Wonderful food and service
We sat outside at the sidewalk tables. A little noisy when big trucks go by but it did not take away from our wonderful dining experience. Innovative and well curated menu. Lots of vegetarian and seafood options.
Tables were spaced, staff was helpful, kachipuri-queso fundido mash up was killer
Kachka is always amazing! It's one of the best restaurants in Portland and one of my favorites.
Amazing dinner, excellent service. Don't skimp on the caviar and vodka.
We dined early evening and enjoyed the experience. We have experienced Kachkas a half dozen times over the past 3 years and always enjoyed the experience. They consistently provided unique and authentic ambience, service and cuisine. It is a delight!
Wonderful food—the mushroom tartare was a standout! Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive.
An amazing experience, they were very polite to our request for an indoor table with space for much food to be ordered. The meals came out well timed. The cocktails we tried were premium cocktails that were very well made. Infused vodkas were very fun to try. The food was amazing all around. The service was great from the host to the wait staff. All working together to create a seamless service experience. This place is a must go to and return restaurant. Parking is street or parking garage which is out of their hands but was quite easy to find.
We may not be able to travel during COVID but our tastebuds can! A wonderfully exotic menu (highlights: sour cherry dumplings, herring in a fur coat, a very alcoholic dessert tea that's lit on fire at your table) transports you to far away lands--guided to your destination by knowledgeable and friendly staff in Kachka's lovely new digs. Good on them for requiring proof of vaccination for in-house dining. Made the evening that much more enjoyable.
Great experience- food is amazing!! Wonderful service and drinks!
One of my favorites restaurants in the world, literally. Outside or in Portland. First time back in the city in two years and couldnt wait to have dinner here. Did not disappoint, staff were fun, food was great. World class
Always a great date night spot. Great food and wine made for a perfect evening!
Our server was terrific. She remembered me and my garlic allergy from a previous visit. I was very impressed with that.
The music was too loud for my taste. It caused the conversation level of others in our area to be quite loud and the four of us (in our 70’s) were unable to hear each other speak.
Our server made recommendations that we appreciated. The food was delicious.
Overall a fun hip experience.
My fiance and I had a great time in Kachka. The food was outstandingly delicious, and the service was flawless.
I was blown away by the vegan offerings at Kachka. Every single one was a home run and flavor-packed. The heirloom tomato salat was the favorite dish of the evening, but everything from the bread soda to the halva tea cookie to the pickled watermelon was delicious. This was the best dining experience I've had in a long time and I can't wait to go back. Will be recommending to all my plant-based friends. Спасибо to all the folks at Kachka!
Everything was wonderful. Looking forward to our next visit.
This place is absolutely UH MAZING.
The service, the vibe, the FOOD. The people. A beautiful experience. Thank you for being outstanding. The gift my wife wanted, beautiful meal, with our beautiful family.
One of Portland’s best! Kachka’s food is unique and so tasty! You won’t be disappointed!
Simply a wonderful place, the food, service, atmosphere were the best. The service is exceptional. I would go again to do it all over again, try new dishes and infused vodkas, yes even the titean as well as the sodas, If you don't go, you are missing a big happy suprise.
Food was absolutely wonderful and wait staff both capable and professional. The noise level (high, which is in fashion these days despite it's unfriendliness) and closeness is seating were the only complaints, sadly it doesn't feel safe to be so close to strangers anymore.
The only negative I can think of is that the menu hasn’t changed much since I’ve been here 3 or so years ago, but don’t fix what ain’t broke I suppose. I wouldn’t take too many risks in this economy for higher end dining in Portland, I am happy they have survived.
Someone who dined with my party said they didn’t know if they liked this place because the last person that brought them only ordered the charcuterie and pickle plate…
DON’T DO THAT.
I’m sure most people are smart enough to not order the only things you can also buy at Market of Choice.
Try the dumplings and the lamb tar-tar at least.
Excellent food, good ambience, easy parking, decent value, some really good veggie choices. Service could have been more attentive and for the four of us, the music was too loud.
Great food great service memorable experience
I try to stop here every trip to Portland. The horseradish vodka with meat if any kind is out of this world good. The Siberian Pelmeni’s are not to be missed. Outstanding
An absolute delight! We had the best time! The food, cocktails, and service were all a step above the rest!
Kachka is such a special experience regardless of you’re dining in, getting take out or are looking for some happy hour snacks or a larger meal. The staff is always very friendly and helpful with recommendations.
My husband and I went to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised with some champagne brought to us to celebrate with right away :) The food was out of this world and we will definitely visit again.
When people come to town and ask where to eat, Kachka is always on my list and it always delivers. It's fun and lively, and the food is outstanding. Don't miss the horseradish vodka, too!
Some of the best food I've had in Portland. Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion!
In an attempt to be fair, I'll split my review into 4 sections:
1. Unadulterated Russian stuff (okroshka, golubtsy, vodka) - spot-on, great taste (although not nearly enough sour cream for golubtsy, but it can be added). Excellent.
2. Russian "fusion" (shashlyk, lazy pelmeny, zakuski) - mostly well cooked/prepared; mostly good taste (or even excellent, in case of tamarind-based sauce instead of sour plum). House-cured salmon caviar was saltier than necessary; blintzes served with it are, of course, were an insult, but acceptable given the mostly non-Russian crowd (blintzes are supposed to be the size of a plate, not a silver dollar; taste was bland). So, mostly good/decent/acceptable.
3. Supposedly Russian (or rather, Caucasian - khachapury). The shape was correct, but everything else was wrong. The Mexican twist would have been acceptable had it only applied to the filling, but spicy/peppery dough is just completely antithetical to the Russian cuisine. Bread should be flavorful, but never spicy hot.
4. Tea and desserts. The menu correctly proclaims that Russian dinner must end with proper tea course, but where was the proper tea? Not a single selection of "regular" tea, only some fancy herbal concoctions. The apple baked for Rosh Hashanah was good, but the combo of Russian sweets was underwhelming, especially chocolate "potato" - far from true taste.
Overall, it was enjoyable, but not outstanding. It's unfortunate that Russian-speaking community in Portland is too small to support a more robust Russian menu.
Order the zakuski experience - you will not be disappointed.
First time to try Russian related cuisine & it was Great!
Miranda is a great asset to Kachka!
Food is unique and delicious. The service was great. Highly recommend fir a wonderful dining experience.
The food was amazing and the ambiance fit with the meal perfectly. The staff was great.
Best Russian food restaurant on the West Coast. Genuine atmosphere and very good vibes. Amazingly friendly service.
Delicious food. Enjoyed the American take on food from the former ussr.
Get the cold-plate tasting menu and order one to two hot dishes! The vodka flight is also a wonderful experience.
Great food, as always. So glad they are open. Mushroom tarte and sour cherry dumplings were highlights.
Fantastic food unlike anywhere else in Portland! Our favorites: mushroom tartare, herring under a fur coat, sprat buterbrodi, and tvorog vareniki. Great atmosphere--a wonderful place to go for a celebratory dinner.
Really great ambiance and decor. Open doors and windows made it feel safe. Great happy hour menu. Everything we had was delicious!
