Kokomo's Restaurant - Old Lyme
We were very disappointed in this place. The food was horrible to say the least. The New England Clam chowder was tasteless-no sign of clams Nor spices- most canned versions are better. The shrimp tacos don’t even deserve to be called that. The corn tacos they were placed in were stale and immediately fell apart when picked up. Shrimp were dry - very sparse chopped salsa on top. Service was very slow and though our waitress was nice she was new and could not answer some simple questions. For a place on the water one would expect decent food - this place failed in all categories but the waterfront view. We won’t be back.
The food took forever. I had the shrimp tacos and they were terrible. My daughter ordered special fries with her sandwich that did not come. I told the waitress and she brought them with the bill.
Outdoor seating on the "beach" very nice. Didn't have mussels for APs so just went with megatower, lobster Mac and cheese and NE boil. The lobster tail wasn't fresh (frozen) as part of the tower so just OK. Otherwise the rest of the meal was fine.
Seafood OK not top-notch and the servers were friendly but basically kids that didnt really know the menu
The beach and palm trees were beautiful
Mikayla was amazing very very kind and her recommendations were amazing.
Service was very slow
Had to ask multiple times for drinks
Snapper was inedible
Food was expensive for portions and quality
Would not recommend or return
Our waitress, Kate, was great; very attentive and willing to help when she could. Unfortunately, the food took over an hour to get, wasn’t prepared well, and when we asked for additional condiments, we couldn’t even get those. Thankfully, Kate came through and got our meals discounted. Hoping for a better experience when they have the kitchen staff more up-to-speed.
Two hour wait for food. The kitchen was backed up and they did not have enough wait staff.
The environment was fun and the ocean breeze was even better on the hot day. But the food was extremely underwhelming. The food had no taste especially the snapper that I ordered. On the menu it says grilled snapper and when it came I got a fillet instead. That was very disappointing to say the least.
The food and service were good. Its also a lovely view. However, at least 3 different "customers" came up to my table that were intoxicated and/or appeared to be dealing drugs. The staff did nothing about it until we complained. No compensation on our bill either.
Didn’t get the table we requested outside, put us under the patio after seating us in someone else’s table, when the hostess thought they had left. Went on a very hot Saturday at 2pm. Definitely a younger crowd! Not for Seniors!
We were told the kitchen was backed up and did not allow us to sit at the outdoor bar to wai. They put us in the inside bar room where the bartender and the waitress argued who was going to take our drink order. Drinks came and were very poor. While waiting to be sat, we noticed the bartender helper was so backed up and he kept washing the used glasses with only water and reusing them again. Nevertheless we sat to eat outside after I insisted since no one came to get us. The food is horrible and since we knew the glasses were dirty, we ordered bottles beers. We ate quickly and got out as fast as we could. Don’t waste your time or money.
We very much enjoyed our dinner by the beach. It was a Friday night early, 5:30 pm and a bit iffy as to whether or not it was going to rain. There were only about 8 tables of patrons so it was nice and quiet for us! Hostess, servers, cooks and even the manager were friendly as I talked with them all. Appetizer was PEI Steamed Mussels with coconut milk and Tai chile. Main course was red snapper over plantains and mashed potatoes. The other entree was Ginger glazed tuna over bok choy and black rice in a ginger soy sauce. It was all very good. Would go back for sure!
Great lobster roll! Excellent service.
Pretty location with great views and super friendly staff!
It was my anniversary and our food was delicious my waitress could’ve been better
great amazing location, vibes, cool drinks and cold beer, the food great taste flavors, but overexpensive portions. Its a great place, wish it could be more balance on prices , portions, and creatives cusine!!!
What is not to love? Eating on a beautiful beach. I can tell you what, the food. The food was a big disappointment. Overpriced and tasteless. Prentious portions for the price of the food. We got the salmon and the prime rib. Just was not good. Also the Drinks had too much ice, making them watered down. Service was good, and everyone was friendly. Maybe the bar type food is better but I don’t know.
Melissa and James were awesome. Very helpful with suggestions Lobster roll was Incredible
As was the coconut crusted cod! We had a great time
Very disappointed food was not good portions were small drinks were very expensive food was not very good.Had lobster mac hard time finding lobster.Dessert was also not good.Very over priced.Only positive was service was excellent. Will not return.
Not impressed by the restaurant. The food was subpar and while the location was good, what they did with it was poos
So wanted this to be a do again place. Right on the beach! lovely! Cocktails good! Appetizer of grilled octopus salad has tasty. Very, very boring linguini with white clam sauce...it was a very plain white butter sauce with no flavor about 7 little clams...really disappointing...my husband had the short rib ragu on pasta as well...not bad flavored meat but pasta and sauce were again very boring...relatively flavorless...and pasta very dry. really a shame. not a do again...
Unfortunately the staffing was poor. After waiting about a half an hour I found the manager who immediately apologized & got us a drink. After that the waitress was excellent. We will go back again so hopefully the staff will be plentiful.
We began service at 1:15pm. We placed
Our order right away. 1 app. 2 salads for lunch.
At 3pm we atill did not have our lunch ( salads) the reason for the low rating of the food was because it was evident our app sat for a long time. Calamri and the saice had dried up on the plate.
There were only 2 servers covering inside outside and the vip seats on the beach. They seemed frazzled to say the least.
Lovely spot. Sweet, earnest server. Excellent Clam Chowder. Good drinks.
The problem was a mysterious 90 minutes to get our food. Chowder came quickly but no food, especially for our friends who had not ordered soup. When our collection of small plates arrived, they were not delightful and not hot. At this point we gave up. Finished up. Thanked our server for her earnest attempts to keep us posted on the delays.
It was nice to see the beach. It was a nice evening but the food delivery/taste issues merited an "ok" overall.
We had good meals and the drinks were made well. Eating right on the beach was great
food was very poorly prepared. The shrimp from the raw bar was great but the shrimp in the shrimp tacos was raw
Our first visit to Kokomo’s was very pleasant. We were greeted kindly by the Hostess and were given the option for different seating. We chose inside as it was a little chill & overcast. There was plenty of open seating & all with tall see through barriers between the tables. Our server was great, kind and fast! The food was amazing! Drinks amazing! Very pleased. Unfortunately, there was no lobster which was definitely the goal but we settled on some other clam options and they were all absolutely delicious. Very excited to re-visit Kokomo’s again, I’d love to make this my “special occasion” spot!
For sunny beach days
The hostess and waitstaff were wonderful! Very friendly and attentive. The ambience was also fantastic. It was so great to sit right on the beach and enjoy dinner. Sadly, none of us loved our meals. One person got the fish and chips and felt the whole thing was very bland. I got linguine with clams and all I could taste was red pepper flakes on overly cooked mushy pasta. So disappointing that I don’t think we will be back.
This was our second time at Kokomo's and we had a great night. We sat in one of the igloos outside.Melissa was out waitress and she's was fantastic .
Food was delicious. We will be back.
We were seated at a table inside. The service was very slow and it was more casual than we expected. We felt that our meals were a bit overpriced. Finding a parking spot was difficult. Would consider visiting again on a nicer day when we could sit outside
Food is good, but small portions for the price that you pay. Also wish there were more seafood options.
Excellent lunch. Outstanding service and good food! Really enjoyed our first visit there!!
Please update menu with correct info. The menu says you have red potatoes with the seafood dinner; however, it's actually breakfast potatoes instead of boiled. When I asked the server, she said that you all didn't have red potatoes even tho it's on the menu. Also, you didn't have any tops for your containers, so I couldn't take any butter to go home with my meal for my crab legs. We also had to ask for bags upon leaving even tho we all had carry outs. Common courtesy, would've been to ask if we needed them. Great location and spot for the restaurant and the customer service was pretty decent.
Our server was delightful and very experienced even though it was her first night on the floor! Her knowledge about martinis was excellent and the wine list was good; we liked the half bottle options. The food however was pretty ordinary; fish and chips lobster dock fare at restaurant prices. Overall the ambiance was good and they are running a very tight ship with respect to COVID-19 protocols; we felt very safe. I’d come back but with adjusted expectations about the food.
Great services, food and drinks on the beach so how can you go wrong. Check it out.
severely lacking staff. waiter 1.5 hrs for drinks and an appetizer. manager came over to apologize. mussels were undercooked. ambiance was gorgeous
Enjoyed Easter Dinner here -- can't wait to come back in the summertime. Great beach views and yummy food and drinks. Service was seriously great, such a nice and attentive staff. Small and cozy so there is some noise but that should be expected at a beachfront spot. Really glad we found this place on OpenTable, we live locally and had never heard of them before & we'll definitely be coming back regularly now! Really want to do the mimosa bucket but I think it's only for summer brunch.
