King Charles Holiday Brunch at The Don CeSar
Wait staff was awesome
View was great
Food was good
Love the rooms
I was disappointed with the brunch...given the cost, my expectations were high.
The service was great..but the food, well, I'd say... less than average. They even ran out of items! What? At @100 per person, this is unacceptable.
I've always loved the Don..but this will be my last meal there.
One thing that surprised me was the utter lack of decor. On each table there was a small vase with a bunch of flowers that looked like something from Sam's club. Pitiful.
Great variety, quality dishes and desserts. Expect to spend a few hours and take small portions to fully enjoy the King Charles Christmas Brunch.
It was so much better a few years ago. There were no vegetables at all. The crackers were stale. The salad bar was horrible compared to years past. We will not be doing this again. It was a big disappointment.
This was a Holiday Brunch that cost 110 a person. The food was equivalent to any average Sunday brunch in America. Absolutely nothing special. No prime rib no ham no turkey no yams no special desserts. The veal was so tough I could not cut it and my boyfriend actually could not swallow part of his. I was thoroughly disappointed. Service was poor. We waited 15 minutes to get our check and then had to go to the wait station to ask for it. 21 percent tip for nothing. We went to Don Cesar last year and the experience was totally different. We live in Tampa Bay Area and there are dozens of much better options.
Not many options for main entrees. Dessert area out near the elevators (across from bathrooms) and crossing foot traffic from elevator and those checking in was awkward. Not worth the high price for Christmas brunch.
We were extremely disappointed in the King Charles Christmas buffet. The food was below-average with no salad selections, only two vegetable dishes and the rest were just cheap carbohydrates, with the exclusion of a veal roll and a seafood table. The dessert table we're dry cakes and small cups of tasteless treats. There was nothing I would expect for a high-end restaurant such as mashed potatoes, a good roast beef slice and some desserts composed of things people enjoy such as pies and puddings in something with taste and substance. The service was fine but we are not drinkers so we did not drink the champagne. Then they added a $35 service fee and expected a tip on top of it so we walked out with over $220 bill for a miserable Buffet. Save your money and go somewhere else with good food quality. Even for a special occasion I would not recommend this establishment because they're trying to cut corners on food quality and make a killing on patrons.
Outstanding food and service in a wonderful venue. Would only recommend it for a very special occasion however due to the astronomical price.
The band was inappropriate for the occasion. They simply weren’t very good. It was difficult to talk when they were playing. The sax player was scary looking. The group played their sets as if they were playing a night club - long solos that NOBODY was listening to. Get a professional piano jazz trio - well dressed and nice looking.
Mothers Day Brunch, i made reservation following ad for $50.00 brunch buffet. Only tables available on such a late notice. I had sticker shock after receiving my bill for 200.00 for just two people! We only had two small mimosas and could only eat so much food. It wasnt worth the money in my opinion.
Amazing view! Really great brunch you have to try the donut waffles!
Christmas Brunch has been our family tradition for many years now. We love the ambiance and the great service. The food is also fantastic. We take family photos in front of the tree in the lobby every year.
Incredible selection of food and friendly staff.
To Valley Park for a brunch and charges $30 a car is absolutely outrageous. We had to wait over 20 minutes for a vehicle because the valley people were standing around and couldn't figure out what their job was. I think this was the first time I ever got my car out of valet without tipping anybody. That is how poor the service was. To charge close to $70 a plate for a brunch on a holiday and not have your act together during the meal is extremely poor planning. I would definitely suggest to check out The Vinoy or the Tradewinds which is a fraction of the price with better service. The wait for the omelet station was so long we didn't even have a chance to sample it. They were completely overbooked and understaffed with not enough food to go around. Very unpleasant experience. The View, was really good. Very beautiful to look out and to see the water and the beach. I guess we were paying for the view.
While expensive, the food was very good and was plentiful. It was also diverse.
We were really looking forward to this. Unfortunately, food was not fresh. Huge disappointment. We had to wait some time for our table to be ready, which was not too big of a deal, but when we were ready to leave we had to wait quite some time to get closed out. Lackluster overall
We had Easter Brunch here. The food was good, but the whole thing was very unorganized. Our reservation was at 1:00. We were told to wait in the lobby for 15 minutes before making are way to the elevator that would take us to the area brunch was served in. We waited the 15 minutes, then waited another 10 for the elevator then waited another 20 minutes to be seated. They definitely overbooked. Once seated though everything was fine, but for $90 per person I feel I shouldn't have had to wait at all.
I have dined at this restaurant many times but the Easter brunch was a major disappointment. It was overbooked and not properly coordinated. We were a table of 7 and waited with a reservation for 45 minutes to be seated. We were then seated in a corridor, not in one of the dining rooms. At a price of $70 per person, this should not happen. I take reviews very seriously as this is the first negative review I have ever written. This restaurant has lost a very loyal local patron.
Loved the way the tables were decorated for Easter. Great variety of food. The service was super.
Great historic building, beautiful waterfront view of the gulf of Mexico. King crab and shrimp did not seem fresh (tasteless, bland, put too much out at one time). However prime rib and lamb were phenomenal, also offered fish, cornish game hens, lox, cheeses, and may deserts. Live pianist for the room playing holiday music. 20% king henry feast service charge automatically added to bill (+$60 for four) for Christmas Day brunch, and receipt had a place to leave additional tip.
Way too expensive even though they had everything were out of many items and were slow to refill
It's been a Christmas Tradition for over 10 years. And, the Don Cesar have got their act together again as they seated us i our normal spot along the Window Arcade with our regular wait staff, Amelia, Jorge and Reggie greatly us upon arrival. It's almost as if they are part of our family Christmas celebration. TYVM
This my second time attending the Christmas Brunch. I went back as my wife wanted my son to have the experience. I consider it a bit pricey even for a Christmas Brunch. The food was good, what I would expect from a higher end restaurant but I have had better for less. I may try it again in the future now that ownership of the "Don" is changing.
The Thanksgiving brunch was a last minute idea. The food was good, you can't beat the view of the Gulf.
The restaurant was overbooked - tables were actually set up along the hallway past which you had to navigate to get to and from the buffet. People from those tables were blocking the narrow passage, standing and talking with their families. It seemed greedy to have so many people jammed into the space, instead of the upscale setting for which we paid $60/person. Our table was not ready when we arrived, our group waited in the hectic, crowded lobby, and my several advance requests (acknowledged and agreed to by phone) for one large table and two high chairs were ignored. The food was very good. Not much attention from the waiter - my water was never once refilled, plates were not promptly cleared. We were not told about the kids buffet area that was off in a smaller room.
I enjoyed the brunch. The food was great and I would recommend it.
What a let down after last year. Stations were great, including very attentive and helpful folks at the dessert and carving stations, but cheese stations were a mess, vegetables were cold and, since the gratuity was included with the meal, service was less than stellar. We had to ask multiple times for beverage refills and 3 requests and 20 minutes later we finally received our bill. Really disappointing and likely our last Thanksgiving at the Don Cesar.
We had a really positive experience with this Mother's Day brunch. We were 10 total with 4 kids 9-11 yrs old. Mothers and wives were all smiles. Great service from the Don Cesar staff. Food was all really exceptional. Wide variety of options and everything was continuously replenished. Kids had a blast! I would definitely recommend. We're bringing my Wife's sisters and their families next year.
Amazing buffet. Harp and jazz band. Lots of hot stations. Everything that you could think of. And a great view!
