Karstens is part of Denali Square, which is the heartbeat of the Holland America Denali Lodge. Asked for plain brisket sandwich for daughter. Came out with onions and bbq sauce. Explained she wanted just the brisket with nothing on it. Came back smothered in bbq sauce. She was very hungry and after more than 45 minutes got her brisket on a bun only. Manager was aware but kept blaming us for not ordering it correctly. No apologies. Daughter was even crying at one point. Very disappointed.

When in the area, restaurant options are few. This one is entirely mediocre. My cheeseburger had been cooked into a gray color and just slapped together. The salmon on my wife’s Cobb salad had the texture of a wooden plank. Grossly overcooked and inedible. For a $15 upcharge. Poor value for money and no professionalism or pride in the kitchen. All at a cost, with tip, of $100.

It took an hour before our appetizer was served and another hour before our main course. We never do get dessert as after 2 and a half hours we had a previous engagement so we left

The atmosphere and service were excellent. Sadly the food was not. After taking our order it was 1:30 until my wife’s dried up inedible salmon fillet was delivered without the requested green beans. After I further 15 minutes my steak hadn’t arrived so I can’t comment on whether they can cook a stake or not. So we left paying for only our drinks and we’re not going to go back.

The service was outstanding and the food almost as good. When chicken was left off a Cobb Salad and our salmon was too rare, our waiter couldn't have been more professional, attentive and helpful. He saved a situation that could have gone the other way!
