We love this place. The food is a bit pricey, but my Peruvian GF and her mother can only make better. Worth the stop. Y
Very nice ambiance... great views of the bay and treasure island. Patio spacious and grand, great for outdoor dining. Only thing is that the waiters and staff seem a but overwhelmed, but no worries. The busboys are more than eager to help you get the waiter.
Drinks are fun, presentation fantastic and the taro chips are delicious! The crab appetizer, octopus and teridito amazing. Can’t wait to try the empanadas, which another table ordered for the entire table. Must be good! We hot the sampler which was amazing!
Got the spicy melon drink cocktail but heard the pisco sour is amazing, too!
Can’t wait to bring hubby to try!
La Mar is such a treat (if you can afford it).
We came to Lar Mar for a Sunday Lunch late in the afternoon, and both got the restaurant week tasting menu. I did make a reservation, and they weren't able to let me in early, so they are quite busy.
For service, it was okay. During the lunch rush, no temperature checks were given. However we did see people coming in for dinner while we left, and they were checking temps. We were seated at an outside deck, so it was hard to get attention, and we were slightly forgotten. (They took away our forks after the appetizer, but never gave us new ones).
The food was WONDERFUL. I loved that for restaurant week we got a little taste of everything. The app sampler was a little piece of their popular cebiches, and was so wonderful. the flavors paired well together, and all of the raw fish was wonderfully fresh. (Side note I loved putting the cebiche on the provided table chips, added a nice texture). I got the Lomo Saltado, and my fiance go the Arroz con Mariscos. Both were phenomenal. The Lomo was SO GOOD, the sauce had this wonderful depth of flavor. And they put like fries (potato quarters) on the bottom so it was a crispy soaked with the sauce, and was heavenly. The meat itself was perfectly cooked, about medium. The Arroz con Maricos was also very good, the seafood paired wonderfully with the flavored rice. I would say that the shrimp were quite small, and the seafood iteself was a little lacking.
Overall, I would love to come back for a nice dinner or happy hour. The vibes were also great, and the view is wonderful.
Impressive outdoor space. High energy ambience. Service was impersonal, rushed. Hostess was border-line rude. COVID makes it challenging to deliver gracious guest service. Restaurant is struggling with this.
Loved it! Great food, great ambiance!
Very good restaurant, food is excellent, and the service is great.
Had a lovely time on the patio — don’t sleep on the ceviche!
The check-in process for our reservation took about 10 min. The prices at La Mar have increased significantly during COVID. They are know charging for chips which is basically a standard staple for their ceviche and salsa they serve; previously they were free and came in a much larger size pre-covid. Overall the food remains consistent to when they first opened.
Manager was rude, salmon undercooked... over priced..
great outdoor dining
One of my favorite restaurants in the bay area. My fiance and I had a cold glass of chicha morada and some amazing empanadas on a gorgeous fall day, while watching the boats. What could be better.
The food was amazing
Loved the setting outside, can get chilly at the end Greg but reall nice and warm more insidez. Great service and amazing foods.
La Mar is little pricey but the food was delicious! I got the traditional cebiche and the fish was ridiculously fresh.
Great service, food was served quick! loved it!
Very good food - the seabass was memorable. The classic cerviche was outstanding. Service was outstanding and the location on the waterfront can't be beat. Convenient parking nearby on the next pier if you have to drive. Only criticism is the portions are a little small and it's a little pricey. Their COVID precautions are thorough and well thought out.
Stopped by for light lunch. Empanadas and ceviche delicious. Pisco sours out on the patio best way to enjoy a sunny day in SF!
Server was really nice and tried hard. I think the bill was $250 for two people, which I feel is a bit high, given the quality of food and experience..
Super tasty, nice to eat outside. Everything was great, food came quickly and it was a lovely night
Every good restaurant advertises 'specialty cocktails'. The difference is at La Mar, they really ARE special. Food excellent, too. Service impeccable. My only complaint was that the host was not hospitable. When I arrived for a 12:30 Sunday, Oct. 18 reservation, he never greeted me -- just asked what I wanted. No trace of a smile under his mask, or any other welcome.
I was going to write that off as a bad day, but, then, when my friend joined me, he told her I was already seated outside and sent her off to find me. It was crowded by then, and I was at the far railing; she had never been there before, and had a hard time finding me. Very poor form for a "host"!!!
It's pretty expensive for what you get, you pay for almost everything, from soda refills to extra chips. Limitied food options (Cebicheria with only 3 options for ceviche?), and service wasn't noteworthy at all. I'm a big fan of the peruvian cuisine but I was dissapointed.
First of all, the food was terrible. We kept ordering everything on the menu to try and find something that tasted good—we only found one appetizer that was worth eating. Feels like Covid has just become an excuse for bad service at this restaurant. The food was terrible too. My partner and I were insulted to find that after spending $300 on a fast paced lunch that included cocktails and the lobster (most expensive item on the menu)…that the service told us we needed to leave our table soon as she set down our dessert, 1.5 hours in. It was abrupt, rude, and ruined our otherwise nice lunch.
While I understand the need for time limits on tables during COVID….but this restaurant takes it too an extreme and uses it for self-serving excuse to churn and burn.
Really good place good ambiance and very tasty food. The beef tenderloins were very tasty.
Food was overly priced for average tasting food. Have had much better authentic Peruvian food at literally half the price. You’re definitely paying for the venue.
Unfortunately, returning a week after my last visit to La Mar the service from our server & waitstaff, were awful. Normally, the service is always excellent - even during this pandemic. We had to keep asking for beverages to be refilled and were even brought wrong beverages and dishes. Seemed like the staff were quite confused on what they were bringing out to serve. Lastly, when leaving and preparing the bottle of bubbles to leave, the server did not use a proper sparkling wine cap to secure the bottle. Very disappointing.
A wonderful evening out. Such excellent food and service!
La comida y la atención es buenísima el arroz a la norteña estuvo exquisito tanto como el lomo saltado y la torta de chocolate .
Si van de vacaciones a San Francisco no dejen de ir a este restaurante no se van arrepentir la comida es deliciosa 😋
The service was exceptional. They did their utmost to respect COVID regulations.
The food is always excellent! The only little thing was the music was loud. However, our server, who was amazing, respected our wishes and had it turned down.
Really great experience, we were celebrating our anniversary, purchase of a new house and successfully keeping our son alive for two years, with Covid and being new parents this was our first time out in a couple of years and we were not left unimpressed. Tables were not staggered on top of each other, food was as incredible as we remembered it, and the staff was very professional and amazing. Thanks for a great night!!
Despite making a reservation, we had to wait 45+ min to be seated. No apologies whatsoever.
The food was OK at most. Extremely overpriced.
Not the best experience....
Amazing food and drinks. Will be back soon!
Ceviche sampler was amazing. Each one had vastly diff flavor profiles and it was worth every bit and penny. Prickly pear margarita was delicious; not to sweet.
Consolidated menu due to Covid but good selection and probably reflective of the most ordered items from their pre-Covid menu.
Felt safe taking mask off to eat - good protocols and spacing of tables.
Staff was very attentive, food served in good time. Pisco Sours were well made.
Lovely place great food and friendly service I have been coming here for 10+ years their outdoor dining experience is fantastic and added with really fresh food it’s a winner for sure !
The Ceviche and Pisco are flat if you come from Peru. Especially for the value of the food. Would expect more from Gaston's Restaurant!
The excellent food, exquisite flavors and they take care of every detail in all the dishes, my experience in this place was almost perfect, the bad thing was the bad service I got from the waitress (a Brazilian girl) distracted and quite rude. I recommend the place for its food and great atmosphere.
Once we get seated, the support server , Rodrigo, approached the table to offer us some water as well as some food recommendations. He told us that the server is the one in charge of that but you could see in him his passion for what he is doing!! Perfect start!!
Our server Jasmine, she was profesional, attentive and nice!
Also mention the attention and the perfect service of Robert. Cleaning up the table all the time was needed!
We really love La Mar and we try to go twice a month, but so far it was the best service we ever had there!
Those guys, Robert and Rodrigo, they really know what they are doing and they have the genuine care that this profession needs!!
Miguel and Paula
Really good service and nice environment!
Service and food are phenominal. Price is not bad at all but obviously greater because of location.
It was great! Food was delicious and the service was good as usual!
