Unique building with fantastic architectural features.
Food and service excellent, could be a bit quieter.
Perfect for a wonderful quiet meal for lunch on a Saturday, almost a private dining experience.
It was such a treat to be in not only an historic place (the Julia Morgan designed Berkeley City Club from 1929) but to be in a "real" restaurant environment (table cloths, candles, nice wait staff, soft music and very delicious dining with dishes that were both classic and inventive and a French Chef. It's a throwback of the very best kind. We also had lunch there and the sunlight streaming in the windows during the day was nice too, And lunch seemed an especially good value. We are talking about going once a month to have this experience on a regular basis.
Quietest place to dine in Berkeley. Excellent ambience.
First time dining at Julia's altho' I live nearby. Excellent service with beautifully presented and prepared food. Servings not overwhelming but filling. The elegant but unfussy interiors of Julia Morgan's architecture is calming and soothing. Service was excellent - prompt, attentive but not bothersome. Tables spaced far apart in spacious dining area; no need to worry about fellow diners being too close. I will definitely return ...and soon.
Beautiful special, old fashioned experience, we all loved it
Love the room and service was good. Food had potential but was significantly under spiced and salted. Not up to previous meals we have had there.
Julia's is one of a kind. If you have never been there. You should make a reservation and go there for a wonderful dining experience.
Excellent in every way. An absolute gem with a great chef and wonderful staff.
Chef Marcon uses the freshest ingredients he can get. Delicious dinner.
Beautiful setting and delicious food. Well worth the visit to experience Old Berkeley.
The terrace setting, lovely service, and absolutely top quality French menu all created an idyllic lunch!
Food was fabulous! Service was excellent! Unfortunately, there was a Very Loud party down the hallway. 100-200 people dancing and screaming with extremely loud DJ music throughout our entire dinner. They didn't even close the doors to help mitigate the sound. I could barely hear my husband as we tried to converse during our meal. I don't think we will go there again.
Building is near Berkeley university. Some of the experience getting there was visually sad w/ homeless in tents and all. The building is notable with its great 1800 structure. Lunch menu put us not inside with the buildings beauty but on a sad cement tented area. Menu lacked any choices of flavor for a veggie diet. Quiche was dry and severed with dry French fries. Burrata cheese was great as an appie. Service person was delightful... Wish we could have been seated inside with the old features not the sad outside surrounding buildings near campus. Not going back.
Very nice restaurant that doesn't seat a lot of people which makes it feel special. Wait staff were very helpful and always available. The food was delicious and the portions were surprisingly generous. Walk around the amazing Julia Morgan building and check out the pool.
We are members of the City Club so eat there frequently. Last night, after I ordered the steak medium rare, it came gray all the way through. After a second try, it was barely pink and the potatoes came back cold. I was very disappointed in the main course. The service, however was excellent and our waitress did her best to accommodate my disappointment. Based on this experience, I would not recommend the restaurant, although this is the first time I have been disappointed in the food.
Service is always attentive and timely. Food is very good. And the restaurant location feels like a old world elegant dining room
Both fish dishes were creative, nice presentation, tasty.
The restaurant was amazing! You have to go if you have never been.
Beautiful architecture, staff was great and the food was delicious. Recommend the duck! Wow. Best meal out in a long time.
Julia’s is one of the outstanding
Dining experiences in the Bay Area!
The sauces that Chef Marcon prepared were especially delicious.
The setting is beautiful and calming. The tables are far apart and the
staff are very careful with precautions. A great choice in these troubled
Food was excellent, both fish dishes had the perfect sauce. Ceviche was so good.
Open terrace lunch was wonderful, delicious, and above all safe for everyone!
Fresh ingredients. Simple prep and presentation. Friendly and competent service. Very limited menu on Wed evening but still enough variety. Very pleasant experience in an architectural gem. Not your average dinner out.
We started out with the tomato, carrot and corn soup and our entree was the wild salmon entree with fresh tomatoes and cooked green beans. To say the least the meal was delicious. The service was impeccible and eating on the outside terrace was a lovely treat.
Absolutely enjoyed the food, service and the ambience, excellent value for a very fine evening eat -out with the love one !
Wonderful French food from a classically trained French born chef. Hard to find this type of food today. Good prices.
It feels like the place is just getting its bearings back after a long COVID isolation. New staff (at least to us), somewhat under-experienced, but very well-intended and make up for any lacks with great attitude. The food was surprisingly so-so: things were rather bland. Perhaps that was us. But, again, compared to pre-COVID, we were disappointed. The ambience is elegant and quiet and so I would go there even just for that, and hope things bump up to previous levels.
We had lunch on the Terrace of this beautiful historic building. The food was excellent and service exemplary.
Food delicious and nice outdoor setting. The service was friendly by a bit slow and amateurish. She never refilled our wine glasses and never asked if we wanted dessert.
the food continues to be fabulous but the service is a bit slow; felt safe at the urban picnic with lots of space between tables. will continue to be patrons there.
Delicious food and beautiful building. Definitely recommend
Best duck breast I have ever had in a restaurant.
Lassen fish lacked flavor ; I think a sauce accompanying it may have been forgotten by the server. The salad was perfect !
Food was very tasty. Portions were adequate. Waitress was pleasant & very helpful in dish selections. Her service added to the dinner's ambiance. Tables were sufficiently spaced apart. I appreciated them adding a birthday candle with the dessert.
The outdoor picnic dinner at Julia's is socially distanced, with a limited menu. The atmosphere is pleasant (Berkeley City Club upper terrace) and the food is very good. It can be chilly of a Berkeley evening.
Amazing in every way! Great service, great food, great location
First time back since start of the pandemic. Delighted to see some old friends and to find the excellent fare still excellent.
