Josephine is the latest concept from James Beard nominated Chef Michael Scelfo of smash hits Alden & Harlow, Waypoint, and The Longfellow Bar.

Josephine is a celebration of family and food, focused on Italian favorites and simple pleasures.

Josephine features deep dish & thin wood fired pizzas and whimsical riffs on classic Italian foods, all set in a lively space. A massive marble bar with craft cocktails, ice cold martinis on tap, and a huge out door space that's dog friendly with an outdoor bar and fire pit will bring you back again and again.

    Excellent food and drink choices. Service was a bit slow but it was a Friday evening. Would definitely go back.

    Best Italian we have had since Italy! Every dish we had both nites while staying at The CAMBRIA was amazing! Will be back! Here for Boston Marathon.

    Awful experience from the poor hosting start, to scattered food delivery, to poor attention, to a small fire breaking out and staff ineptly responding, I can’t believe how poorly this place is run. ———- Reply: 4/24/25 I appreciate the response and understand reservations how reservations for tables take precedent, however I didn’t walk in and make “immediate” request for a table. I made a reservation a week earlier. We were the very first table sat at the opening time. I’ll very skeptically take your word that every booth and table was specifically requested months in advance and no other option was available. Regarding the fire, you’re completely wrong. The “neighboring property” is attached to the restaurant by an open hallway. If management is separate, there is no physical barrier to clearly distinguish one property from the neighbor. The planter that caught on fire was physically in line with the perimeter of the restaurant. It was the size of a small bbq grill fire and grew because the staff did nothing to address what could have and should have been extinguished by a bottle of water. A server ran to the back of the bar from the outside, having seen it directly in front of himself. Another guest pointed out the fire and it was an owner or manager who ran out and stomped on the fire wearing sneakers. I know this because I was literally standing in the middle of the restaurant, directly across from your host stand. If I didn’t have small children holding my hands and afraid of the growing fire, I certainly would have grabbed a ice bucket, from any one of the many water sources in the restaurant to extinguish it myself. Of course, any fire extinguisher would have done the trick. There was no effort to keep other patrons calm and comfortable. It was a lack of common sense and panic by the staff. I’m not usually one to post complaints. This was a uniquely bad experience.

    Hello Bill, I hope you're well. I wanted to follow up regarding your recent visit. I understand your frustration about not being seated at a booth immediately. However, those booths had been specifically requested months in advance by other guests as part of their reservations, and we do our best to honor these commitments. Regarding the fire incident near the Cambria Hotel, it occurred outside our property and was ultimately handled by the responsible management.     Cannot say enough about Josephine. The room is beautiful , the cocktails exceptional , the menu is simple but sophisticated and the service is wonderful. I’d go there every week if I could! How lucky Somerville / Medford is to have this gem!!!!

    the food here is honestly excellent, but that’s the only good thing about this place. They have no respect for reservations — even if you book ahead, you’ll still end up waiting a long time to be seated. On top of that, the food takes forever to come out, sometimes over 30 minutes. No matter how good the food is, it’s just not worth the frustration and wasted time. Don’t bother making a reservation—they don’t care.

    Great food an service. Valet parking is key as there is minimal parking in the area. We were a group of 4 and ordered 2 deep dish pizzas and ended up going home with half of each. They were delicious but too big. One would have been fine for the group. Meatball and focaccia apps were delicious. Drinks were good, A little small, but good. Will go again for sure.

    everything we ate was spectacular except the olive oil cake dessert (chef needs a tart counterpoint to the sweetness of the cake, and the blueberries were too sweet to compliment properly). service was average to below average from our wait personal, but as a plus, other team members pitched in to help us.

    Overall great ambience and service! The only thing to note is that we had requested a box for our food, our waiter took our plates but didn’t bring anything back to us
