We have been to this restaurant many times. Yesterday was the worst experience ever! Food was mediocre, service was non-existent. Waiter was terrible. Drinks came out halfway into the meal, soups were forgotten, dirty plates weren’t picked up and new plates were continually being piled on the table. He rushed through the dining experience. Terrible! We will be taking a very long break from this place!
Some of the best japanese food we’ve had in Houston. The service was great as well!
I've seen a lot of high praise for this restaurant and, having dined at Japanese restaurants like Uchi and Kata Robata, I would find this praise unfounded. The food was good and some dishes were unique. Service was strained by a large crowd and, apparently, absent servers. Our server let us know they were "a couple of people short". On the positive side, several floor managers assisted in delivering our orders. We needed some background on dishes and were grudgingly obliged. Way too loud and overrun by spoiled brats from Memorial. No thanks.
Kuu was not what I thought it would be. Nothing was wrong with the food, it all tasted good. But reading the menu before-hand and seeing the high prices, and photos of creative plating, I had the idea it would be an upscale elegant dining experience with polished service. Instead it was more casual and rushed, with staff shouting to each other across the room. We ordered hot and cold starters, soup, shrimp tempura and some sushi items. Everything started coming out very quickly and the waiter said oh, well it's tapas style, but he did take things back to the kitchen when I asked if we could pace more slowly. Anyway, some people may be totally happy with the vibe here but it just wasn't what I was expecting for the price.
Wonderful experience! Refined and fresh sushi thoughtfully crafted and presented. Attentive service with a smile. We had a great evening! Bravo!
Excellent Japanese food and wonderful atmosphere! The best Japanese restaurant i have been to hands down
Delicious. And great music !
We were charged $25 per uni without being told of the extremely high price by the waiter. I will not dine here again.
Nice brunch choices, plus all of their outstanding regular menu dishes.
Good food and service but
very loud and the air extraction system could/should be much better.
This restaurant was very overpriced. The fish was good, but you can get better sushi elsewhere.
The best Japanese Fusion I’ve ever eaten! Worth every freakin dollar. If I could hire Adison as my personal Chef, I totally would. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2015, and it has consistently been fantastic every time. We try to go at least once a month. I’d go every day if I had the opportunity. We’ve had our birthday’s there, our office party several times, our wedding vow renewal dinner and we always attend their yearly anniversary dinner. Their menu items are amazingly flavorful. The staff has always been amazing! We love Zach and Julio!
It’s was my husband and I anniversary so we decided to try a new spot, and so glad that we did! The omakase were perfectly prepared down to our dessert. The sashimi are very fresh compared to the overly hyped and priced restaurant in Houston. Drink were also delicious. Our waitress was great and very informative through the course of our meal, will most likely be back very soon!
It was amazing. The food was great. It felt very fancy and magnificent.
Very nice violin music. The Poseidon and Kuu makimono go great together. Phenomenal flavor.
Great ambiance! The food has the appropriate Texan twist to make it really special. The service is outstanding. Always making you feel welcome.
Very good Japanese Restaurant. Menu changes. Very Good food
Good selection of hot and cold plate starters are the stars here. Small wine list but a couple stand out values. Good modern decor and superior service.
We enjoyed our dinner at KUU. The food was great.
Great food! The appetizer selection is second to none. Wonderful sushi as well.
Great food! Our waitress was extremely accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Another wonderful experience at Kuu. Always top notch service, food, and beverages.
We waited at least 30 min for our first dishes came out. Only one waitress on a Sunday! Food tastes ok, but the portion is very small. Each of us ordered two main courses and still hungry. Will not come back.
Our Server Cindy was very informative and knowledgable of the whole menu. Kuu is lucky to have her in the team. Thanks to KUU and Cindy for my daughter's on the house dessert for her birthday!
The rolls were exceptional! Some of the rolls had unique flavor combinations that were creative and delicious.
Grandson to college
For an expensive Houston Japanese/Sushi restaurant, I expected much more. Both the quality of the fish and the quality of the cuts of fish were below average, in my opinion. Several other aspects just felt off to me as well -- e.g., miso soup served in a metal bowl with a metal spoon. Picky, yes, but those details matter in food, and not just Japanese food and service. The most disappointing aspect was the sashimi. I ordered the special selection of fish for $56 touted from one of the best fish markets in Japan. The fish was not fresh and the sushi chef's skill was more suited for making california rolls than for sashimi. I will not return, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The only thing I don’t like is the ventilation as it get too smoky sometime when other guess is grilling the beef
My daughter celebrated her 30th birthday here with us and 3 of her friends. We had everything our waitress suggested and everything was outstanding! I may not be able to east sushi any other place after eating at Kuu!
Best sushi in Houston. Also found that the happy hour is really great deal.
Have been visiting KUU more frequently recently for their fresh and extra special food preparation, tasty offerings and ambiance. We will return soon.
Outstanding sushi, very high quality and great presentation. Waiter was very knowledgeable and his recommendations were excellent. Also, waiter told us what had just arrived. Pricey, but well worth the cost.
The staff was amazing! This is the 3rd year my daughter has celebrated her birthday and by far, this was the best. They had a special dessert for her (she’s 9) and had the violinist come over and play “happy birthday” to her. Thanks for making her day so special and memorable!
As always, outstanding service, food, and beverages. We had not been in for a while and were very pleased with the new additions to the menu.
Excellent as always !
KUU is amazing and the ambiance made dining there very special..
Great food! The sushi is delicious
Always excellent service, food and 1 of my favorite places to go eat sushi!
Awesome food, great waitress who went all the way to write the names of the fish and take our picture to leave with out up to the violinist who had left. Cocktails and mocktails were outstanding. Will be back.
