Originally opened by Jane Vobe in 1772, this authentic reproduction public house serves up a transporting experience for the senses in Colonial Williamsburg. Everything is true to the time period at King’s Arms Tavern, from the fashion sported by servers to the pewter candlesticks—all adding to an air of colonial elegance. Inspired by 18th-century recipes, but with updates to suit 21st-century tastes, tuck in to a chophouse menu featuring prime rib, pork chops, and more.

ADA Accessible dining is available in the Purdie Kitchen. Please note this colonial building is separate from King’s Arms Tavern. Please check-in at the front, and our host will escort guests to the Purdie Kitchen.

The taverns are located in the Historic Area, and not on a public street. The Tavern is a short walk from the Tavern Parking lot which is on Francis Street.

Had a great dinner at King Arms Tavern. All the staff we encountered as very welcoming. Our waitress was very helpful with the menu and the food was delicious. I loved that almost anything on the menu was either gluten free or could be made gluten free. I felt I had so many options. Next time we’re in Williamsburg we will return!

This is the type of restaurant you go to for the experience, not the cuisine, per se. It was fun to learn a little history about 18th century dining and dining customs so it was definitely worth the trip. the food was okay - the salmon dish was sadly overcooked as were the pork shanks. They had good flavor but were tough to chew due to being overcooked. We also tried a "punch bowl" and the rum was non-existent. Add to that the extensive amount of ice in the bowl and it was watered down even further. The food was very expensnive for what we got. I understand that this type of experience comes at a premium. OVERALL this was a fine experience - you're likley not going to find this type of dining experience outside of colonial Williamsburg so take it in, but be aware of the shortcomings and be prepared to pay for it.

The meal itself was delicious, but the prime rib left a lot to be desired! Mainly very chewy throughout, lacked flavor and I’d rather have Au Jus instead of the thick gravy provided. Maybe that’s a period thing. The rest of the dinner plus pecan pie was very tasty. I will try a different main course next time! Great quiet atmosphere and friendly staff.
