Contemporary American
Juniper and Ivy, owned by Michael Rosen with influence from Chef-Partner Richard Blais, elevated the San Diego dining scene upon opening in early 2014. Located in the north end of the Little Italy neighborhood, Juniper and Ivy offers refined American cuisine with unique iterations of the classics. The whimsical menu, executed by Executive Chef Anthony Wells, is in a constant state of change depending on the freshest, seasonal ingredients provided by our local purveyors.

Food was way too overpriced for what we got. For a group of 8 girls, a $700 bill is a bit much when each of us only had a few small bites of dishes. Also, seasoning missing in many items. Cocktail menu is super limited and not impressive. Ambiance was good though - nice throwback music.

Took my mother and aunt here while they were in town visiting for my baby shower; the service was EXCELLENT! I wish I could remember our server's name, but she was amazing. My mother has an allergy to shellfish, and she came back with another menu that had all dishes with any shellfish in it crossed out so she could make a decision that wouldn't affect her allergy. You can't ask for better service than that! The entire experience was DELICIOUS! I couldn't partake in the cocktails, but everyone was super happy with their selection and I think my husband had the best Manhattan he's ever had :) My mother and aunt split the duck, and since we have all grown up on duck dishes, the bar was set pretty high, but the chefs nailed it!

My only gripe was the chairs were not that comfortable for my eight month pregnancy, and we were not able to be accommodated with a booth that I requested when I made the reservation. There was a booth that was open the entire meal too, so that didn't make me happy, but overall, we were so thrilled. J&I is one of my go-to restaurants and will continue to be!

I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary and everything was great, they brought us a couple of drinks for free as well as desert which was very nice of them to do. They had a nice variety of food and everything we ordered was delicious. The only constrictive criticism I have was with the ravioli dish, it was undercooked by probably 5 minutes or so but other than that the flavor was on point. Highly recommend this place and definitely will be back myself

So glad we chose Juniper & Ivy as the restaurant to have dinner with my future in-laws. We’ve heard all amazing reviews and it definitely exceeding our expectations. A 6pm reservation was perfect. The ambience was hip and upscale. Our server, Zack was knowledgeable, kind and genuinely enthusiastic. The Tuna Wellington and Duck were a must! The Carne Cruda Asada Toast and Spot Prawns were divine. Every dish had an amazing combination of texture and flavor and was beautifully presented. My favorite cocktail was the “Brunch With The In Laws”. We will definitely travel from Seattle again to return to Juniper & Ivy... if only we didn’t fly out so early this trip, we would’ve visited The Crack Shack next door for brunch!

Excellent eatery. Excellent service but expensive. Limited choice on the entree, but menu changed frequently. Long wait for the duck dish, 1 hr. Recommend to try out smaller plates rather than to order for one entree each. Yodel is the signature dessert, but did not find spectacular, except the presentation. Reservation required.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday as he had mentioned several times wanting to try it.
Pros: Good table service, good appetizers, nice interior. My boyfriend loved the bone marrow and we also really liked the white aspaagus.
Cons: Very noisy and at times we could not hear each other or the server. We arrived 15 minutes early to our 8pm reservation and weren't seated until 8:15 even though many people who arrived after us were seated before us. The pineapple puree under the arancini was off and the sweet chutney on the cod dish overpowered all of the other flavors. The wine list was very pricey for bottles.
Not a bad meal overall, but did not live up to the hype.

We had a great meal! My three friends and I ordered 7 small plates and shared. We loved everything! Service and ambience were great! The dessert was also amazing! We will be back again!

Food is amazing, lives up to the reputation and then some. Sitting outside is lovely, but we did find conversation gets interrupted as we are (as warned by the restaurant) on the flight path to the Airport.

Attentive, friendly service from every point of contact (they really have good team work and genuine-seeming positive attitudes). I ordered two bites (loved that little tostada) and four small plates all for myself (I was hungry), and every bite of food I ate was good to amazing. The “deviled egg” amuse unexpectedly hit the spot. Vibrant fun space but somehow not too loud. I’m 100% impressed. It’s not cheap, but I still consider it to be a good value because it delivered nothing short of right-on from the greeting through each course, to perfect timing. If I lived in San Diego this would be on my repeat list for sure (I’m from LA & SF). Thanks for a great meal.

Salty. Saltyyyyyyy. If ambience is your first dining priority, this is your spot. The menu is filled with elaborate adjectives and hefty price tags that may convince an unsuspecting customer that they are purchasing a five star meal. The service was lovely and the sourdough bread with black garlic butter was tasty. Everything else we tried was too salty to enjoy. Also sparkling water costs $7.

Our anniversary celebration. We love sitting at the chef’s bar. Really exceptional service and food. Standouts this time we’re the TJ bun, egg yolk raviolo, bone marrow with crispy tendon and a gratis dessert for our anniversary, oatmeal cookie cinnamon ice cream sandwich.

Despite a reservation, the host team had us cool our heels in the bar for 10 minutes before seating us. They seemed confused and disoriented. After seating, wait person initially seemed superb. Guided us through selections and pointed us to popular dishes. As the room began to fill up, however, he became less available. In a sense, this is totally understandable--they got busy. On the other hand, he found time to hang out in the bar area with the other wait staff who similarly, despite a full house, found time to lounge together. We truly enjoyed all dishes except the house specialty, tuna Wellington. If you are going to go to the trouble of obtaining "fresh, local tuna", why obscure a magnificent fish with a weird collection of incongruous tastes. Likely the kitchen saves the less-fresh cuts (think 'day-old bread') for this preparation, because it would be truly tragic to bake really fresh yellow fin or blue fin into a pastry. But then, don't charge $42 for it!

I would travel across the country to go to Juniper the seasonal, local menu is inspired and the staff is knowledgeable and solicitous. A perfect restaurant for a special night.

We tried a lot of things and almost all was excellent. The Duck for two however was a bit of a disappointment, good but not $79 good. Service was outstanding. Because I was late reserving we were seated outside, entirely my fault. That said, at end of March it was windy, a bit cool even with the heaters on, and lots of noise from planes landing and the trains. We will go back, but only if we can get an inside table.
