About Juju Durham
Juju is the exciting sister restaurant to Chapel Hill’s acclaimed Jujube, launched by local restaurateurs Julian Benfey and Charlie Deal, the award-winning chef behind Jujube and Durham’s Dos Perros. Located on Ninth St. near Duke University’s East Campus, Juju is the luckiest place in town to be, for anything from an early bite to a fun evening late into the night.
Juju serves up small plates with bold flavors, each prepared creatively with attention to tradition, whimsy, local integrity, and, of course, deliciousness. In addition to its extensive and delicious menu, Juju features a dynamic beverage program of hand-made cocktails, extensive Sake selections and a well-chosen list of artisan wines and craft beers.
Dine at the exquisite bar, in the luxurious booths, in the main dining room, or around the fire pit on the patio. Make a meal from small plates or order a whole Peking duck to share with friends.

Juju Durham Ratings and Reviews
Have been to Juju for lunch before. Went there for a dad - daughter (9) date night. We both enjoyed the food - which lived up to the Asian-fusion Tapas billing. The pork-belly dumplings were a stand-out but all of the food was delicious. Emma, our server, was very helpful and attentive, throughout our adventure. A great experience
It is so much fun to eat here. This is our second visit in two weeks. The cauliflower and brussel sprouts are both great. The salmon sushi is my favorite. The Hibiki whiskey is very good. The tuna poke bowl is also delicious. It is a bit pricey but very healthy and fresh and delicious food.
Overall we really enjoyed the experience and the food and will be returning next week to try other very interesting menu items. Most of the items we ordered were basically "make your own sushi" and these were delicious and fresh. The Salmon and avocado dish was my favorite but our table overall liked the Poke bowl with tuna. These dishes come with sushi wraps and very good sauces to make your own sushi at the table. The Duck fat rice was delicious but very rich, only needed a few bites. Our table loved the dumplings but they needed some vegetable dumplings and more vegetarian choices. Two desserts we shared, the sorbets and pot de creme were delicious. Overall a very good and healthy meal at a fair price.
Came for a birthday with a large party. Food and drink were phenomenal! Service was excellent - attentive yet not constantly hanging around. Somewhat noisy since it was a busy time, but easy to hear conversation and no loud music. Overall fantastic and I would definitely recommend & come back for a special occasion!
We ate at JuJu on a Saturday evening before a concert at DPAC. It was my second visit, and a friend from out of town's first visit, both to JuJu and to the Durham area. To say it set the tone for the trip is putting it mildly! Our server was fantastic, the food was amazing, and desserts beyond incredible. This is going to end up becoming a go to!
The staff were really nice. Our server was very knowledgable. We asked a lot of questions :) The wine I had was very good. Vegan dumplings were good as well as the Brussels sprouts. I had the vegetable entree, and it was a bit saltier than I like-in a good bit of sauce so I wished I had picked a different entree. The other thing was literally everyone’s main dish arrived at different times-a good 15 mins from the first person being served to the last person (me) being served. I will go back for lunch, and it would be a fun spot to stop in for a drink with friends and just have a few appetizers.
Overall this was a good experience. Unfortunately, some of the meals were not cooked well. Half of the ribs were nice and tender, and the other half were tough and unchewable. The drinks from the bar were absolutely delicious. They also ran out of dessert, although I can't complain too much because I didn't order it until the kitchen almost closed.
My friends from Raleigh met me (I live in Hillsborough) at Juju because it was central to us all. We sat outside and just LOVED the ambiance as well as the food! It was an all around great dining experience - excellent food, great service and good beverages. I definitely recommend it for diners near and far!
My team and I found the food and place great however the service wasn't entirely pleasant. We felt that the waitress was very distracted and probably needed from some time away from her duties. The waitress was nice and we were treated in a nice manner but we felt that the waitress didn't want to be at work and service manner was very distracting.
JuJu is an odd place. It's great for exploring Asian fusion. Some of our meal was exceptional: the spicy tuna and the crispy wonton short ribs. Other parts were good but strange: the brussel sprouts. Yet other parts were just plain weird. I don't think we'll be back. But if you're up for exploration, this might fit the bill. However, if you're up for Japanese exploration Msushi is a better bet. Although weird takes on traditional sushi, the end results are much more appetizing.
I was in town visiting and decided to try this place out. I made the reservation for 7 people but another friend decided to join the day of and the host was very accommodating when I called to add another chair. We arrived at about 9:15pm and the restaurant was surprisingly more empty than I had expected. We were seated by a window so we were able to see out into their patio and I loved how they had fire pits by the tables to keep you warm if you wanted to dine outside. We decided to share everything, so we ate family style. The service was wonderful and very attentive. I loved the bathroom and how they offer Bobby pins, floss and qtips! I wasn't a fan of the braised beef short rib wontons only because it was topped with creamed chevre and I'm not a huge fan of goat cheese. I enjoyed the taste of the sautéed NC shrimp, but wasn't very fond of the smell (I could be wrong, but I think the smell was because of the fish sauce?). My absolute favorite dish had to be the Steamed BBQ Kurobuta Pork Belly Dumplings and the Fried Chicken Steamed Buns. The shaking beef, Sichuan style chicken, and hickory smoked pork ribs were also delicious. We also ordered the calamari, but I didn't really care for it. I enjoyed the ambiance and the huge bar in the middle of the restaurant, so I'll be back to try their cocktails and hopefully enjoy the fire pits outside next time.
Great place to eat. Menu changes slowly but it is ample. Dessert is spectacular, especially for an asian fusion restaurant. Very loud at times but service is extremely fast and the kitchen is quick too. My only suggestion - I'd love to see a couple of soups on the menu.
Juju was great. Evan was a great waitress with many accurate and appropriate recommendations. Wonderful selection of small plates. Everything beautifully plated. Many pure gluten free options and they can make adjustments to dishes to make them gluten free.
We were taking some of the spicy tuna home when we saw that it was not purely gluten free with the unagi sauce. They offered to give us another serving --- gluten free. Great customer service! We will be returning soon.
The triangle has several great Asian "fusion" restaurants: Element, Garland, Jujube, Lantern, Bida Manda, Brewery Bhivana, and JuJu. A fun place to dine with a creative and interesting menu. I had the short rib wontons and a scallop dish that was over the top. My wife had the cauliflower appetizer and the shaking beef. All were outstanding. The wait staff was helpful in explaining some of the more unusual items. We have eaten at JuJu several times and continue to explore the menu.
I love Juju. I eaten at Juju a handful of times now and it never disappoints. The food is delicious and there are many dishes that I have yet to try. The beef short rib wontons and the spicy tuna over crisped rice are my absolute favorites, so much so that we ordered a second serving of the latter the other night. In addition, our server was fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. Although it is a little loud in the restaurant and it can be difficult to hear the conversation at one's own table, the atmosphere is energetic and upbeat. I look forward to going back many times in the future.
