Since 1972, Kanki has been the Triangle’s favorite Japanese steakhouse and sushi house.
Located in West Durham on Mount Moriah Road, Kanki Durham serves up delicious hibachi lunches and dinners, sushi and much more.

Our Durham, NC Japanese restaurant is the only Kanki location with a To-Go number, and we make picking up take out orders fast and simple with designated parking spaces and an easily accessible “Take Out” door.

Kanki will only seat complete parties. Please have all your guests accounted for prior to seating. Incomplete parties must wait to be seated until all has arrived.

An 18% gratuity will be added to parties of 6 or more.

    Even though we had a reservation we had to wait about 20 minutes while we waited on an available chef. Once we were seated the service was great and our chef was personable and our food was good.

    Service was terrible. Got drinks after 15 minutes and never again. Everyone had empty drinks before the chef came to the table. He never returned to offer us refills or second orders from the bar.

    We went for dinner for my son’s birthday, as the chef started cooking at our table, he was not giving our son any of the food. Turns out his list did not have my son’s order & the waitress stated she put it down. The chef stated we should have told him what my son got but it is his responsibility to know what everyone is having. We spoke to the manager & she brought my sons order out after the fact, they bring him sherbet & they sang happy birthday, they also gave us 10% off. This was appreciated but still my son missed the whole experience of why we go to Kanki. Of all the people at the table, they messed up the birthday boys meal! We will not go back.

    We made reservations for a party of six to celebrate a couple of family birthdays on a Friday night. The two ladies at the hosting station were not very friendly and very non-communicative. Although we were on time for our reservation, we still had to wait about ten minutes and were not told anything about our status. We had to ask them two separate times what the hold up was or how much longer we would have to wait. Mind you, they were not very busy and there were plenty of open tables, not sure what the hold up was but neither host member openly communicated what was happening. We waited off to the side while they did nothing. Our waitress was just ok and rarely checked up on us. She disappeared for long periods of time which was annoying. We asked her for things and she forgot two different times and we would end up having to ask a separate employee (for example, we needed one more plate, needed more napkins, or needed more water). The only positive about our visit was our chef, MOZART!!! He. Was. Absolutely. Amazing.!!!!!! The best chef!!!! He turned our frown upside down and had us constantly entertained and laughing. He was such a joy and very energetic and you can tell he loves his job! The table next to us had such a boring chef who was barely interacting with his table so we were so glad to have gotten Mozart. I give him 1000/100 stars!

    Our chef was not very interested in actually creating the hibachi experience! He was quite blase about what he was doing and not at all entertaining. We were seeing all the other tables being entertained quite handsomely with lots of fun and fire which we have come to expect here. It was a disappointing day for sure.

    Our waiter was the worse. We knew that the wait time for a cook was lo g being they only had 3 last night was cool our cook was amazing. The waiter was slow and left us unattended for lo ng periods of time which made a good time not so good.
