Delicious food! Great service. Violinist was an added bonus.
Really nice evening - good food, good service, great violin player. Would def go back again!
Amazing as always! Our favorite place for a nice Omakase on the patio.
Always excellent service, food, and beverages. Some great new off the menu choices.
Excellent! Vincent our server was awesome and helpful
Fancy romantic setting with awesome customer service.
I am struggling with this restaurant. Granted we went on the night before Valentine's but we had a reservation but we still had to wait almost 35 minutes for our table. Then until we asked someone for a waiter, no one showed up to take our order. So from entry to getting a glass of water and to order took us almost an hour. Planning for this night seemed quite poor and disorganised. I don't know what it's like on a normal night so hard to comment. The food itself was not bad and seemed rather fresh and I felt it was pretty good value for money. I guess I am just struggling to give a great review because of the night we went and the long wait, standing, we had before getting to our table. Perhaps Kuu should think about limiting the number of reservations so customers actually can sit at the bar and wait for their table or something.
it was ok however service quite slow to order we didn't get a rose but all the other ladies did quite expensive
Had a reservation, was seated, didn't get a server for 20mins. They recommended the overnight flown in fish from japan sashimi selection. Probably a bad choice since we were both unfamiliar with the fish selection, very chewy, my date couldn't finish hers. We ended up just ordering some Salmon belly and O'toro. Couldn't finish the Japanese selection and wasn't ask if anything was wrong with it. The wagyu appetizer was also not very good, I frequent a lot of sushi restaurants and the dishes just didnt cut it. Service was slow and way over priced overall!
Wait was long even though we had a reservation. The bartenders were rude and we had a bug in our single malt scotch.
Music was good.
Food expensive
I really wanted to have an amazing experience but it didn't happen. I made reservations to celebrate my husbands birthday. That was easy. The hostess was very nice and accommodating when confirming my reservation. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly and smiling host. She immediately sat us. A great waiter makes a great experience. I'm pretty sure our waiter was having an off night. We explained it was our first time there and asked what she recommends or if there was any thing we should most definitely try. All she did was read us the menu and recommended nothing. The only time she was at our table was because we had to flag her down. Never asked how our food was, how we were doing. NOTHING. The service on behalf of the waiter was subpar. I had to ask a hostess to please send over the waiter as we were ready for our check. The hostess came back to me a few minutes later with our check as she couldn't find the waiter either. The live violinist was great, the mood was great, food tasted great. Service was bad. I expected better service as we were a table of 6 celebrating a birthday.
Nice place, good food, and excellent services. Definitely come back more in future.
Fantastic Sushi and fresh fish. Best Cod I’ve ever had. Wonderful sashimi. Great place.
Amazing service, amazing food. Outstanding wine and sake list. Outdoor dining with heaters available. They've recently added a new dessert -- purple yam souffle with coconut cream. Everything was delicious.
Florence is the best! She’s so attentive and personable! Always such a great experience to dine at Kuu.
Continues to meet expectations. Bravo
Sushi was really good, scallops like butter and bacon wrapped sea bass was just so memorable. The down side was the crispy duck, was inedible. Fatty, greasy taste and chewy. Couldn’t eat it! I would stay clear of the duck. Scallops and sea bass are worth the trip.
Overall great dining experience.
Expensive versus the quality. Better than a strip mall sushi restaurant, but not as good as Uchi.
food was amazing!!!
My daughter and I had a great evening! This was our first time there and we felt most welcomed and the staff was very attentive.
The sushi was so so delicious and fresh..and the Salaryman cocktail!!!! FABULOUS! We will definitely be back!
Great sushi, very fresh and it’s a great place to go if you’re wanting something non traditional -
Great food and service!
Excellent service from the moment we walked in. Food was outstanding. Will definitely be back.
Good, high end sushi with nice presentation and atmosphere.
The restaurant was not very packed when we arrived at 8:30 (on a Saturday). We had reservations for a table but were able to sit at the sushi bar. We loved the music (a guy playing trendy songs on the violin) and when he was taking a break, a trendy playlist. The bathrooms were nice but not very clean. The waitress was slow at first but did catch a good rhythm. We ordered Omakasa, and told the waitress our fish preferences but unfortunately received no salmon and the sashimi boat had none of our faves. The fish included. We weren’t crazy about, everything else was great!!
Overall it was a nice dinner, Josie sake was good. The total was $359, which seemed high for what we got. Next time, we will order independently as opposed to Omakasa...
Good date night place.
Food and service was excellent. By far some of the best makimono and nigiri I’ve had in Houston. Staff was accommodating with seating. Safety guidelines were in place without it being overbearing and disrupting the experience. Food was prepared right in front of us (at the sushi bar) and ALL of the staff provided excellent, timely service. Highly recommend.
Great service. Food was delicious. Waiter was very attentive.
As always, excellent food, beverage, and service. Wonderful live music (violinist) was playing that night. The only downside was that several guests did not wear their masks when going to their table or the restroom.
Service slow and the smoke from the hot rocks is awful; it completely takes over the restaurant. Makes dining quite uncomfortable and you leave smelling of smoke.
Doubtful we will be back, even though we enjoyed the food. It’s expensive though. $600 for 4 adults and 2 kids.
Kuu never disappoints and is always amazing
This is one of the best hidden gems in the I-10/Gessner area. A truly unique Shushi restaurant with a dynamic menu and excellent service. Save yourself time and park in the Gateway garage and walk downstairs. They have outdoor seating that is really nice when the weather warrants it. Definitely a favorite and a competitor for some top Sushi in Houston.
Our reservations were at 7:15. We left at 9:15 without receiving all the items ordered. Our waiter and the manager both apologized, but the service was still terrible. Yes, the manager took off an item from our bill, but ruined our Saturday date night.
The sushi concepts were great, but I was not prepared to have so much fruit puree in my sushi. The excess fruit juices definitely threw me off and I did not enjoy as much as I would have hoped. We tried at least five different dishes. The lychee martini was nice.
Food was disappointing.
Tuna tartar was deconstructed and avocado was purée??? Like a cold soup. So bad!!
Shrimp nigiri was unorthodox to say the least in a bad way. The actual tail was still there, why would we as clients want to remove them. The heads were there too. All extra BS. The shrimp pieces were way too thick, falling of the rice when trying to dip in soy. A disaster.
The wagyu nigiri was overcooked.
The salmon nigiri was fine.
For a place with that type of standard and pricing, I’d have had a better experience at a lower level restaurant. I’d never go back nor would I recommend it. And lastly who was that fat guy serving people and calling the bartenders baby?! So obnoxious and loud, I could’ve punched him, so unprofessional! That’s the last guy you want serving your clients. Doesn’t matter if it was Wednesday and quiet, unacceptable!
Very glad to see this fantastic restaurant is open again for lunch! The chefs here create the most amazing sashimi dishes. Probably my favorite in Houston.
Not your ordinary Japanese restaurant. We eat at sushi places all the time and we found their sushi to be really innovative and different than anywhere else we eat. The flavors are spot on. We ate almost entirely from the signature dishes section both hot and cold. My wife’s favorite were the chili prawns - spicy but just right. Also surprising was that we enjoyed dessert - not usual for a Japanese restaurant for us - I really liked the rice pudding (never would have guessed the chili flakes would work in there with pomegranate seeds). And the dinner was perfect because of our excellent server Kelly Pai!
Yeana is the best.
Amazing food and great service. We normally sit indoors and it has an amazing ambience but chose to sit outside this time. It was great! I love the food. We even tried some sake this time and it was great. Hope that they get a more extensive wine menu but it is always a wonderful experience at Kuu
I've been to this restaurant several times and it's always been great. My last visit was a bit to be desired. Service was understaffed and horrible. Food was not as good as my previous visits.
