Our server, Anthony, was so fun and knowledgeable about all of the food! The food itself was out of this world. Easily one of the best meals I've ever had in my life!
Service was great, and the oysters were out in a jiffy. The oysters were smothered in cheese - you couldn't taste anything other than it! We ended up removing 3/4 of the cheese on the rest of them after the first oyster and you still could not taste the oyster.
Then came the ribeye, ettouffee, and carrots. Ettouffee was delivered in two bowls, which we greatly appreciated as it would have been very messy to split it ourselves. It was good. Two big shrimps for each of us, with good portions of lobster meat. The carrots were absolutely amazing - MUST TRY - probably the best thing we had.
Unfortunately, our ribeye was not very good. It came out medium well, with some of the slices grey and well. It was presented to us sliced from the kitchen, which we appreciated as we were sharing, but that led me to start questioning why the kitchen did not hold it back or remake it, as it was clearly not the juicy, medium rare that you'd expect. The first bites we took were very tough and chewy, not the melt-in-your-mouth flavor we were looking forward to. Additionally, there was no flavor, at all - it literally tasted like a plain, flavorless, dry piece of meat. I couldn't taste a lick of any butter. I was extremely disappointed, as we are avid meat lovers and this place was hyped so much. I mean seriously - I've had better steaks for far, far, less money. After 3 slices, we left the steak to sit there while we went back to the ettouffee and carrots. Eric came by to ask us how everything was - we said it was good, as we didn't want to make a fuss on our anniversary (I regret not saying anything now - it was a $60 steak afterall!) though I'd wonder why a table who mentioned how excited they were for their steak barely ate a slice or two and left the rest sitting there. (who likes cold steak?)
We ended up taking 3/4 of the steak to go. I offered it to my sister who recommended STQ to us. She tried it and could not believe this was the same place. Maybe the quality is going down?
Always a great dining experience. One of our favorites. The steaks and meats are top notch. Pork belly appetizer is a must. Carrot cake is great too!
We really enjoyed our visit to Killen's STQ. We took the kids and gave them a bit of a lesson in manners. Our server was fantastic with both the kids and taking our order and being on top of service. The only reason for the lack of 5 stars was that we didn't really care for the Octopus appetizer and my husband said his Ribeye was under seasoned, although the meat was superb quality. The sides and the desserts were fantastic and we would highly recommend a trip here!
Friendly staff and attentive. Great recommendations by the staff. Delicious food.
Great service and incredible food. Will definitely return!
Everything was wonderful as always. Waiter was spot on with his recommendations, and food did not disappoint. Carrot Cale dessert is the best in the city!!
When it’s clicking it’s fantastic and it was clicking Friday night. Menu a little scaled back for COVID but all fabulous.
The beef short rib tamale was perfect with the brisket chili topping and the dry aged ribeye was super succulent, flavorful, tender, and juicy. Paired well with a dram of Balvenie DoubleWood (or two or three...)
Much props to bartender/server Eric for his welcoming hospitality and friendly service.
Excellent cuisine. A++!!
Great food. Great Service. We will definitely go back.
Excellent restaurant definitely recommend.
This was our first time visiting a Killen's and it was absolutely the best steak I have ever eaten! The service is also outstanding----
Fantastic dinner and exceptional service.
It was freaking awesome. Eric our waiter served us all family style (actually ordered for us) and it was such an amazing food experience. Well done!
Our server was excellent and explained everything to us including what is so wet aged n dry aged. Thank you
Food and service was outstanding
We went for our 14th anniversary and every part of the experience was incredible. When we came in, they had a anniversary card on the table to welcome us. Our server Anthony was a joy, and he was highly knowledgable. His recommendations were spot on. Our meal from start to finish was incredible. The presentation of our meal was as awesome as the food tasted. We will definately go back again for another special occassion.
As with all Killens restaurants, the wet aged ribeye was amazing, as were the a la carte sides and the desserts. My wife got the chicken fried ribeye instead it was the best chicken fried items she had ever had. The green beans that came with it were a little salty, but had great flavor. Pork belly appetizer is it must.
Great Birthday and Anniversary celebration. Staff was awesome!
Excellent service. Appropriate social distancing. Food was perfect as always.
Couldn't recommend more, wonderful food and service. The dishes they serve are not something that you could get at 95% of the restaurants in, Houston. I'd advise saving room for dessert, the best carrot cake I've ever had...Kind of a sin to call it just carrot cake. We'll be back.
Dinner night with the family.
Our favorite restaurant in Houston. Food is spectacular, service is impeccable, we just love everything about STQ.
Outstanding experience. Everything was very tasty. Service was great as well.
Great service and outstanding food. Had short ribs and snapper both were excellent. Bacon Tres Lech breadb pudding for good and carrot cake was mind blowing. Brisket mac and cheese was good. Would highly recommend. We went at 5:30 which was early but offered a quiet dinner. Can't wait to take the rest of the family.
Service was too as well as the food ! We always receive special attention each time we dine . Love the food , chefs and staff ! A must visit if you have not had an opportunity!
On our most recent trip, we had a guys’ night out with 5 of us on a Friday evening. Anthony was our server and took perfect care of us. The food is hard to beat, and the setting is perfect for a culinary-focused experience. If you want to spoil a date or impress your in-laws, there are swankier places to go in Houston, but if what you’re looking for is great food, you can’t miss this place! If I was okay with being 400 lbs and flat broke, you’d find me here 5 nights a week.
Tasty! This is our second visit and STQ did not disappoint!
We will be back!
I have been interested in checking out STQ ever since I saw it had opened. I was not disappointed. I made a reservation to celebrate our anniversary and we arrived a few minutes early and were seated and our server came and welcomed us. He made several recommendations to start our meal and we took his reccomendation and ordered the glazed/smoked pork belly. This was amazing! The glaze had just enough spice and the pork belly itself was cooked to perfection, crispy on outside and tender ond juicy inside.
As we looked at the entrees on the menu we decided to share a couple of entrees, the beef rib and the pork chop yaegersnitzel. When the server realized we were going to share these he suggested that he could ask that the food be plated on a large serving tray which would make it much more convenient to share! A great suggestion as well as a side dish of smoked Mac n Cheese! The Food was AMAZING!
We had left a couple of pieces of the pork belly and the server offered to package them up and suggested that we got an order of biscuits to enjoy with the pork belly later,, what could we say, but yes!!
The beef rib was yummy and the fried was was outstanding as well. We had enough of our entrees left to bring home enough for at least two more meals.
WE WILL BE BACK!! YUMMY!!
The steak didn't have much flavor. However, the sides and appetizers were the highlight of the evening.
Food and service excellent. Staff very cordial and attentive.
The cuisine at Killen's STQ is incomparable! Our absolute favorite place to dine. Hands down!
Consistent quality in food, service and and cleanliness
It was great. Felt safely spread out (coronavirus) but ambience was still good. Food was amazing. The staff were all exceptional.
One of our favorites! Glad you guys are back open.
Excellent food and amazing service. They made great recommendations!
I hate to say it but very average for a Killen's type experience. Waiter was nice but was both waiting on tables and bar tending. Brought the wrong drink once, my wife's steak was clearly well done and not medium and the chief sent it back and told the waiter that it was medium. Even the waiter agreed with us but said he had to follow the chiefs orders. I called the number to see if we could move our reservation up and after an hour of trying gave up. Food was good but experience was very average.
Absolutely one of HTX's best steakhouses! The food and preparations are interesting, the vibe is relaxed and welcoming. No old school white boy suit and tie vibes here. Just amazing food!
This steak house has the best dry aged steaks in town. I would recommend their dry aged steaks but everything on the menu is top quality food and service. Their appetizers are excellent and they have specials all of the time. They have one of the best stocked bars for Bourbon, Rye and Scotch in town if you line fine whiskey.
Food is always outstanding! Service is excellent. Waiters are consistent and always knowledgeable about offerings. They have never steered us wrong.
