a very nice Sunday brunch. The food was flavorful and quite inventive.
La Moule’s happy hour deals are amazing. The liege waffle for desert is the best waffle I have had outside of Belgium.
Food was delicious, both the mussels and Steak & Frites
The food and service was great! We're planning on eating here again!
Whenever we are in Portland, we eat here and love everything about it. We like it that we can sit outside and enjoy our meal with our pup too.
We had an phenomenal time catching up and the server was amazing! The wine she recommended is now one of my favorites.
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland! I love taking people here for their first of many visits. The rotating seasonal vegetables, the mussels, the draft & cocktail lists - all big wins.
Best brunch (and service) in town! Can’t recommend it highly enough. The quiche was outstanding, as was breakfast biscuit sandwich. And the beignets were the best I’ve had outside of New Orleans.
Best Mussels in town. Cooked to perfection every time. So glad they are now serving warm bread w/them. That was only complaint the last time I was there.
This is a charming cozy restaurant in an older section of town that seems to be in a restaurant boom now. Once seated at our table the waiter came promptly. However, he gave off a vibe of being imposed upon to wait on us and was bordering on condescension. Ordered the artichokes and had an order of the frites to start along with a couple of glasses of wine. Artichokes were great- marinated and served cold- fries nice too. Then the wait began for 2 orders of mussels and a burger. After 30+ minutes we asked when the food would be out. The answer was “I’ll bring it out when it’s ready”. There was no, “oh my I’ll go check” or “I’m sorry the kitchen is running behind buT I’ll see about it now”. We took it up with the manager and our server changed and all was well. Bottom line- good food was upstaged by rude service.
Very charming. In lovely neighborhood. Excellent food.
Food was very good. Well prepared and attractive. Our server had no personality and never smiled or chatted. The mussels were very good.
I and my wife liked La Moule very much! I can't wait to back and try some tasty new dishes.
The muscles were AMAZING, and the staff was very warm and welcoming.
Very good, the service was excellent, the
It was really nice ! Maybe a little bit dark, but very nice cosy ambiance in the restaurant
We wanted to enjoy a finely crafted cocktail --- we did --- and remained for among the best meals we've ever enjoyed in Portland. Merci.
The service is beyond compare.
Well, the food is very good. My husband, who had been a bit skeptical about dining here, pronounced after his first bite (of the pork cheeks), "we're coming back!" My mussels puttanesca were also good. We also enjoyed the rhubarb custard tart. However, the experience was tempered by (i) unpleasantly noisy environment in the back room (very difficult to hold a conversation, and actually hurt my ears a couple of times), (ii) rather surly waiter.
We enjoyed our dinner at La Moule to celebrate our 35th anniversary. It was lovely to be welcomed with glasses of bubbly! Great cocktails too. Everything we ordered was very good. Excellent value. Our first time here and we look forward to coming back.
Great place in every way other than the noise level. Impossible to have a conversation in the area behind the bar. Tone down the music, please! Other than that, LOVE everything else.
Service not up to par this time
Ambiance perfect with requested quiet table
Decent food, Very friendly host, very snooty food server.
Not the first time I had this same experience at on these groups restaurants
Great bar and alcohol selection
Awesome time!!! Great Service, cuisine and atmosphere!
Excellent mussels and spaetzle. A really pleasant evening.
The food here is amazing. Wine pairing was perfect and we are glad we took her recommendation!
We were delighted with this place. When we (old folk) arrived we asked that the music be turned down and voila’ it was ! We arrived near the end of happy hour and had a fine meal combining various dishes. Husband had oysters, chicken liver mousse and French first (not a veggie kind of guy) and I had the mousse (giddy that I did not have to share a bit of it), the beautiful and tasty butter lettuce salad and the mussels. Wow, what a lovely dining experience!
We stopped in to dine because of the Tuesday night " Dine out for Reproductive Health" Thanks for being a part of this even
Excellent service and the food was amazing. Had a great time in the relaxed setting
The steak would compete well with most any in Portland. The fiddleheads are a present special treat done in a very creative way. Always a special treat.
Really good food, services and cocktails. I will definitely be going back!
This is our go to for Mussels. Always good. We took a guest this time and they were equally impressed.
We had the best dinner on our short trip through portland and couldn't have been happier with La Moule. Our waiter was amazing, food was exceptional, ambiance romantic and lively, and the dessert was to die for. Have the waffle churro with chantilly creme and life is complete! :)
Great time as always. Highly recommended
