Katharine Brasserie & Bar
Had a great experience and Francis was an awesome waiter and even gave us a tour of the Reynolds building. So cool!!! Will definitely come back. Great atmosphere!!!!
Food was delicious, but the service was very slow. The food was delicious, but there was a good 45 minutes between app and main. Chicken and tuna tartare were the favorites of the table.
This was early Sunday morning. The jazz band started and made a good vibe. We just had a simple egg and bacon and coffee. Really enjoyed the authentic decor .
Had to ding them on the food. Added grilled chicken to Ceaser Salad and it was over cooked.
Nice meal. Good service. Good value
We made reservations due to an ad that proclaimed "Crepe Day" at The Katherine. I was disappointed to discover only two selections of crepes: an appetizer and a dessert. I ended up with the Cheese Board(very good) and the Butcher's Block(very good) with the appetizer crepe. My wife had the Grilled Apple and Squash salad(good) and the appetizer crepe. Two glasses of wine, ice tea...$104.00...a little pricey for what we got.
Great place to impress someone. Everything on the menu is good, staff is knowledgeable and attentive. One caution: If you want your steak medium rare, order it medium. This has been consistent.
First time at The Katherine. Made reservations for a birthday dinner with my family. Everything was magical. There was something for everyone on the menu. Cocktails were unique and delicious. The raw oysters were amazing. Wonderful waitress. Great food and ambiance. Making plans to come back as soon as I can!
We loved our attendant. She made the right recommendations and great conversation to boot. Love love love
The Katharine had great food and service, but a bit overpriced.
We made a reservation for dinner but decided to eat at the bar. The hostess quickly greeted us to the bar for its lively ambiance. Our bartender was wonderful! Drinks are reasonable and he offered many options and tastings before ordering. We decided to eat on the bar menu for its smaller portions and actually the food was great! I ordered the wings with a choice of two sauces. Crispy fried in duck fat, o my! Delish! Ordered oysters that were freshly shucked at the bar. Good selection to choose from too. Over all, a pleasant and fun time! We decided to eat from now on at the bar with its great service, yummy bar food and fun experience!
Food was disappointing for such a great venue. Bouillabaisse was offered as Friday night special, and two of us ordered it. This is a traditional dish requiring 2 days or more of preparation, so I was excited to try it! Unfortunately it was not a slow-cooked broth at all, but more of a sauce in the bottom of the bowl with seafood over the top. The fish was good, but the dish was simply not a bouillabaisse! Disappointing
The food was just average and well below our expectations based on the menu prices. The location in the historic Reynolds Building was super cool, but the dining experience wasn’t as “classy” as expected. When one member of our party tried to order a burger, the waitress literally yelled back and forth from our table to the kitchen staff to see if they had any. We felt like we were in a cheap diner. Some staff members were very professional and nice, but overall we were disappointed. I hope they figure out the problems because otherwise, they’ll never make it. Not impressed and not planning to go back.
Fabulous four-course dinner on New Year’s Eve! Compliments to Chef Adam and to Natalie for excellent service, beautiful and relaxed setting and terrific service. The meal was delicious!!
Service was painfully slow. One dinner (fried chicken) was very good. The lamb pappardelle dish was bland and chewy. Salt and pepper helped but it was pretty dull.
The ambiance and location is always nice and the bar is excellent. The restaurant needs some attention though.
First visit to this sophisticated, yet comfortable space that’s open, while intimate. Steak tartare was outstanding. Monkfish special superb; my companion very much enjoyed the mussels. Service was good; noise- level okay. Overall, a fabulous evening- well worth our 30” drive. A delightful Sunday evening experience.
The restaurant was very inviting. I thought the menu was limited would like more selections in food choices as well as reasonably priced wines maybe some from the Yadkin Valley as we had done wineries in the area and several were outstanding including Jones van Dreble, Shadow Creek and Raylen.
My husband, brother-in-law, and I visited for Christmas Day brunch, and we were really pleased. The service was excellent, and the food was flavorful. I wish there had been more selection for meats, as I don't eat lamb, and many people can't eat ham; a beef option would have been great. The atmosphere was vibrant, but not too loud, and the hotel is beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We're planning on next year! (I wish I had gotten our server's name. He was THE BEST!)
On the ground floor of a Winston Salem architectural landmark, this is a favorite place for special occasions. As local residents, we have never stayed at the hotel, but I’m sure it’s nice, too. Katharine’s is surprisingly casual for the price point, and the food has always been delicious. The restaurant was especially busy for Christmas brunch, so our server seemed a little less attentive than usual. The poached salmon, btw, was fabulous!
A nice surprise for Christmas Eve. The food was interesting and good. A little salty.
Went to Katharine for Christmas Eve Dinner and was totally blown away. We got the roasted chicken and the pork chop, and both were stellar. The food was thoughtful, flavorful, cooked and seasoned perfectly - the chicken was one of the best things I've eaten all year. The cocktails were fun, the setting had a great art deco flair, and the whole vibe was welcoming. The service wasn't slow like some people have reviewed, but it was a little relaxed. That could be tightened up, but otherwise the whole experience was fantastic. Great spot for a date night, celebration, or special occasion.
Service excruciatingly slow. Noise level better. Love combo mad it a festive Christmas Eve.
NOTE: Valet parking is available.
Salmon was excellent, although I personally will order medium-well next time. Service was great (Francis).
My husband and I celebrated a birthday together and everything was absolutely perfect!!! I had the roast chicken, which was juicy and very tasty! The portions are very generous and pricing is competive. Cannot wait to go back!
Mussels were outstanding. Lamb pasta did not have much flavor according to my table mate. Service was off. Not sure why since they were not full.
Great choice in Winston Salem, NC.
Excellent food and service, high prices, annoying recorded music.
Service was slow and food was just average at best
I was simply expecting more. I thought there would be more of a wow factor and variety to the menu.
It was our first time here. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. Everything screamed of something special: the decor, the service, and the food. We keep talking about our dinner. It was exciting and the flavors were delightful.
Very impressed with wait staff and menu will be returning.
I want to love this place, and keep trying it, hoping it will get better, friends had told us to avoid it. But the menu sounds so much better than the execution—nothing was properly seasoned, the pastas arrived barely lukewarm, and none of the flavors in the salads or entrees lived up to the promise of the descriptions. On the plus side, it’s a good atmosphere, and the service was really great. Probably best as a place for drinks rather than dinner.
Had great raw oyster and the foods taste amazing! Highly recommend this place.
Really good food. I stay at this hotel a few times a year and always make sure to eat here.
Wonderful restaurant found on google. We were looking for a nice dinner nearby and found this place by Kimpton hotel. The service is 5 stars where the waitress and busboy were constantly refill out water glasses. The food was amazing except for my son’s steak frits where the steak was bit burn in the outside. My bouillaisse was delicious With nice pan sear fish, jumbo shrimps and some mussels, however it was lack of any sauce. My husband had a wonderful crunch roasted chicken entree. We had sorbet and cream Carmel with thyme infused plum. All delicious. I definitely would come back when we are back visit in the area.
Evening at the Kimpton for Anniversary
Food was creative and tasty without being too overbearing!
Excellent service along with a complimentary birthday champagne toast made for a perfect evening.
We had great service and were not constantly bothered with "How are we doing?"
Vina had the pork belly then the carbonara special with shrimp and I had 6 oysters (3 from VA and 3 from PEI; I prefer the PEI - saltier!) followed by the NY strip, all excellent!
We shared a flan for desert with cooked pear - wonderful.
All in all a great way to celebrate our 49th Anniversary.
Greg & Vina
Food was mediocre, service was excruciatingly slow. Do not recommend this place.
