Japanese Pub

A type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks. They are casual places for after-work drinking. "Izakaya" entered the English language by 1987. It is a compound word consisting of "i" (to stay) and "sakaya" (sake shop), indicating that izakaya originated from sake shops that allowed customers to sit on the premises and drink.

I have now been to Kawa Ni twice and it’s definitely my favorite restaurant in Denver. We got the Samurai sale bombs, three piece Nama, edamame, Biang Biang chicken bao, kung pao karaage, cucumber salad, lamb dan dan, to share between 4 people and it was just slightly too much food but we wanted to try a bunch of things. The cocktails are also top notch, unique, well balanced and delicious. 10/10 reccomend dinner here!

i haven’t been that impressed with the overall denver restaurant scene the last few years. lots of hype, exorbitant prices and underwhelming food. kawa ni is not that. the food was fantastic. zero misses on 6 shared plates. we especially loved the portions for the raw plates. proper sashimi, not see-through thin slices of fish à la uchi. the cabbage salad was a zesty surprise. the only thing we all agreed could be better was the recommended matcha tiramisu. for us, the dessert was too heavy and the ratio of ladyfingers off with most of the parfait filled with buttercream. would be nicer with a lighter texture and more interesting components. the dessert offerings in general felt like a cuisine chef scrambling to offer a few sweet options vs. a dedicated in-house pastry chef.

The food was excellent, as was the service. However, it was SO loud from the talking diners that I had trouble hearing the server on numerous occasions & also my husband from across the small table (and I am not hard of hearing). One of the loudest restaurants I can recall being in. They do have some sound-absorbing panels on the ceiling but they need more/something else to bring down the ambient noise level.

This was my fifth time at this restaurant-our absolute favorite. Tristan waited on us again and it was one of the best experiences we have had in a restaurant. He was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive but not overbearing-simply stellar! The food was unlike any I have ever had. So incredible and the atmosphere was fantastic. Best bathrooms I have ever used-:) Try the Hamachi, the pork dumplings and don't leave without trying the spicy, cold, peanut sesame noodles. Thank you Tristan!

Very good food and a casual upbeat energy to the front dining area. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. There were plenty of gluten free options to choose from. Hamachi, curry onigiri, and broccoli goma were stand outs. Definitely worth visiting if you’ve never been. We will be back.
