Stunning food presented beautifully ! Came with high expectations and they were certainly met.
The Deluxe Sushi and Sashimi Box was absolutely incredible. Beautiful fresh fish presented immaculately.
The counter seats were great because we got to watch all the chefs make the food from ingredients to plate. I went with one other person and had the omasake and the fried vegetables and mushrooms. Our udon didn't arrive. We waited a good 30 minutes and in the end left without it because we had to go home and had already been in the restaurant for over 2 hours. Our booking was at 5:45 pm and it was pretty quiet. About 6:30-45 it got busy and was a little louder - this was just because of all the customers talking of course. The music got turned up a bit too loud and one of the sushi chefs noticed this and told one of the waitresses to turn it down. The layout is nice and modern, dimly lit. The service from our waitress wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst.
We also had the roasted green tea and the cherry blossom tea. The roasted green tea was very fitting and matched well with the food we were eating. The cherry blossom was a little too strong for my liking but it smelt so fresh, like spring.
The receptionists were friendly and had no problem finding me on the booking list and didn't need me to repeat my details which was nice as I sometimes have to slow down for the other person to find my booking.
Overall it was a great experience and my partner enjoyed it very much. Wouldn't go again but that's only because we like to try new things all the time and the price is a little steep.
The ambience of the the restaurant is quite intimate and dark. Very indicative of the indiosyncratic vibe of Melbourne. For the price point of Sashimi, I slightly expected higher quality ingredients to be served. IMO it just seemed a tad mediocre. Service was exceptionally friendly and knowledgable, however, servers should expect to be a bit more attentive especially when it comes to refilling drinks and refreshments as it was only refilled towards the end of the meal service. Overall great experience.
Kisume was a wonderful experience. We had a fabulous meal sitting at the sushi bar. We watched with amazement at the sushi chefs doing their work of art with the dishes, we will be back!
Slow service . Had to wait 30 mins for a table thatas already booked . We were compensated with their signature dessert which was great . Good food overall and good value for money .
Had the tasting menu with Sushi upgrade. Expensive for what it was. Much better Japanese with higher end ingredients (toro and uni) available at that price point elsewhere. Wouldn’t recommend.
Excellent food and service, one of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne.
Exceptional food! Officially my favorite restaurant in Melbourne. The food was made with lots of care and thought. Really fresh and vibrant. Dessert options were amazing as well. Black sesame panna cotta is a highlight dessert dish- I hope you guys will never remove it frm the menu x
Just wonderful! Service and food were superb. We’ll definitely visit again.
Whilst is Lisbon having sashimi the chef recommended Kisume and I am glad we made it here it was excellent and tgsbjs for accommodating me with crutches will be back thanks again
Was a bit of let down with an unexpected incident. However the staffs quickly fix the let down in a promptly manner. The food are delicious and creative. Excellent sake and other drinks menu. Overall my dining experience was good.
Had high expectations and the food was good however I don’t believe it was worth the price.
Food was okay, would have appreciated them catering to a pregnant person a bit better on the feed me menu, $110 for a couple of goyza, some edamame beans, vege sushi and a main of cucumber salad (couldn’t eat the fish or beef dish) seemed very expensive, especially when they were advised of the pregnancy! Service was slow, especially at the end, and took half an hour to get a bottle of wine we never ordered removed from our bill while we waited to leave.
It was great to watch the food being prepared at the counter. The seafood was fresh and the flavors delicious. I found the Tempura oily and some rice would have been nice included in the quite expensive meal.
Been there few times
But in this occasion service was really poor and food not as good and enjoyable as usual.
Luckily the food here was fantastic because the service was not at a level I would expect for this type of establishment. We had to ask for water and beverages to be topped up on numerous occasions and weren't even offered coffee or more drinks with dessert. The tasting menu was excellent, plenty of high quality food, although there were some long waits for different courses. You expect attentive service when you are paying this much money and unfortunately it let down our whole experience.
didn’t live up to my expectations very nice but thought the food was underwhelming.... and a little pricy for what it was ... the place itself and staff fabuolous ....
This is my second time at Kisume and still loving the Tasting Menu very much. The deluxe sushi as good you can get in Tokyo and I really think the sushi from Kisume is one of the best in Melbourne. The steak with foie gras cooked to perfection and so delicious. Thank you for the hospitality and I will definitely coming back in near future.
Perfect except for the barbecued beef - it was a tough piece of steak with too much gristle in it
Great food and good value. Love the atmosphere.
The been and fois gras was really good
Really nice night out. Service was a bit hit and miss- we were told the wrong dishes at one point and it took a very long time for things to come once ordered. The food was lovely- we got a tasting menu but I think i’d Individually choose next time. Way too much food in the tasting menu!
We had Omakase at Kisume. The sushi was extraordinary - exquisite in presentation and taste. Chef Daniel helpfully explained the nature of the sushi as he prepared and presented the courses. One of the best meals we have had.
Food was good, as expected. Ambience and service good. However, was unpleasantly surprised when charged $11 for 'still water'. We were given the option of "still or sparkling" and should have thought to ask for 'tap'.
Food was good (sushi was tasty) but not worth the extortionate prices. The caramel whip dessert thing was average - literally a piece of a dried mandarin, a couple of blobs of whipped cream (caramel flavoured) and a cube (the size of an equal cube) of cake (priced around $19). Staff were friendly but service was a bit rushed (our coats were brought to us during our dessert service).
The service was attentive and the red rice beer made specifically for the restaurant was good, but other than that Kisume had nothing exceptional to offer. We ordered the sushi deluxe patter and at $145 I was expecting an exceptional product. What was delivered certainly wasn't bad sushi, but it wasn't any better than food made by an average, suburban restaurant. We also had a whiskey flight, which didn't really showcase Japan's best, but at least at a moderate $25 it didn't feel like the disappointment the sushi platter was. In the end I left feeling like I could have had a better night visiting my local Japanese restaurant and hitting up a specialised whiskey bar and still had an extra $100 in my pocket.
Went to celebrate my husband birthday. This is the second time we have been there and each time we have just asked the waiter to pick a variety of food and we loved each dish.
Excellent food and service was great
Everything that we ordered was wonderful and cook to perfection. We loved it so much that we came back the next day and try other menu items!
Amazing service and staff went above and beyond. The food was incredible and affordable. Four of us went for the dinner service, two of us ordered the 10 course omakase and two of us ordered the tasting menu. Both were amazing and would definitely come back again if we were back in Melbourne.
Great night celebrating my 28th anniversary. I will book the private function room next time. The Front of house staff went out of their way to make the night memorable. Love your work.
I don’t understand the point of making a reservation for an anniversary for 8:30 when we aren’t taken to our seats for more than an hour and begin to actually eat closer to 10pm. The floor staff were disorganised and had no idea what was going on. In their defence they did try to make up for it with some gyoza and a dessert on the house but the damage was done. Our night was frustrating and we left disappointed.
It was great. The venue downstairs lacked a bit of atmosphere
I booked on line, received a confirmation, then on the day of the booking an email arrived telling me the restaraunt had cancelled my booking.
A staff member called after our booked time to enquire why we weren't there, I told her about the email which she could see had been sent. She said it was a computer error, apologissed and left it at that.
Went for a birthday celebration and had the tasting menu. I specifically wrote the type of celebration as a "birthday celebration" and even confirmed I with the management of kisume when I arrived. However, the dessert came and it says "happy anniversary" instead of "happy birthday".
They also forgot to provide us with plates and cutlery when we arrived and forgot about our soy sauce for the sushi box.
Overall the kingfish sashimi and the four grass tenderloin were the highlights, but the gyoza was nothing special and the cucumber tataki was disappointing as well.
We were taken back by how classy, elegant the place was- perfect setting, balanced atmosphere- loved the music. We were well- received, staff were friendly, informative and professional. The food was ...on point. Perfect place for romantic, classy girls night-out or self-reward dinner.
Highly recommend to anyone to visit and awaken their palate
Amazing, food, drink and service. Would definitely recommend.
Loved everything about it! Food delish, service the best !
Service was friendly, attentive and warm. The food was the standout though, as well as a beautiful atmosphere with a busy yet peaceful vibe, so perfect for a romantic evening. Loved it.
Food was amazing, cocktails out of this world. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Waygu beef was a bit disappointing portion size to cost but overall amazing.
We had the tasting menu with added sushi. Beautifully presented and very tasty.
