In a word awful! from being seated by a hostess that gave us a tour of half the restaurant and ended up seating us up close to the front where we came in.
Took a long time to order, took a long time for our food, sushi rolls, the order came out wrong, one of the specialty rolls was missing the cream cheese and the special Hibiscus sauce. We explained to our waiter who talked to the chef and chef said nope that's how its suppose to be. We are not stupid. Our waiter tried bringing us two different sauces which did not go well with our coconut shrimp & mango with no cream cheese, suppose to be like a dessert roll. it was bland no flavor. This restaurant used to be top notch. We have tried several times this year to go back to this place but the music was loud and banging couldn't even have a conversation without yelling across table. We will not be going back :(
I ordered the Asian Salad, it was basically shredded cabbage and dressing, 16$ for cabbage, maybe several ramen noodles in it. The server was nice, but won’t be going back there
The service was okay— the waitress was very kind but was slow to get waters to the table and we had to ask for sauces and extra refills more than once before getting them. The food was decent (sushi was good but averages $13-$16 per roll for 5-6 pieces). Pretty expensive if nothing happy hour. The sides are all pretty pricey… a small bowl of fried rice for $8 as well. Overall food taste was good but expensive. Server was kind but very forgetful.
Always enjoy the meal there. It was fun to have seating outside.
Great quality as always!!!!
The portions are overpriced, the take and chairs were dirty, had to use the Q code for the menu, not impressed at all. I've been to other Kona Grills, this location is fair at best. Our waiter was the only good aspect of the evening.
Great food. Wasn’t busy at all on a Sunday night. Plenty of room, yet for a party of five you wanted to sit us in a small booth! There were maybe ten other customers in the whole place. After a small complaint you moved us, but why are your hostess so inept? The server we had was awesome, great service. The food was excellent as always. Mai Tai was too much orange flavor- did you change your recipe or having trouble finding decent bartenders?
Six of us enjoyed a wonderful meal at Kona Grill last night. We all ordered different things and we all loved our dinners! The waiter was right on top of everything and seemed to enjoy what he was doin! Kudos, Kona, we'll be back!
We arrived early for our 6 PM reservation but were still seated right away so we decided to take advantage of the happy hour specials. We did all three sushi rolls available on the happy hour menu. The Bama roll was by far the best. We also were happy with the wine served; mine was the chardonnay and hers was the sangria. The service was excellent. Our experience with such that I see us going back where we will schedule ourselves to take advantage of a happy hour specials. On deck is trying the Poke’ bowl.
Below avg food and even worst service. They did a punch of mistakes in our order until we got bored, ask for the check and continue our night somewhere else.
First impression: busy servers, but efficient and friendly. Some questions about mask wear - we saw a lot of “chin diapers” on people who were not dealing with customers but they also were not anywhere near one another. It soon became apparent there’s a system in use, with masks up when needed. The giant windows were open and air flow was good. We felt comfortable.
Food was good, but pretty heavy on the salt/ soy sauce. Poké bowl was fresh and tasty, grilled glazed salmon was nicely done and the plate was hot. Brussels sprouts were awesome. Expense… is what it is. Right now, I’m not complaining about the cost of going out. But value wasn’t great, considering this is a chain.
Server was quirky and fun, although we were turned off by the whole “my manager has approved me offering you a free dessert, if you complete a review.” It got worse when we realized the review had to be written on the spot and confirmed. (This is not that review, lol). That policy basically uses social pressure to get customers to do a thing that’s one step below fake astroturf reviews. Don’t put your employees in that spot, Kona Grill. It’s not cool.
Food was great, but our server pushed us multiple times to do a Google review. First she asked but told us it wasn't "required". (Weird - of COURSE its not required!) When we didn't do one but remained at the table finishing our drinks, she came back and said we could have a free dessert if we did a review and included her name. The person I was with said she would do it and started the process, but she couldn't complete it because she didn't have a google acct. The server then asked me to use my account to complete it. I declined. The server left but returned a few minutes later and suggested my friend create a fake google account so she could complete the review. When my friend told the server it was wrong for her to make such a suggestion she assured us she agreed, but "management" told her to suggest it. We quickly left at that point. Disappointing, the food was GREAT but I won't go back to a place that hounds and bribes, and then suggests opening fake accounts to get an online review.
We’ve been to Kona Grill several times and always liked it, but tonight was the worst experience. I had the pad Thai, it was so salty that it was nearly inedible. My wife had the shrimp stir fry and it was so hot that she almost sent it back. It’s too bad this is a nice restaurant but I don’t think we’ll go back.
The sushi was poorly served and this time it did not taste very good like the previous times and the meat was overcooked.
The food was ok, our waitress was trying very hard, but the kitchen sent out mixed up food and we got our appetizer 5 min after our meal, but didn’t charge us for the app which was nice. It was mediocre not on my return list.
I didn’t feel the quantity or presentation of the food was worth the price. The sushi rolls were also super small and very dry. So bummed since we hadn’t been here in 4 years and were looking forward to it.
Amazing service and great food!
Came for my birthday. We had 6 people. Dinner reservation was for 7pm on a Thursday. Seated right away. Too loud to hold a conversation with people across the table. Food was good. Service was good. No special dessert for birthday which was disappointing.
Got together for a birthday celebration and sat in the porch area. Chairs were not very comfortable, service was prompt, but noise level made it difficult to hear the server and each other. Ordered the stir fry. I like a little heat, but this stir fry was inedible. Server offered more rice and milk. Will not be returning.
First time here. Love the Vibe! Our Culinary experience was unforgettable. The Chef who has a great personality brought out our SeaBass. The manager stopped by and explained the deserts. He recommended the Carrot Cake! Hands down best EVER! We will be back!
Food was average and a bit pricey.
Very nice upcale casual dining. They have a great menu and food and we really enjoyed the sushi and wide selection. Fun atmosphere in the summer with the open air exposure.
Wait person was great … funny
App-pot stickers burn on bottom cut the roof of my mouth.
Rum cocktail.. very good.
Honestly was disappointed by the quality of the food for the price paid. The sushi was basically mall-quality, the fried rice side was bland and had been sitting around for a while, and the sea bass was borderline overcooked.
Thank you for the review. Please let us know what we can do to enhance your experience for next time. Kona Management
Our service was excellent. Loved the Stir-fry with shrimp that had a nice spiciness. BBQ chicken Flatbread was also a hit. Not crazy about the Rib Eye quality.
Thank you for the review. We're glad we could provide a good experience. Please join us again soon!
The reason you reserve an outdoor table is to sit outside. Not to be seated indoors with no explanation. Then be told if you want to sit in their covered dining area which is outside the wait is 30-45 minutes. Wait isn’t that why I made a reservation? Also thanks to the hostess who spoke a word every 20 seconds because I am a dullard and could not grasp the fact that the outdoor section was full.
Had reservations for 6:00 outside. Got there 15 minutes early and they said it would be closer to our reservation time to be seated. Then, about 10 minutes past 6:00 the gal said they had filled up where we wanted to sit, and offered us another table. When we ordered drinks, he apologized because we'd just missed happy hour. We said we were waiting to be seated and would have been, but he said no. Not accommodating at all! Food was spicy, even for mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Won't be going back.
We apologize about your experience. Please let us know what we can do as a team to provide a better experience. Kona Grill Management
It was okay, nothing special. I thought it was going to be nicer.
Everything was very pleasant. The food and service are consistently good.
Thank you for this 4 star review. Come back to see us soon!
Music was WAY too loud and we couldn't even hear the person across the table from us. We asked if there was anyway to turn it down but nothing ever happened. Went to catch up with family and couldn't wait to get out so we could actually hear one another.
We're so sorry the volume of the music ruined your experience. On your next visit ask for Trio the General manager and I will make sure we seat you in a quiet section of the restaurant. Domitrio Lewis General Manager
Asked waiter for menus, he disappeared for 15min, so we went to the bar and got the brunch menu. Waiter eventually brought us a dinner menu which we didn't need. As he handed us the menu he asked are you ready to order? He gave us the menu 10 seconds ago, what di you think?
We ordered breakfast food and again the waiter was no where to be found, we had to go to the bar to get salt and pepper. Waiter neve refilled our water. We had to get our own takeout containers.
Their menu has a lot to choose from, which I liked. Everything came out great and service was good!
We are glad that you had such an enjoyable experience here at Kona Grill Minnetonka! Thank you for joining us. We look forward to seeing you again soon
Service was slow and disorganized. Our main course was served while we were eating the appetizer. The restaurant was very warm since a large outside door was wide open. Flies in the eating area were common - probably due to the open door. Finally, food was only fair (over-seasoned).
Restaurant week menu was well worth the money. From the Picasso roll to the blue cheese salad and progressing to the citrus lime chicken and the 10 oz prime rib entrees and finishing w a delicious carrot cake and infused pound cake, this fixed price 3 course dinner was date worthy and a great value. Outdoor space was comfortable and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Looking forward to trying happy hour in the near future!

Went for summer Restaurant Week to try Kona Grill for first time. Overall the experience was not worth the money spent. Food was just okay...steak was overcooked, green beans undercooked, and I could have used the round mound of mashed potatoes as a ball they were so dry. Drink was good, but not $12 good.
Waitress was new and did not know the menu or about Restaraunt week. Charged regular menu prices versus happy hour prices. Check was off by $100.
We do apologize for the calculating error. Please come in again and enjoy our vibe dinning experience with our Sushi Bar and American Grill Menu during Happy Hour
Our server was attentive and our appetizers and drinks arrived quickly. Everything was delicious, and the happy hour prices are great!

We went for the first time during Restaurant Week. There was a great dinner offering that allowed us to try a number of things at a really good value. The carrot cake was AMAZING!
Food was okay for the most part.
Asparagus was under cooked and not good. I did not like the miso mashed potatoes. Potstickers were really good and the prime rib was fair.
Our server was excellent.
