A restaurant does not make it for 42 years unless they are doing something right. The owners/chef do a menu that is not huge and delivers an excellent experience every time. It is a cross between a classic French and California fresh and available. The included soup and salad with each entree is a nice rounding out of the meal. Though I might not order them in addition to a meal, I could see having a meal of the soup, a salad and a glass of wine. The bistro format allows you to customize what you might choose to eat at any given time. I had the duck ala orange, a classic French dish, which was delicious. Partner had the special wild salmon. It was our anniversary and a small chocolate mousse was delivered in honor. There are fancy laming desserts prepared tableside available (Jubilee, Flambe, etc). The wine list is extremely well chosen and well priced. The California offerings were broader than the French but it was great to see half bottles and good options by the glass. We enjoyed our split of Sparkling and the Pauillac very much. Thank you La Gare.
My daughters graduation
Amazing service and food melts in your mouth!
Our server, Keith, made sure we had a wonderful experience.
Food was delicious, service excellent!
Fun couples outing!
Awesome little find!!! Made our day
Celebrating wife’s birthday. We requested outside seating however it was a bit chilly so we asked to be moved inside. The restaurant was very accommodating.
Our waiter Keith was very friendly and helpful in selecting our meal. My wife had the sole and I had the veal. Nicely prepared and tasty. My veal maybe was a bit too salty.
Nice that the meals included with soup and salad.
Overall a positive experience.
Our waiter Dave was so personable and attentive and great! We love him.
This was an anniversary occasion for us and the whole evening was outstanding. It had been a few years since we were last there but remembered how good the food was and we were not disappointed. We had a great waiter and that only improved the evening. Yes it was that good.
The food, service and ambiance is terrific!
ALWAYS SO WONDERFUL
FOOD ALWAYS SO DELICIOUS
First time In Santa Rosa.... it was nice to finally be out to eat. This was a business meal... but it was intimate and a great experience. The staff was great
Never disappoints! This place should be at the top of everyone’s list.
Excellent service. Good value for the food, entree includes soup & salad plus rice and vegetables with the mains. The outside seating is really nice for those that don’t want to eat inside. Recommend!!
Waited long time to be seated. Friendly but slow service. Food not worth the price.
Love getting back to La Gare after the pandemic. Service is outstanding!
Its a treat for my son who is moving to San Antonio. We were all happy because the food were delicious, the servers were very attentive, checking on our table quite often. The wait was not very long considering that the place was full. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Our family loved the restaurant. We always get a fantastic meal.
Went during pandemic and woukd have liked more social distancing between tables.
Wonderful food and romantic atmosphere with great service!
Sat outside which wasn’t bad but totally was rushed to order and virtually eat and get out! Sat down and was out of there in 1 hour! On our 32 anniversary! Really wanted to enjoy my meal and the bottle of wine we ordered. Very rushed ! Food was amazing and the crab cake and rock shrimp is a must order!
We had an amazing time. Our waitress was exceptional and we will always ask for her when we come back. The food was outstanding as usual. So happy La Gare is back in full force.
Great as always in every way! 🫒
Flavor was very good. Great wine and dessert. Steak was very undercooked.
Wonderful dinner with very professional service. Our gluten-free guest was tickled by the extent of the gluten-free entres. Overall excellent dinner. Very loud in the courtyeard; that could have been 20% lower. My only "nit".
It was busy and our waitress was clearly feeling overloaded. When we ordered the cherries jubilee she was clearly frustrated and told us we would have to wait.
We canceled the order and ordered another dessert but it was not what we really wanted.
Otherwise everything else was good.
We will return another time and hopefully be able to get the cherries!
Very friendly, great service, exceptional food! Would definitely eat here again!
One of the best value meals I have ever had. The incredible service, amazing variety of fantastically French food, and the homey ambiance all at an incredible price for California made this an A+ experience. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants a classic meal prepared flawlessly and with service so good and personal you feel right at home!
Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday. It was our first time here and honestly I had never noticed the restaurant before. When we got there, nobody seemed to be at the podium to greet us and we were standing around for some time until the host came. She didn’t ask if we had a reservation nor did she seem like she had been waiting for us when we told her our name. It was a little disappointing because I’ve been a host before and I’m always cautions of the parties coming in for the night, checking for allergies and seating preferences ect.
The inside did seem a bit crowded and the tables didn’t seem to be socially distanced at all. Luckily for us, we sat outside! The seating in the patio was much more distanced, which definitely put us at ease.
When we sat, it took some time for us to get waters and bread, but our wine arrived quickly after we had ordered it.
I didn’t catch our server’s name but he definitely made our night better. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, which was great because we had a lot of questions.
For appetizers, we were given a potato and leek soup which was very tasty as well as the house salad that we definitely enjoyed! The bread was a little harder than I would have liked but still delicious. The appetizers were spread out nicely so we didn’t feel too full right away.
I had the rigatoni which was nothing out of the ordinary, but I guess there’s not much you can do with pasta. He had the beef Wellington which he rated a 10/10. It was so good that he almost cried! I had some of the potatoes from his beef Wellington, which were perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside.
For dessert we had the chocolate dome. The presentation was beautiful and the taste was amazing! Not too sweet but very satisfying.
Overall, I was very impressed by the menu and the atmosphere, and I would love to dine here again.
Had a date with my fiancé at La Gare. We had a reservation and as soon as we sat the server told us we had to hurry before the kitchen closed. She continued to be rude, abrasive and not considerate for our questions. It was only when she saw our bill climb closer to $500 did she start to try to be more friendly. Their prized French onion soup was nothing more than bland broth with croutons and gruyere. The Wellington was ordered medium rare and showed up completely tough and brown throughout closer to a well done. Both dishes I am sure would be an embarrassment to the Praplan’s if the knew it left their kitchen. The sole dish had character, pate and escargot was delightful and the best in show dish of the night was the rack of lamb which offered a beautiful herbal delight across the tastebuds. The alley ambiance seemed to transform downtown Santa Rosa to an off alley of The French alpines. May try again on the next visit to town but with so many other excellent culinary options available it will be a hard no for awhile.
What a magical way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. La Gare is always our first choice for celebrating special events.
During April 2020, most places were closed and we weren’t able to celebrate our 5-year anniversary. So being able to eat outside in their beautiful outdoor seating was such a treat. The food was amazing and I felt like I was transported to France or somewhere outside of Sonoma County. We had such a great experience and I hope they keep the outdoor seating for good, as I love the option on a nice evening.
Thank you Jackie and La Gare staff for making our much anticipated anniversary celebration so special!
Wonderful neighborhood gem serving classic French dinners. Staff and owner were grand.
My experience at LaGare was wonderful! It’s like going to a friends home! I’ve been going to LG for 35 years and it is always top notch. Better yet is the lovely and cozy environment. The staff are always so congenial and helpful. It’s good to be back to my favorite restaurant!
I highly recommend La Garre! The food is super authentic and very delicious. The service is friendly and from the heart. I went to celebrate my birthday and I was treated wonderfully and made my day.
Wonderful food of high quality with an excellent menu of options. We wished we had larger stomachs to eat so much more. We’ll absolutely be back.
We loved the experience, I also appreciated the fact that they were very accommodating with GF options
Great experience! This place has been here for many years for a reason. The food is great and the service is exceptional as well. Will return again soon
we got a courtyard table as requested but the food was very slow (maybe it’s a french meal thing). two hrs into the dinner we still have not been served our entrees and we were getting sleepy. the server rarely came by to check on us. we could tell they were short handed so we did not complain but they really need to get more helpers when restaurant is fully booked!
Does not honor open table reservation
Went here for our anniversary last night and the food and service was great.
