I never do reviews but this place is a joke. I ordered a $58 steak it was poor quality. Mashed potatoes tastes like butter. Nasty. Mac n cheese noodles were hard. Clam chowder is like Gumbo style. Yuck. We had a couple of bites of each thing. And paid the bill. The waiter was cool and I think felt bad for us when he saw our faces at the end of this ordeal.
It’s the first time in my life that I went and ate dinner after going to dinner.
Before COVID we often used to go to JRDN. It's a great location especially at sunset. The new menu includes a lot of appetizer type items and not so many main courses. Our food was nice but not outstanding. The wine list is good. Service is good.
As a single older woman diner, I am accustomed to feeling like the last choice for the best table when I dine out. However, I am pleased to report that JRDN made me feel special from the minute I walked up to the hostess stand. They seated me right away at a very nice ocean-view table. The server was attentive, pleasant and made all the right suggestions. All in all, I was very pleased and will return when I'm back in town in three weeks!
We had a reservation for 7:00, but it was extremely busy so we weren’t seated until close to 7:30, which wasn’t awesome, but not horrible either. We had requested patio dining and we were seated on a patio, not the main patio but more of an outside room. It still had a view of the ocean, but didn’t have the same vibe as the main patio. Again, not awesome, but not horrible either.
The server was sweet and friendly. She was also a little forgetful and maybe new. But let emphasize, she was lovely and sweet.
The food was amazing, worth the wait, the so so seating and the forgotten glass of wine ;)
Amazing food, good service, beautiful setting.
Excellent. Will return.
Interesting menu, in a good way! Fun location by the water. Our server was great. My only negative would be the hostess who seemed clueless
The food was absolutely great and sitting in the patio area made lunch perfect with my family!
Exceptional food, service and dining experience. The wait and culinary staff are a dedicated group; their expertise is sincerely appreciated.
Thomas was top notch and deserves an ownership stake in the restaurant. GM also had great food recommendations.
Great location, food and service!
Superb food and exceptional service! D finitely going backZ
One of our favorite places in San Diego for a nice dinner! Food and service is always amazing.
Jordan with a beautiful Bulgarian accent was our waiter and was phenomenal, top quality service. Made our first experiment here one of a kind. Can’t wait to be back!
We made a reservation for my birthday. We were promptly seated at 7:45. And that’s when things started going downhill. First it took the waitress a good 10 minutes to take our drink order. Another 10 minutes before the food order. She wanted to take the appetizer order to get them out first.
50 minutes later (yes, I counted) she gave me a snippy response when I asked if she could check on the food. She came back another 10 Minutes later to tell us that the kitchen was still working on tickets from 8:05. Like that’s an excuse lr I should care.
A few minutes after 9, the manager comes by and I let him know how frustrating this was, pointing out that there were children in our party, and not a lick of food. He offered to bring some bread out ahead of the food.
His explanation that the restaurant was busy because of accepting too many walkins is simply ridiculous. The food was delicious but the service is ridiculously bad.
We went for breakfast/brunch. They weren’t serving after 11, when we got there. So we had a drink and left. I spent almost $200 the night before and the server recommended the brunch the next day. He did not mention the hours. We wasted our time based off his recommendations. Very disappointing. The server we did have for our one drink was uninterested and seemed to be annoyed that she had a shift. I’d expect better service from an establishment with these prices.
Also my Bloody Mary tastes like soap and didn’t have the fun meat n cheese garnish that it used too. Covid ruins everything.
Nice place to eat and watch the sundown
Quite loud out on the back patio. I would rather have had the opportunity to listen to the ocean instead of the loud music and, therefore, loud patrons. But the food was excellent, especially the lamb lollipops and the corn and cotija salad. Sushi roll was great too. Very kind server too, but perhaps new, as he kept forgetting to bring my drink and I finally got it at the end of the meal, with dessert.
Super awesome menu, ambience, waitstaff! Food was summery, fresh, and delicious. Great place for a birthday dinner!
As always, good was great! Had the smoked trip tip dip sandwich which was LOADED with a relish full of broccoli and red peppers! 🤤 Our server, Mike, was superb! This is by far my FAVORITE restaurant in my town!! Never a disappointment!
Staff was kind and professional. Waiter was excellent. Attentive and stopped by regularly to check on us. Food was just okay. Sushi was a little too wet and not flavorful. Chicken breast was tender with the chop salad. Dressing was not flavorful. 7/16
Great place for local San Diegan's to get out see the beach and enjoy the reason we live here. And for tourists, it is perfect. The quintessential Southern California experience with good food, great martini's and atmosphere.
My girlfriends and I had a great time at JRDN yesterday. Everything was perfect including our table, the service, delicious food (2 got the fish tacos and 2 of us got the chopped salad) and the valet parking. We will be back for sure!
Great! We came late at night, they were very accommodating—great service, food and atmosphere!
Delicious food and perfect patio! Will definitely be back
Not great. Reservation at 8:15 and did not get a drink until 8:45. Food came staggered at different times and we could not eat together
Always enjoy food and ambiance.
Waitstaff is short handed, but as attentive as they can be. Probably short handed due to the economy. New menu is confusing and compared with the previous menu, it is lacking. Not everything has to be Japanese cuisine. Most of the dishes were prepared well and delicious, but more choices would be nice. How about a nice big hunk of grilled fresh fish? We’re next to the pacific after all.
Skip the crab toast appetizer—I could see the crab, but couldn’t taste it through the mayonnaise. Chef needs to rethink that one. The chocolate mousse is great and my wife loved the 8 layer carrot cake.
We ate there 2x this vacation and I canceled our third reservation to try something else. Too bad the old menu is gone. We went to the restaurant many times before Covid.
Great food and service beachside got a very pleasant birthday lunch.
Great food, great view, great atmosphere and great service.
The service was excellent. First, the hostess seated me at a quiet table with a nice view of the ocean. Then the server made sure that everything was fine. The food was very good.
We celebrated our 42 wedding anniversary.
We have walked by this restaurant several times when we visit San Diego. This time we went in and we were very glad we did. The food was great and our waiter was friendly but professional. We will be back!
We sat outside next to the plexiglass with a fantastic view of the Pacific. The food was all very good. My wife really enjoyed the BAKED GOAT’S MILK RICOTTA appetizer and she loved the corn bread. Her entree Crunch salad was an ample portion with lots of veggies.
The mac and cheese shareable side was very tasty. But my high lite was the Bone-in Bacon Pork chop. It was HUGE in size- probably a full 16 oz cooked medium rare with a lot of flavor. Delicious and filling. We finished with the cream cheese carrot cake with caramel corn, whiskey raisins, and butterscotch. How do you say SUGARY Sweet? But, mmm good. We spent two leisurely hours soaking in the ocean view and stuffing our bellies with very good food served by an attentive waitress.
We dined at JRDN twice during our visit to the Pacific Beach area. It is the only upscale restaurant that we found in the area. The food was excellent with unique tastes and ample servings. Dined outdoors once and at the bar the second time. Waitstaff was very knowledgeable of how the various dishes were prepared. They were also very attentive. Vibrant bar scene right next to the beach.
Very noisy except for outside on the north side by the ‘windows’. The food was outstanding! The manager was great!
For the prices the restaurant is charging, you should receive impeccable service. We were seated @ an unmade table that appeared dirty and had seat cushions w/ crumbs and stains. They sat us w/ one menu and then the server pulled out a wadded up copy from his pocket when we requested a second menu. He (our server) was nice enough, but goofy and unprofessional and had to return several times to ask us orders again because he had forgotten. Here is a clue, write it down! It was my sister's birthday and he recruited the loud drunk people at the next table to sing to her. The food was pretty good and the restaurant is hip, but having been in food service myself it was all a bit embarrassing.
Luckily my sister had a decent meal. And we laughed a lot at the spectacle.
great restaurant. staff top notch. food was awesome. will be back for sure.
The ahi tuna nachos were amazing as was the yellowtail roll. Highly recommend.
We told the hostess we had a birthday girl but no one ever did anything - no dong nothing— wanted a little surprise for a 19 yr old. Food was mostly good but the lighting at the table after dark made it anyone’s guess what was going on our fork and into our mouths. Nice waiter. Yellowtail was great so was ceviche and oysters. The calamari was inedible.
Everything was great! Service, food, fun music! We had oysters, nigiri sushi, oxtail papardelle and the scallops. All wonderful with great views.
