We returned to JRDN for our annual trip to Pacific Beach but were very disappointed by the slow service and so so food. It began with an unpleasant greeting from the hostess who hardly acknowledged our long time reservation (even when we stopped by early to reconfirm.). After much swaying she finally gave us a table on the patio which we had requested for the sunset. It turned out to be super cold as their heat-lamps are spaced too far apart and don’t reach all the tables. Our waiter was pleasant but disappeared for huge amounts of time. The sushi appetizers took forever which he acknowledged was the fault of the kitchen but did nothing to make up for it, and the lobster roll, when it finally came, was very disappointing. Super dry and overly spicy. The brusselsprouts app was super greasy. The entrees were over priced and disappointing. Dinner took forever, we were freezing, the food was mediocre, service was poor and our bill was over $200 for three of us. Probably won’t go back again,
Dinner was excellent. Service was great. Love the patio dining.
Have the mussels!
Wonderful service with a smile! Great drinks and mostly fabulous food!
Lobster Sushi as appetizer was delicious, along with the mussel appetizer which was to die for.
Only complaint is that they attempted to bring our entrees while we were 1/2 way through our appetizers!
My short rib entree was extremely tender with a wonderful flavor!
Other other hand my husband’s lamb steak was served cold !! The wait staff did take it back to the kitchen and assume they nuked it in the microwave which should never be done to meat! He said it tasted ok.
But.... I definitely wound go back!! Worth a try!!
We are frequent patrons though our waiter was very sweet the service was very slow longer then average wait time for our food, generally the service is excellent, there was only one other time we had inadequate wait time, & we have been dining there since you opened.
Great food, great service, wonderful view!!!
Love this place. Been there a lot recently and it’s always beyond par. Great for any occasion.
Great ocean front restaurant in the hard of Pacific Beach that is great for people watching and also good food and cocktails!
The food here is always incredible. It was a bit loud and the service was slow. Our appetizer came long after dinner was served.
Great restaurant. Will come back again. Recommend it highly.
Fantastic evening and place to celebrate 1st anniversary. Thank you. Bravo Zulu to Chef and Waiter Tom
The best food we had by far in San Diego. Went twice during our 6 day trip. Everything we had was fantastic.
We selected from the small plates menu and got happy hour prices on the wine while dining out on the patio with a great view. This is a good restaurant, but rather pricey for entrees and non-happy hour beverages. The view is great and its a very classy venue. Service is always top-notch.
Staff was lovely about our birthday party. Exchanged one sushi roll that tasted goofy, gave the birthday girl a great dessert
Super loud. Not a favorite
Ahi nachos were delicious! So was California roll with scallops on top. Great evening
Food was fabulous. Rib eye, lobster tail, bone marrow and carrot cake all excellent as was our waiter, George.
The host was not very friendly or welcoming. The server was great.
Decent place VERY LOUD
Every time we come here (brunch & dinner) the food, cocktails & service are incredible!!
Good (enough) work-a-day spot with decent (if Californicated) food and friendly (if haphazard) service.
The clientele is rowdy though.
Meh. Mediocre over-priced food. Is this supposed to be intro to seafood fare? Bad management. Won’t last at this pace.
The quality of the food is not as good as it once was. The food was bland.
I like this restaurant having eaten there several times a year since 2006. Last Saturday the service was slow and uneven. Cocktails and wine took over 10 minutes each time we ordered. 20 minutes between courses. 10 minutes to get a check and pay the bill. I will be back but more attention to the guests will be needed. Had the Black Cod! It was perfect (once we got it).
Had to use our Flashlight on phone to read the menu. Lighting was a challenge.
Due to menu changes we couldn’t find anything that met our needs. We left.
It is disappointing because prior to the changed menu this was a favorite.
Easy parking, great view, amazing menu, friendly & helpful staff.
I always wanted to eat there since a was a teenager and it lived up to my expectations!
Cannot wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Modern. Very very good food. Beet salad and ahi nachos We sat on the patio and were warm despite it being a cool day. Service was adequate, with apologies for them having a large party, though the patio was only half filled and indoor almost empty.
As we were about to leave an older woman at a nearby table fell and collapsed unconscious. The restaurant personnel did not seem to respond professionally --- we had to make the 9-11 call and other customers tried to care for her. No wait staff did anything. Fire Department response was probably 5 minutes. A bit disconcerting to say the least.
The chef uses a lot different combination of flavors for their dishes. Our favorite restaurant in Pacific Beach.
Great brunch at JRDN. Tower 23 is one of those special spots in PB that is nicer than the average waterfront spot for the neighborhood, but still casual. Service was exceptional and the brunch options are diverse. The view of course is a nice bonus!
Food was disappointing. Restaurant is very noisy, not conducive to any sort of conversation. We've been here prior to the renovation and really enjoyed food and atmosphere. This current experience was very disappointing.
I have been patronizing Restaurant Week for years. It's a great way of getting to know a restaurant. It's disappointing that a participating restaurant cannot serve their SDRW menu because they run out. This is the first after 14 years. The food we ordered from the regular menu were good but they were not what we expected to taste.
We were very disappointed with JRDN. Wanted to have quite evening with my wife to celebrate her birthday. Several large groups in restaurant. Extremely loud, lots of profanity. Definitely not an atmosphere for relaxed dining. Food was marginal and expensive. Service was poor. Don't plan to go back even though we were staying at Tower23. I will say that the morning breakfast/brunch was good.
JRDN is amazing! I haven’t had the chance to get in since the remodel last year, and it looks fabulous. Great new set up, same great food and service. Can’t wait to get back!
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time JRDN! Our server Thomas was an absolute delight and checked in on us multiple times and felt like they truly wanted us to be satisfied every second we were in the restaurant. We shared the ahi tuna nachos and they were killer! We also had the rainbow sushi roll to share and we were astonished with the freshness of each different fish. My girlfriend had the lobster pasta and said that the butternut squash tasted exactly like spaghetti and the dish was overall incredibly flavorful. I had the lamb steak which was to die for and plated on a wonderful bed of mushrooms and greens. Overall, we both had an amazing experience from the second we walked in to the second we left! Thank you JRDN and Thomas for making our anniversary so memorable. I hope to be back soon to try all the other wonderful dishes with a nice view of the ocean! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
The service was excellent. The wait staff was very accomodating to our needs. The food was hot and the recipes/flavor combinations were memorable. Will definitely return.
Due to the rain, everyone was dining inside. It was really loud. Very hard to have good conversation. Other than that I loved it!
It's very nice place and very big restaurant and they have very big menu and food quality is very high and very tasty food, but little expensive.
Beautiful setting and restaurant. Very nice staff. The food was meh. My soda was flat and my steak salad was unimpressive. The steak was a little tough and they gave me a butter knife to cut it. The salad was in wedge style so I had to all the work to put it in bite sizes. The tomatoes were hot (yuck) and I’d prefer no fried onions in the salad. How about a healthier version with veggies in it instead?
I've always really enjoyed JRDN for breakfast and lunch...
This was our first dinner.
We were so pleasantly surprised! It steps up to the romantic, relaxed evening wonderfully!
And each bite of food was so amazing! Beyond delicious!! Wow!!
Can hardly wait to bring my friends for the Dinner Experience!!
