We had a great meal at a lovely place. Thank you!
Lit in a way that was familial but lit
Love this. That's exactly the vibe.
I had tried Russian restaurants several times and decided Russian food just wasn't my thing. Kachka changed that for me. Food is awesome, service is awesome, and even price is reasonable when factoring in the quality. Can't wait to go back.
Your review makes us so happy! Thank you for sharing in our family's food and giving it another shot. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Modern take on Russian cuisine. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable. The best part is the staff. They are friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about their restaurant.
We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit! Thank you for the review, Andrew.
Great food, great ambiance, great service and loved the music. I look forward to going again when i next visit Portland!
Thanks so much for making us part of your trip to Portland!
Interesting menu, good food, but way too loud for normal conversation.
Great food, great service, cool ambiance
The food and drinks are awesome
So are you! Thank you for the review!
Kachka amazed us again with the quality of its food and beverages. This is the fifth time we return. We tried the special Hungarian-inspired langosh -- delicious (even though not the same as the favorite treat I remember eating while a child in Transylvania). A great idea to expand Kachka's geography with specials from Soviet satellite countries. We were sad to see that the pickled mushrooms were off the menu (the pickled green tomatoes paled in comparison). We were very positively surprised by how good the teas were. We recommend drinking tea alongside the infused vodka. The horseradish vodka remains our favorite. The pelmeni remain to-die-for. Yum! We cannot wait until our next visit.
Thank you so much for joining us, Beau! Don't worry, the pickled mushrooms will be back!
The food was all very good and the feel of the restaurant is great (music, decor, dinnerware, etc.). Our server was very short and dismissive of our group. In fact we asked twice for an item we ordered and never received it.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Service is very important to what we do at Kachka, and we are sorry to hear this wasn't your experience. We hope to see you again soon.
We had a great time on our anniversary at Kachka. It was Valentine's Day and was very busy, but I loved how we were not rushed and were encouraged to stay and keep enjoying our time. Food was fantastic as always.
Evan, thank you so much for celebrating with us! Happy Anniversary!
I highly recommend this place. The food is amazing, and the whole vibe is delightful.
Thanks for the support, Kelly!
Lovely restaurant. Many vegetarian options. The sour cherry vareniki were really great! Vodka flights are really fun.
Thank you for joining us! We appreciate the review and hope to see you again soon.
Maybe this is just Portland... but the service here is SO slow! The waitress would walk by our table multiple times as if she can’t see us waiting for her. It was strange. That said, I loved the cherry dumplings!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Expedient and thoughtful service is very important to us, and we're sorry this wasn't your experience. We hope to see you again soon!
The food as always is fantastic! The service quality really falls off as the restaurant gets busy, and the staff clearly just don’t pay much attention and are rushed. It took us some time just to get the waiter’s attention. The ambiance is forced and somewhat cheesy. But I’m comparing it to the original Kachinka, which has fantastic ambiance! Overall I recommend Kachka, but maybe just once to try the food. It is just simply not worth the expense and the ambiance to make it my regular to go place.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Our restaurant is filled with artifacts from Chef/Co-Owner Bonnie's family, reproductions of famous Russian paintings, and the facade of Baba Yaga's house -- we've put a lot of thought into the appearance of our restaurant! As for the expense, we source our ingredients thoughtfully and make just about everything from scratch, but if you're hoping to catch some great deals, join us for our daily Happy Hour from 4-6pm! Thank you.
Service was very slow, very long gaps of time between food. We had to ask about our food several times, and the waitstaff seemed irritated. We were brought dishes which we did not order on two occasions. Food was very tasty.
Service is very important to us at Kachka, and we are sorry to hear that this wasn't your experience. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback, which can only make us better. We hope to see you again soon.
Everything about Kachka is just lovely, I can’t say enough good things. Great staff, lovely atmosphere, intimate setting, unbelievable food and just and all-around fantastic place. Can’t wait to go back!!
Your support and review mean a lot to us! Thank you for visiting Kachka!
Great food, fun night out. I would recommend this place if you want something different.
Spacibo, Caro! We appreciate the review and hope to see you again soon.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Our server was so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Herring under a fur coat is my favorite!
We love the Herring too, Susan! Thank you so much for visiting us. We hope to see you again soon.
Absolutely amazing and everything was incredibly delicious!
Thank you for the stars. We appreciate you!
Food was m good, a bit spendy for what it was. A bit cramped and loud as well. Overall a 4 because of the food. Cabbage rolls were the best!
Hi Jessica! Thanks for visiting us. If you love a good deal, we offer a Happy Hour daily from 4-6pm featuring house classics like our dumplings, Moscow Mules, and even the Golubtsi (cabbage rolls)!
I’ve heard such wonderful things and while I appreciate some of the creative vision of the menu, I thought some things were excellent and other things felt a bit bland. The noise was pretty intense. I will return and would like to try some other things on the menu before I render a full judgment. Certainly worthy of a visit and experimenting with some of the creative dishes offered.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, Kerry. We hope to wow you on your next visit!
Exceptional food and excellent service. Kachka delivers in every category showing creativity and consistency in the recipes and presentation. There are so many dishes to rave about and I'm guessing on this menu, at least in my experience, there are no mistakes.
Rebecca, your support means so much to us! Spacibo! We hope to see you again soon.
One of the best, most unique lunch spots in PDX. #LeaveNoDumplingBehind
#LeaveNoDumplingBehind ? We're obsessed! Thanks Ian!
Service was a little slow and had an order hick up, but food was close to grandma's.
Thanks for joining us! We're happy to hear our family's recipes remind you of your family's.
The food as great as always. Too long waiting time on the main coarse.
Thank you for the review and the feedback. We hope to see you again soon!
Wow, how fantastic. I'd been hearing about Kachka for years, but wasn't sure if Russian good would be my thing. Well it is. Maybe one of my favorite things. The food was wonderful, and the staff were very helpful as we tried to decide between all the great choices.
Thank you so much for trying new things with us! We hope to see you again soon.
It was my daughter's birthday and I made a reservation weeks before for Saturday at 8pm. It was a big deal for us to come to a Russian restaurant (Kachka), since we are Russian and love Russian food. We were waiting our table more than one hour. It was really frustrating and we had plans already after the dinner, but we were late for it, since it took so much time to get a table for us. Also, when I got a check to pay for our orders their was food we didn't even order. I don't think I will ever come back to this place!
Hi Lisa. We are touched that you chose Kachka to celebrate your daughter's birthday with us, and we are sorry to hear that the experience did not deliver. Honoring reservation times is important to us, and we apologize that this wasn't your experience. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
Excellent service and food. Favorite restaurant to go go to visit with my friends.
Went there with a large group for my fiancé’s birthday. Everything was fantastic! She’s been celebrating her birthday at Kachka for the last 5 years there, will definitely be doing it again next year!
Thank you so much for celebrating with us! We look forward to seeing you again.
We have been to Kachka on many occasions an had wonderful dinners. On this night the restaurant had kitchen problems with their grill and several items were unavailable. Also when we ordered the poached pear dessert it took 40 minutes. This dining experience was disappointing. The staff should have been apologetic about the evening!
Thank you for your continued support. We apologize for the inconvenience of the grill, but more so, we regret that you left feeling like the staff didn't care. Service is key to what we do at Kachka, and the experience of our guests is something we absolutely care about. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and we hope to see you again soon.
Acoustic tiles on the ceiling would really help the noise level. $5 for bread & butter (ordered early & brought only at the end of the meal after THREE prompts) was an insult. The little things make a lot of difference. The big things you did get right!!!
Acoustic panels have been installed throughout our restaurant, including the ceiling--liveliness is part of the Kachka experience! Also, our breads and butter are made from scratch everyday with thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review--we hope to see you again soon.
We approached it between three of us as a tapas/ small plate kind of meal. We included the Dungeness crab/potato dish, smoked fish plate, pork kabobs, dumplings and pickled mushrooms. All food was excellent. I recommend their European imported porter ale, it was great. My wife had a horseradish martini which she liked but as she neared finishing it she was ready for a glass of wine instead. The taste while good was a bit overwhelming.
Hi Jeff! Our horseradish vodka is not for the faint of heart! Thank you so much for joining us for dinner--we appreciate the review and hope to see you again soon.
The menu looks very attractive on paper. Almost every dish tastes mediocre at best. When the best tasting dish of the dinner was pelmeni (which it takes 10 min to make in your own kitchen), it speaks for itself. Borsch was absolutely tasteless, probably the broth was cooked without bones. Most of entrees were over-salted. The best feature is getting as much vodka as you wish in a decanter without having to order each shot.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We hope in the future that you'll notify your server if you do not enjoy a dish so that we can make it right while you're still in the building. .
Excellent and very authentic Russian menu. The caviar service was wonderful and very affordable. Will definitely go again.
Thanks so much for joining us, Allan! We look forward to seeing you again.
Dining in Baba Yaga's patio. Russian tapas: fabulous smoked fish options including roe if desired; light pungent dumplings classic or fried; lamb skewers and a rabbit leg and thigh braised in a thick tangy sauce. A lot of mayonnaise. Vegetables rarely seen. Euro techno pop background. Nice bar. A little pricey but nice service. Will be back after a while.
I’ve been here before and the service in the past was impeccable. In this case, 6 of us arrived over 15 minutes. The first couple git drinks quickly; it took more than 10 minutes for a sever to show up for the next four. Awkward when entertaining; drinks were off sequence and the server didn’t get us back in sequence.
In fact, it was clear they weren’t attuned to us. They were busy elsewhere.
Drinks straggled in based on lung periods of time between server visits. When we finally order the $30/ head cold curated adventure, we also ordered hot food. Cold stuff came in relatively rapid and successful succession. Hots came out staggered after a long drinkless wait.
Some of the hot food was 20 minutes apart. We actually cancelled the last two.
The staff were wonderful, but the service was a huge swing and a miss! I’m not sure I’d risk it again.
I love this place. I might go there on my own but hosting a group... no so much. This is a unique experience, the food is unusual, if the service doesn’t flow, home run turns into something else.
We absolutely agree that timing and service are key to any dining experience. We are sorry to hear you didn't feel attuned to, and hope you know that we appreciate your support. Next time we hope to blow you away with great service. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review!
The sour cherry dumplings are amazing, I’ve never eaten anything like them and will be back for more!
We're so happy you enjoyed our handmade dumplings! Thanks for joining us.
Amazing food, amazing service! Had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this place to anyone!
Thanks so much for joining us, Nichole! We appreciate the endorsement!
The food was amazing. We went with a large group of people and ate family style. Everything on the menu is spectacular.
Thank you so much for the review! We appreciate the support and hope to see you again soon.
