King Street Dispensary
During a painstaking restoration of our historic property, a cache of relic South Carolina Dispensary liquor bottles were unearthed. Now salvaged and proudly displayed, these bottles have inspired a living history surrounded by one of the most extensive selections of LOCAL and CRAFT beer and spirits in Charleston.
To pair with our extensive beverage offerings, we proudly serve a full GASTROPUB style menu. Signature items include delicious Scotch Egg, handmade Bavarian Pretzel & Beer Cheese Fondue, and our famous old fashioned double-stacked, bacon-crusted Dispensary Burger, certain to soak up ANY appetite!
Join the LOCALS for great food, amazing Sunday brunch, nightly live music, & the best patio on King Street!
Went early and it was quite loud. So if you want a date night to chat, not the best place. The food was phenomenal and the service was on point.
Fun vibe, great food and service
Enjoyed brunch at the Dispensary. Got the $15 mimosas that served more than the 4 stated on the menu. (nice!) My wife had the blackened shrimp salad (cucumbers, tomatoes, guacamole, crispy tortilla chips, cheese, romaine, and honey cilantro dressing $13) and I had the madame croquette (ham, gruyere, creole mustard, mornay sauce, sunny side egg, and toasted brioche $12). Everything tasted great although the ham was a bit too salty. (I guess that's too be expected?) All in all an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.
Food was good. Decor gives you something interesting to look at in every corner. It was quiet as we went for lunch. really enjoyed it.
We popped in for a bite to eat on a date night. We were really impressed by King Street Dispensary. The atmosphere is great, the staff is accommodating, and the service is prompt. We really enjoyed the pretzels and beer cheese for an appetizer. The wings are a good size and tossed in a good amount of sauce, but isn’t too saucy. The truffle fries are to die for. There is also a great selection of beer here as well. I highly recommend.
This was my first trip to the Dispensary. It was more of a bar atmosphere than a dining one on this night. I am a sports guy, so I did not mind the Carolina game being on with volume. A table farther away from the bar would have been better for me to talk to the other members of my party without having to yell. The food was great! We had the buffalo chicken dip and mozzarella sticks as appetizers. Entrees we’re Ribs, French Dip, Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos, Chicken Wings, and an Oyster Po Boy. All were delicious. I will be back but will check the football schedule a little closer next time.
Kinda lame
Great courtyard for outdoor eating etc out back.
Good value.
Great place... Good food and very nice servers
Greek salad and the Caesar salad with chicken on it with excellent the table next was had this fantastic looking hamburgers that look really good I'll try that next time we go.... The waitress was great.... Very accommodating
It is ok to go out and have a good time with friends, good service, but very noisy.
Really fun place with live music. Took family and it was great!
It's a frat bar parading as a gastropub. Food is nothing special. Loud space, unpleasant staff who seem bothered you showed up. I wouldn't return.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Initially, the only table available was a bar table right outside the bathrooms. We sat there and as soon as something else was available, the staff offered a booth in main dining area. We split a French dip, truffle fries and a salad which were delicious.
I don't know which was better the food or the service since they were both outstanding! Will definitely be going back anytime we're in Charlston.
Food, Service, and atmosphere terrific. 6 top tables would be nice. We were slightly cramped in the booth. Will definitely return!!
The Bavarian pretzel and short rib poutine were amazing. The service was sub par.
They did a wonderful job accommodating our large group! It rained right before and although our table was reserved for outdoor dining they moved us indoors!
The outside seating was great. There was a private party that had the upstairs balcony reserved and a band started playing around 9pm, the music on the patio was playing also so it sounded terrible. The patio got busy around that time and people started coming out there to smoke. But overall we had a very positive experience and would definitely go back!
We made a reservation very last minute, but were seated right away and received our food and drinks in a timely manner. Though they were busy, our waitress did not forget to check in and ask if we needed anything. We both got the steak frites and they were fantastic! Good portion size - did not feel over full but was able to finish the meal! Will definitely be coming back.
I love trying the new place so King Street Dispensary fit the bill. Cool patio and great service, but I wasn’t into the country music soundtrack that came with it. The teriyaki wings and Pinckney Palomas paired nicely, though. I’m guessing this is more of a late night spot for college peeps. I don’t fit that profile.
Went to the Dispensary after graduation. Group of 16 gathered on outdoor patio. Despite how many of us were there, service was outstanding. Drinks and food were promptly delivered and delicious. Cannot recommend the Dispensary enough!
Great food, awesome experience
We had reservations for a group of 8 for a Sunday Brunch that we were very excited about as most of us are not from the area but found the menu to be diverse enough to make everyone happy. When we arrived we found several of the female servers toting large trash totes through the front door and out to the back. Not only were they rude about us being there at 11:15 ( they opened at 11, our reservation was at 11:15) but literally one said “I’ve gotta get through here”, no polite excuse me or even better maybe they could have sat us first then moved the trash cans? Also why would trash totes come inside a restaurant? Seems unsanitary. We figured it was just a fluke day, everyone has them.. they were not prepared at all for opening.
After we were seated not only did our server come back and forth 6 times before I finally had to say, we would like to order ( once again she had to go get a pen and paper to write down the order) keep in mind we were the only people in the entire facility for first 20 minutes.
Finally order, everyone loved their food as it was just as amazing as we had hoped! Kudos to the chef and cooks!
However the server still struggled the entire time.. she was disorganized, forgetful, not very friendly and clearly needs more training on hospitality.
As a restaurant owner ( our restaurant is not in this country) I would have been embarrassed about how the team as a whole was so Ill prepared for opening.
We will probably return when I. Charleston in hopes that the service is better because the food certainly is amazing!
This place is great for apps and drinks, but I think the actual food menu is very comparable to traditional pub food that can be found in most cities. Also, Brunch is only served on Sundays, which was disappointing, as the Brunch Menu looked delicious and we were there on a Saturday.
Food was great but service was subpar. Server never told us the specials, consistently had to ask her to refill water, had to ask her to take away dirty plates.
Very salty
The music was turned up WAY too loud for dinner time. We had to shout at our waitress so she could hear us. They were out of many beers (it seemed like every beer we tried to order was unavailable). The food was good, but that was really the only thing it had going for it. And for Charleston standards, the food didn't really outweigh the other issues.
I honestly don’t understand why they are on Open Table. They don’t honor reservations. Every table was full and the entire place was packed. They attempted to find us a table outside but it had previously rained so everything was soaked. It’s definitely a college atmosphere and shouldn’t be confused with anything else.
Nice place, wouldn’t know it from the street. Great back yard and the food was great.
Ambience was great but the bartender didn’t know how to make sweet rum drinks for our birthday girl, the lemon vinaigrette salad dressing they recommended was all oil and no flavor and the shrimp tasted like frozen straight out of the bag. Definitely doesn’t meet the Charleston foodie standards.
Duck Club really good. Burger was not very good.
Fun outdoor area! Great wings and super salads! Loved the burretta salad! Very friendly staff!
Noisy. Uninspired food. Server got many things wrong. Just not a good experience for dinner. But it would be fun, I think., for its bar scene.
Great food and service, but music is so loud making it difficult for conversations.
Don’t go here to eat, drink yes, eat no. The loudness classified earlier was not “energetic” unless you call a bunch of guys screaming at the top of their lungs “WOOOOO” every 10 seconds or so. This is a bar, not a place to dine. The food is more along the lines of bar food. Don’t get me wrong , plenty of people talking at the top of their lungs may be for some , but just not for me.
We like the Dispensary but if you don't want to be surrounded by college age patrons standing next to the bar which is next to your table and don't want to deal with all their noise, go on a weekday.
Used open table to reserve table for 5...walked right in and the table was ready...drinks fast...food great...noise level high (table of 70 year old and older)...we enjoyed the “young music”.
Apps were great and came out quick! Reuben was AMAZING. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server wasn’t the most personable but did well. We went kind of late for dinner on a Saturday so the bar scene was showing up so it was loud but we had a great time!
Our server was great and our table was ready for us, but they were out of the appetizer AND meal I wanted. Food portions (for what I ordered) were very small, but it was good. Don’t go here if you don’t want to have to yell for your friends to hear you, but DO go here if you love live music.
