Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. A notch above the competition. Our waitress was a bit surly but it didn't matter.
Expensive but good
Service was ok
Ambience is very nice
Very over priced for what you get. Service is bad and food was just ok.
Amazing staff! Super nice. And the food is worth the price!
inventive and well prepared and presented food was overshadowed by truly inept service. The waitstaff didn't fully understand the menu and didn't listen carefully to what was ordered.
I wanted to give a new place a shot so we tried Kozu. The place was dead empty on a Saturday night, which should have been our first clue. We ordered a salad and a rainbow roll for appetizers. The salad wasn't bad, but the rainbow roll (for $20!!) was just ok. There was nothing notable or even good about it. It was less appealing or tasty than any rainbow roll we've ever had. And next, maybe we just weren't ordering right but what we ordered was supposed to be an entree. They definitely had an entree price, but they were each barely the size of an appetizer. Drinks were way over priced as was the food for what you get. Maybe it was all about being in Southampton? I don't know but it was absolutely not worth what we paid. I would never reccommend Kozu to anyone I know, and we won't be giving it a second chance for sure.
First Japanese restaurant I have been to where they delivered all of our courses at the same time. We ordered what in a proper Japanese restaurant would have been delivered as 3 or 4 courses. They had run out of several things we asked for and also did not have the first bottle of wine we requested. Staff were quite nice. i know it's the Hamptons, but prices seemed a bit steep compared to NYC.
The music was FAR too loud - felt like eating in a nightclub. Food was fine but not good enough for the hefty price tag.
The Friday night experience was a delight. We arrived @ 9:30 PM, and we were treated as if we were the only guests there. Food was great with fair portions.
Over-rated, over-priced and over-staffed who are inexperienced and confused. Servers brought everything at once, starters, appetizers, first course, second course, including decreases, drinks, water and wine. Asked for espresso and came he it flat and cold, likely American drip coffee in a Demi-tase cup.
Inconvient valet parking. Do not recommend.
Very strange owner glares at everyone. Really uncomfortable. Staff is terrified of him. It's creepy.
The food is insanely overpriced. Music is way too loud early in the evening.
Get the spicy watermelon margarita. Very good food. Hamptons vibes.
Great service and food!!!
The food is poor. The service is not great. Maybe a fun spot for drinks later in the night. We eat early at 7:30 so unsure
Went on a Sunday night before heading back to the city. Place was pleasantly buzzy but we later found it was the leftover scene from a private event. That left just a few tables of patrons with music blasting overhead. Completely unnnecessary. The service was surprising good but the food was just average. No reason to return
Wait staff was very Unknowledgeable about the food as far as ingredients and preparation
Kozu was quite an experience. We went on a Saturday night. The food we ordered was excellent. But they had run out of Sushi- quite unusual for a Japanese place... The servers were very nice but extremely inexperienced and were unable to do the basics i.e. Put in drink orders in a timely fashion, provide plates and silverware, make recommendations on the menu. The chef is doing a marvelous job but he can't do it alone without an experienced serving staff.
Worst service I've ever had in my life. Was there for two hours and all I received was soup and one round of drinks. Apparently the kitchen ran out of sushi and no one thought to tell us. The waiter came over once to take the order then never returned to the table. The only saving grace was that the manager kindly refunded the meal. Will not go back though safe to say.
Food and atmosphere is very nice and relaxing but service was too quick. We were in and out in under an hour.
Nice atmosphere, horrible service, ok food and super small portions. Not at all worth the hype! Many more better restaurants than this!
Best sushi in the hamptons , large menu a lot of great options to choose from great price point as well
Too expensive for what it is.
once again, really enjoyed our dinner at Kozu. Great addition to the Southampton dining scene. I love sushi and its great to have this option. I love sitting out on the terrace in the summer but indoors was nice too. It's so hard to make a restaurant work in the seasonal hamptons so I appreciate Kozu staying open in the off season, at least for weekends -- lets support them so they stay in business!
Delish! Beautifully prepared and lovely place, my second time, I enjoyed every single bite... Don't miss the tuna with crispy rice cakes for appetizer, Ill dream about that taste!
We went off season on a Saturday night in September. The restaurant was empty...which was fine since we were a large group. But it could have used some music in lieu of lack of patronage energy.
Our primary waitress was attentive enough but seemed a bit annoyed. Got the sense she was filling in for no show staff or something.
Other than that, all was fine and good.
So I read the reviews and almost did not come here. Most of the reviews were bad but we tried it anyway, and we are glad we did. First, we sat outside and it was perfect. Our waiter was very sweet as well. We had the rice cakes with tuna and they were literally to die for. I wish I had 10 more right now. Then we had the mushroom buns....again, awesome! We had the special Kozu sushi roll, very good but average. The only downfall was very expensive sushi. But 5 stars over all.
I went to Kozu with a large group of 6 girls. Even though we had to wait ~15 minutes for our table we were able to get drinks at the bar beforehand. The service was great - the waitors came to take our order promptly and had great recommendations. Plates were small but great to share/taste. The catch of the day ceviche (Fluke) was great and the classic seaweed salad was delicious. Edamame seasoning was very unique too and great flavors.
Food okay ... Service bad.... Expensive.... Expensive.... Disappointed
😫😫😫😫😫🤑🤑🤑. Will not go back .
Incredibly accommodating staff. Fun atmosphere. Gorgeous outdoor seating but inside lovely also. Food is OK.
The food was good. Our waitress seemed like she had no interest in being there. The service was ok. We had to ask a couple of times for things.
Food was really good, but comically expensive - even for the Lamptons. Blah. $50 for a sashimi plate that costs $30 at any other Hamptons restaurant. Cool ambiance if you're looking for a "look at me" location or trying to be sexy.
The fish was fabulous! The inside room is not as nice as sitting on the patio, but overall very good.
Food and service were excellent. Not sure what all the negativity is about. We had a great time.
The manager was a very sweet man. He greeted us, explained the intent of the dining experience, menu, ect. The server didn't have much expression or personality, but was there when we needed him.
I'm a huge foodie and dine at some of the finest places in NYC (my home). For example: Cipriani, Red Cat, Sant Ambroues, Bond St. Unfortunately I walked into Kozu with high expectations and was let down by the quality of food, and ambience.
I sat outdoors on a beautiful evening. The furniture was beat up, and cheap, surprisingly for a new restaurant. It seems they rented it from a 10 year old event company last minute to open in time for season.
The food was average, and that's being kind. The prices were something I would pay at Bond St sushi in Manhattan, but the quality and taste was not there at all.
The edamame was over salted leaving my tongue dry and almost burnt - they also seasoned it with garlic... Why? Less is more.
I ordered a tempura lobster roll. The lobster was blah, and there was no tempura crunch which I was really wanting. Dissatisfaction for $22.
I don't see this place lasting more than this season.
Kozu defines Newton's law in terms of food and service. As fantastic as the sushi and food was, the service were equally opposite. For a restaurant to charge the prices Kozu does, you should expect multiple Michelin star service. What you get in the end is top notch food served to you by a staff that have no idea how to run a restaurant, let alone speak or understand English.
Awful service. Got charged for a bottle of wine they ran out of and they weren't able to refund us. Wait staff was slow and unfriendly.
This restaurant is not bad food but just plain too expensive for what it is. Wouldn't go back
Delicious food!! Service was better than expected based on earlier negative reviews. Music was way too loud and made it difficult to carry on a conversation at our table of 4.
Very loud.- but fun vibe. The food was ok- but the bus boy was more attentive then the waiter. And the manager was kind of a weirdo too. You would think that the waiter would want to fulfill your drink request - but it would take at least 25 minutes to get a drink. The food was good- the crispy rice tuna and the ceviche were great. The edamame was too greasy and garlic filled and the rolls were ok. I literally had to beg some water girl for water. #thirstyatkozu
