   Great cocktails and wines. Delicious and fresh-tasting cebiche, and the various rice dishes. Chocolate mousse desert was exceptional. Friendly and informative staff.

   We updated our party size to 9 and they gave us the same table but squeezed in an extra plate which made the dinner really tight.

   Horrible experience. The restraint itself has good ambiance. Starting off, there was an available table we requested and had a reservation, but they said it wasn’t available. A while later a couple sat there. Not sure why we couldn’t. We felt very rushed by our waitress who didn’t answer our questions about the menu and came back to table to ask if we were ready to order. It bothered my girlfriend enough that she complained to the waitress. When sat at the table, you are brought a small portion of sweet potato chips as many restaurants do with bread. It wasn’t much and we asked for another one. They charged us $8 for it. What’s bothersome about that is that the restaurant charges diners 5.75% of the check for… I guess extra revenue because it’s not for superior service. Charging 5.75% for nothing and then charging $8 for a few chips that were first complimentary is ridiculous. The “beviche “ we ordered was said to have seafood and a prawn. It had one shrimp and lots of corn but no visible seafood at all. Our main dishes were ok but small in portion and underwhelming. My girlfriend’s glass of white wine was $29 but the retail price of the bottle was $36 which is pretty ridiculous. My girlfriend thought the glass was $19 but menu is confusing stating that the $19 is for only 3 ounces but $29 for a regular 5 ounce glass. We definitely will not return to La Mar but also discourage others to avoid as well.

   Dinner was delicious and had good flavor and heat. We had a ceviche starter and shared two entrees. All three of us had a cocktail. Dinner was around $300 which seemed a bit expensive.

   Service was poor I asked for ice water and got warm water with no refill offers. Food was ok, I made a resi here a week in advance for a special luncheon with an out of town guest and when I got there they said they didn't gage it in system but could "accommodate" it so not to worry. Then gave us the crappiest outside table with one chair facing in towards the bar. So I was disappointed. Always chose it. I'll go elsewhere.

   This is my 5th time dining here. There's been a couple of hits and misses. The service was wonderful on this visit as well as the last visit a month ago. We ordered 2 dishes. The appetizer (one of the day's specials) was a fried soft shell crab, corn over a yellow pepper sauce was very good. The expensive crab, halibut paella $129 was cooked in a thick tomato paste. The tomato flavor was overwhelming. We couldn't finish the dish and each of us took home a large amount. The following day for leftover dining, the paella tasted a lot better. I prefer paellas cooked with seafood or chicken broth, which is how I make it at home. The waitress, Edyssa, was just fabulous. You'd be very lucky to get her to wait on your table. We shared a tres leches square of cake, it was delicious with coconut flavor. I will make sure to order this when when I return again for another meal.

    I’ve been several times and it never disappoints. The trio of cebiches is incredible as was my Smokey old fashioned cocktail. Also loved the pasta with shrimp, octopus and crab. I was stuffed though still forced myself to eat desert. The tres leches cake is amazing. The ambiance is also really nice. Such an interesting old historic building and the decoration is beautiful. The front bar is really striking as well. I would highly recommend it for a special occasion as it’s a little pricey but well worth it.
