Killen's of The Heights
The food at Killen's of the Heights is very good. Unfortunately, and tragically, the noise level in the restaurant is extreme, almost painful. This is the likely the nosiest restaurant we've ever experienced.
If you are at all sensitive to load noise I strongly recommend against dining here.
That said, we love the food and plan to enjoy takeout from here in the future.
Celebrated birthday with a group of friends - big portions, good food, great service. Definitely going back, splitting a plate next time!
This is the place for comfort food. Our party of 3 had the chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and fried shrimp. We had sides of collard greens and butter beans. We got an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and peach bread pudding for dessert. We decided that we have a new favorite place for chicken fried steak and bread pudding. Everything else was wonderful also - the butter beans were amazing if you like southern food. They apologized for the slow service (it was what we would expect for a busy restaurant on Friday night so really hadn't noticed) and comped us the coffee with the bread pudding. There were many other things on the menu that we wanted to try, so we will be back.
The only reason I knocked off a star is because it is too LOUD. the food and drinks are wonderful.
We really enjoyed celebrating my husband’s birthday here. The food & service were outstanding. The only downside is that the restaurant is really loud.
Very large portions so prepare to take home the leftovers. Wait staff was outstanding.
We were excited to try Killen’s with some friends before attending our first concert since the pandemic. Killen’s STQ is a favorite for us.
Upon being seated, we order a Diet Coke, two glasses of wine and a cocktail. They took over 20 minutes to bring us our drinks and were out of the first 4 glasses of wine one of our friends ordered. The server had no knowledge what they were out of so each trip would take 5 minutes.. go to the bar, inquire, come back and inform us of the bad news. Our friend eventually ended up ordering a cocktail so his first drink took 30+ minutes to arrive. The waiter offered no apologies, no solutions, and suggested we order our second round of drinks upon arrival of our first. On top or this, the cocktails were mediocre, at best. The food was okay. Largely under seasoned and little attention to detail. Nothing to write home about and certainly not worth our $200+ bill. As other reviewers mentioned, it is VERY loud. Overall, a very disappointing experience and don’t foresee us ever going back.
Food was great with huge portions. The wedge salad with fried bacon was to die for.... Chicken fried steak was enough for three people and the fried pork chops could have fed the table as well. The shrimp and catfish were both tasty however the french fries were a little soggy but that was our fault for not asking for crispy french fries. The manager checked on us multiple times very friendly and sociable. The waitstaff was stretched and sometimes it took a while to get refills on water and tea- but not a big issue.
Had visited in May and had not had a great experience; wanted to give them another chance with everything going on. I’m so glad we did. We were so impressed with the service of our waitress Mileya and the quality and taste of our food we will definitely be back. Celebrating a 30th wedding anniversary of friends we started with a few drinks, their cocktails were great, and appetizers of fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs- absolutely delicious. We tried the ranchers pie -a brisket take on shepherds pie, fried chicken. Bbq plate, catfish, spinach salad, huge and wonderful, peach bread pudding and carrot cake. All were excellent, bbq was Killens typical great taste, ranchers pie was to die for the brisket excellent, chicken very moist, catfish not greasy great taste. Both desserts were marvelous the carrot cake was warm and the best I’ve ever tasted, the bread pudding was excellent as well. The server was so personable and knew everything about all the killens other locations menus. She was fantastic, thanks Mileya (hope I’m spelling correctly). The only downside was the place is extremely noisy, no soft surfaces to absorb sound. Also noticed the managers checking on other tables but never came by ours. We found that odd, wanted to brag on how great our server had been. But these items were minor, overall 5 star experience, very satisfied.
Everything was amazing great food and drinks and energy one was attentive to our needs
Two complaints, it’s over priced. $10 for a side of mac n cheese is a little high. Secondly, the menu said “homemade chips”, which is false. They were straight out of a bag. I was very disappointed. However the food was great…. Minus the chips
The first time we ate there the food was extremely good. This time it was
so so. I guess due to be so busy. We can accept this.
I am a fan of everything RK does. I have dined in 4 of his restaurants (5 if you consider the original loc in Pearland). I had the crab cake. It was a C- at best: too much filler and the crab was fishy. I did not eat but half. The shrimp had not been properly veined. No excuse for that either.
Amazing place - food, staff and overall experience
Enjoyed our meal. Tried a couple of new (to us) entrees (pot pie and chicken fried steak). Both were good - portions are so large we could have shared, but now we have leftovers!
Matt was attentive without being intrusive and handled our unique requests well.
it is LOUD!! It is hard to have a conversation with anyone not sitting right beside you.
I think the service would be better if you could hear what the server is saying.
The food was OK. I had the chicken fried steak. I would give it a 2. it was overcooked and the gravy was extremely thin. It should be called soup not gravy.
This was my first visit to this location. Won't be back anytime soon
The four of us had Sunday Brunch. We were not aware that you can only order off the Sunday Brunch menu. If you arrive before 1 pm you are limited to just the brunch items. After 1 pm, some additional southern food items are available: fried chicken, chicken fried steak, pot pie etc. We ordered the chicken and waffles, eggs benedict, fried chicken and the chicken fried steak. Everything was fantastic and we will be coming back. Service was great. I would recommend reservations in advance.
3/4 people on the table ordered beer and it took forever
Food was served cold. One of the dishes was a BBQ plate and it was returned
Management and waiter advised of terrible entree temperature and the complaints were dismissed
Food and service was great!
Food & service was very good!
What a great restaurant. I really enjoyed all of the southern dishes from fried pork-chop to the chicken fried chicken. The deviled eggs, thick cut bacon were a hit! Will definitely come back again! Try the salty dog cocktail!
Portions were huge, food was delicious and we will definitely return because I want to try everything on the menu!!
Our fourth visit to Killen’s. Obviously, the food is great, but what puts this place on our “5-star list” is the impeccably friendly service. On this most recent visit, we were privileged to have Alec as our server. A bright and beautiful smile, knowledgeable of the menu offerings, prompt, efficient, and conversational. All of this adds up to a terrific experience!
Everything was so good. Service was great and food was good too.
Excellent service and food
Food was awesome and lots of it!
Food was spectacular!
The Mac and Cheese was bomb!!
This was the first time we had been there and won't be the last. It continues with the expected quality of a "Killens" restaurant. If you're on a diet, this may not be the place for you; I was a complete failure at trying to STOP eating their food before my plate was empty.
Good service. Great wedge salad, brisket & ribs were dry but flavorful. Sausage was tasty. I will go back to try the chicken fried chicken & spinach salad.
Asked for no gravy on the chicken fried chicken and got it any way so I had to wait for my entree. Mashed potatoes were dense according to 2 diners at our table. We got someone else’s ticket at checkout and the waiter had to renter order. Appetizers we wonderful, as was the peach bread pudding, but there was no coffee ready so desert was served without coffee. The coffee was great when we got it.
My first time to eat there, and I have to say, that was probably the best chicken fried steak I've ever eaten. The mashed potatoes and gravy were awesome, too. Will definitely be back. Everything on the menu looks delicious.
Greeted at the door by the host with a smile. Was seated and presented with a glass of refreshing cold water. Our waiter did any excellent job and the food was delicious!
Wow. Went here to celebrate my 30th. Food was fantastic and pony tail Matt was literally the beat server I have ever had ever. Such a wonderful experience!! A+++++++++
Food was great! Pork belly was so yummy and the CFS (large) was enough for 3-4 people. The only thing lacking was the wait it took to get food and drinks. It took 20- 30 minutes to get a cocktail after ordered. Hint: order 2 drinks at once if you plan on having another. I’m not sure if the kitchen and bar was lacking adequate staff or if there was another issue. Everything took forever! Don’t go there too hungry.
We had a good experience on a Friday nite. Service was great! Fried chicken, mac and cheese and bbq were all very good. Underseasoned mash potatoes, and very bland fried okra. We had to ask for a salt shaker and some Ranch dressing. Over all a good dinner. It is VERY loud in there, we had to shout most of the time.
Comfort food done quite well.
Everything was great except inadequate parking is a major issue.
We had a lovely evening celebrating a family birthday. Our only note - the place is way too loud to be comfortable and in fact loud enough that even though the food was spectacular we won't be going back.
When I click yes on the wouldI recommend - the yes is with a caveat warning them of the noise level.
Excellent spot. A greatest hits of all of his food.
