Juan Tequila Bar & Restaurant
The space is unique to San Diego, feeling almost New York City like. Chandeliers, Club leather furniture, marble table tops, cocktails that, though, called tiki, are not really the tiki you would imagine.
The cocktails are met with a menu mostly unfamiliar to San Diego. Baja California is where Baja meets San Diego. In a time and place where we need to spotlight it most. Relying on ancient and modern techniques and cross-border ingredients with a nuevo approach to menu delivery, the culinary story will highlight oysters, seafare from baja and produce highlighting the southern california region, including foraged ingredients.
Juan tequila is located in the Gaslamp. We are proud of the story we are telling and the team we have built to make this happen.
Welcome to Juan Tequila. Straight Up Classy™
Great atmosphere and lovely and attentive staff. Food was also delicious. The live music was also definitely a treat. Would recommend to anyone who finds them self in San Diego.
It was good service w a feee tequila shot for our birthday girl . The ceviche and guacamole was really good! Tacos decent Z only complaint is the smoke occasionally coming out from top
Food was good, service was slow but the biggest issue was the seating. Hip cocktail tables with no back bar stool, very uncomfortable.
Great food and Latin music.
Band was a little loud, but good music. Taco Tuesday deal was fantastic and totally worth the noise
We made reservations here here thinking it was a different place but decided to stay even though they had no record or idea a reservation had been made. The decor is nice but the vibe felt more like a want to be Miami night club with a live DJ & a handful of young people being loud & drinking (at 5:30 on a Sunday night). They do have a huge tequila selection but I ordered a simple strawberry house margarita & they were out of strawberries so opted for passion fruit. There was nothing spectacular about the drinks - pretty typical. The server didn’t seem to know the level of spiciness I’d the dishes & even after asking the kitchen didn’t clarify much. As someone who doesn’t do spice (but hubby does) let’s just say there is nothing we had that was “mild”. The chips & salsa were spicy - even for my husband. We ordered the octopus & potato appetizer which was good but it was literally 4-5 small bites of octopus & probably 15 mini potatoes. The tacos we got were good & hubby said the rice was nose-wateringly spicy.
Overall not a bad place but with all the other options in the area, not someplace I personally would go back to.
Because of tgelive music and general acoustics, I wouldn't recommend this for a dinner you want to talk through at moderate voices. BUT: we had a fun time regardless, the food and cocktails were REALLY GREAT, and the staff did their utmost to give us a good time. So yes: highly recommended!!!
Had a great meal and fabulous margaritas at Juan’s Tequila Bar. The quality of the food was great and the tequila selection is incredibly large. Had a taste of Nosotros Blanco and Reposado. Both were very smooth and enjoyable. Learned a lot about tequila from the very knowledgeable and friendly owner. This was our first visit to the Gaslamp area and we will definitely make Juan’s Tequila Bar & Restaurant our go to place when we visit San Diego again. Happy diners from Ohio!! Don’t miss this gem on 4th.
What a unique little place. The staff was very helpful in making our selections. I'll definitely go back there when I am in San Diego.
Enjoyed our meal and very pleasant atmosphere. Had tacos, they were great! Finished the meal with their homemade flan, that was outstanding! Good evening
Juan Tequila Bar had a great vibe. Our server, Bonnie, was super friendly, knowledgeable and very concerned about our experience. Every dish was excellent and the craft cocktails were perfectly mixed and balanced. I'd recommend this to anyone!
The food and drinks here were AMAZING!! I was pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly and I highly recommend the fish tacos and their paloma!
Everything was excellent. The service outstanding, their vegan options are amazing and the ambience with the live music couldn’t be better. I really recommended.
We had tacos de papa! 😉
The mushrooms al mezcal are insanely good! Music was spot on and my favorite drink was "you know the words"
Bartender was extremely knowledgeable and really nice. Learned a lot about the tequila we were drinking and he made some excellent suggestions. If I lived in SD, this would be my go to spot.
Joe was amazing! We will be back! The drinks were delicious!
It was a bad night for the servers obviously. Although they were very nice, they failed to serve us everything we had ordered the first time without a reminder. They were unable to make a Cadillac margarita since they don’t stock Grand Marnier. And when the check came, the tacos hadn’t been discounted at half price for taco Tuesday.
The food was tapas style. This is not a Mexican restaurant.
We probably won’t be back.
Very Enjoyable atmosphere with great music playing on the 2nd floor balcony. Food is tasty and the drinks are a treat. I will be coming back
Cocktails are the best in Gaslamp by far! Food is really good too! I am often eating downtown and this new place is now my favorite.
I‘ve had the Pork Belly Taquitos and that was the best plate I could ever asked for. Then they recommended the Hongos al Mezcal which were delicious and I finally ordered Camarones Juan Tequila. Food was great and cocktails outstanding! Go to this place!!
Food very bad. Plates came different time. Not Mexican food.
Fun vibe! Decor very hip!
The live guitarist was FANTASTIC! Mostly instrumental music.....they could turn the volume down slightly as we had hard time hearing each other talking.
Food was unique and delicious!
The cocktails were great but the food was very salty and the service was slow .
Great food and drinks. Service was kind of slow considering it was not busy. Would recommend trying for the food and drinks
Excellent selection of Mezcals in a cool downtown atmosphere. A smaller venue, but still very comfortable. They are new, so when I asked for a menu of drinks, I was given a list with about 10-15 pages of alcohol, but none of it had prices. I'm sure they will fix this in the near future, because who needs a random price order that could cost me who knows what??
The drinks were really good, but our food was super salty.
The cocktails Ive tried are too good. The menu is creative, really recomend their mussels con chorizo and the conejo tamales. I had a good time, the place looks great and the staff took care of us well even though it was busy.
Obe Juan Kenobi margarita was quite good, but meal went downhill from there.
The rabbit seemed deep fried, rather than braised and I found no saddle- just leg. Masa cakes were cold.
Caesar salad served with over charred but cold shrimp and greens and dressing that didn’t taste like Caesar.
Humboldt County oysters were probably fine, but were served after the fried rabbit, so my enthusiasm was diminished.
Duck chilaquiles seemed to be served on a bed of bagged blue corn chips.
The place looked great, hope they can work out the food issues.
Lovely new place! Definitely worth checking it out
