My husband and I have been coming here since we met 37 years ago for special occasions primarily because everything about this restaurant is consistent yet stays up with the times. This is one of the most comfortable and reliable spots in the downtown neighborhood, don’t miss it!

Honesty is the best policy. We arrived on time and checked in for our 6:45pm reservation. Probably 10 people standing around in the small foyer. By 7:15 pm there were at least 30 people standing around in the small foyer and no explanation from the management as to why no one was being seated, or for that matter why so few people were leaving their tables. Also no word on when we might get seated. We left. What was the point in staying. It would have been kind and courteous of management to set an expectation if they were having delays that evening due to staffing, etc., and maybe offer a glass of wine while we waited. It would have cost them very little and I would have been quite content to wait it out. But, as it is after that experience the probability of returning is near zero.
I was very excited to take my wife and daughter to La Gare. However, the wait time from the time we ordered our meal to our table was way to long. I ordered the veal cordon bleu, when it came it had no cheese. I sent it back and by the time it came back my family had already finished eating. The wait staff did an amazing job and mentioned that the inconsistency to my meal was due to a stand in chef.
La Gare always satisfies, wonderful food, superb service and a warm welcome from hostess Jackie. All meals include a delicious soup and salad. I recommend it in the highest possible terms.
A very friendly environment with a value meal including soup and salad that is routinely tasty in a restaurant where the waiter makes us feel like he remembers us. . A great place for a party or a night out for a loving couple. Generous with their wine pours.
They were busy so service from seating to finish was a little slow. My husband had been wanting to try the beef Wellington for a while now and when it was served it was a big disappointment. He wanted medium rare and the meat was cooked to completely brown on the inside as well as tough and very difficult to cut. My sister had the same experience with her duck. Looked overcooked and was difficult to cut. Everything else to the meal was fine.
Being a local in Santa Rosa I have eaten here several times and have ALWAYS had an excellent meal and exceptional service. This last visit, though, my veal cordon bleu was a bit dry and tough; still delicious, just a bit disappointing. It was a very thin cut of veal. which contributed to the dryness and a slightly thicker cut would have stood up to the cooking time perfectly. Do not believe I'll order this entree again. Overall, however, one slightly sub-par entree compared to at least 30 other entrees I've had here, their average is pretty good!
This was the 27th anniversary of our first date at La Gare, and the chef continues to create the authentic French cuisine we loved the first time. Our appetizers were great - can't go wrong with a huge shrimp "cocktail" and classic escargots with the luscious butter and garlic. The rack of lamb was done perfectly with a great dijon mustard crust; the beef tenderloin also excellent. And a nice treat with a complimentary dessert for our occasion - creamy chocolate mousse.
It was okay--not great. We had been there several times before. We had a reservation and had to wait about 30 minutes. Don't go if you are in a hurry. Fortunately, we weren't in a hurry.
A bit overpriced for the quality of food. The service started out well but quickly became horrible.

Great place for a romantic evening. No TV's, no noisy bar scene. A restaurant that still has white tablecloths. Its been in business for thirty four years.
La Gare has been my favorite for years! Did not disappoint! Everything we had was amazing! Crab cakes, Lamb, Schnitzel, Veal, table side Caesar (the best). John our waiter was wonderful as always!
