The eccentric and unique design is created by co-partner Bridger Smith. With touches of modern and antique, the ambience is cool and quaint. Antique glass windows and brick from the historic Crystal Palace Hotel are incorporated in the space. There is a 16ft light structure that mimics the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere, as seen from co-owner and restauranteur Alia Joonas's home in Mauritius.

Really dark but beautiful space to enjoy tapas. Pricey but the food is outstanding if you're looking for an intimate date night.
Date night with my fiancé. The ambience was amazing and romantic. I highly recommend this place. Can’t wait to go back again.
Lovely experience all around. We got to dig into quite a few of the cocktails and tapas offerings, and we were very happy with everything on the table! The space is beautiful, it’s clear this team cared a lot when designing the experience. Definitely don’t be afraid of ordering a variety of cocktails, they all hit the spot!
Just not impressed w the food at all. Way overpriced for what it is. We felt rushed by the service as well. Would not go back
We created a dinner from the tapas both hold and cold. Of course they were delicious and our four dishes provided a wide variety of taste experiences. Great atmosphere. And another terrific aspect was that the background music was low and so diners did not have to shout above it, thus allowing for easy conversation in a most pleasant setting.
Beautiful space. Inexperienced poor service and low quality food from start to finish. No management around. Complete fail. Too many examples to list.
Very bad quality of food, very over rated, turist trap
An amazing setting, fabulous table and room decor. Every table is fantastic and perfect for a group or romantic dinner. Service was slow but allowed for casual dining and enjoying the dishes. Outstanding creative cocktails!!! And the menu is delicious.
The Joonas salad was out of this world as was the shrimp appetizer. We also ordered the special of the day - halibut, that was very good. We also had their chicken korma was good but we've had better. Regardless, we were thrilled to see some Indian inspired food so no complaints at all. Over all it was an outstanding dining experience!
The food was spectacular! The ambiance was wonderful and very good service. They have a big wine list to choose from. Everything was great ! Highly recommended and visiting again.
I was pleasantly surprised by Joonas as I only recently heard of it and it's subterranean. The atmosphere was awesome, with a constellation of lights on the ceiling and dimly lit theater for a cast full of interesting flavors. Everyone around us recommended the tuna tostada, so we got this, and it did not disappoint. Equally excellent was the hamachi tiraditio, where they used yellowtail belly which was impressive. Next up, the jamon serrano platter which was great but I wanted extra serrano no chorizo and instead they substituted salami. The cocktails are so fun, playful, and artistic. I started with a charcoal mezcal drink topped with gold flecks, and ended with my favorite a hot pink oscaso with hibiscus teaming with flavor. All in all, it was a great experience. And it didn't hurt that the cool atmosphere attracted a cool crowd, so we met some nice people and ran into some local friends. Thanks for the experience, Joonas!
Absolutely amazing! Cocktails were beautiful the food was delicious and the ambience A+ we loved it!!
Where to start... I normally don't like writing negative reviews, but this review is rewarded.
For starters - our waiter was solid. Not brilliant, but solid. The issue was with the food service.
- We were seated at 6:15 and our first tapas dish was served at 7:15PM (only after asking if there was any possibility of seeing food).
- The rest of the dishes were served at 7:30PM.
It was a super long wait for very mediocre food.
- The bruschetta was NOT grilled Italian bread, it was served on a dry toast.
- The chicken masala was bland, bland, bland. Much more like korma
I later learned that this restaurant opened just a few months ago. It won't be around for long in Aspen where you have lots of great dining options.
Ashleigh, the bartender was outstanding!
LOVED the food! Loved the atmosphere. Only suggestion is that the music was loud and made it hard to have a conversation. Can't wait to go back and tell more people about it!
La comida estuvo muy buena. Un poco lento el servicio a pesar de haber poca gente. Las mesas muy pegadas para estar en un ambiente COVID.
Sexy and delicious. Fabulous soundtrack. Home made everything.
Delicious meal and wonderful service! Will definitely go back again soon!
Food was very good, but they still need to get some kinks out of service. The room is dark and sexy.
Would definitely go back.
Romantic. Beautiful décor. Soft lighting, not noisy. Attentive service, sommelier. Small plates, Basque-ish style. Shrimp was particularly tasty. Also several entrees. I'll try next time. Will definitely return.
This is my new favorite restaurant in Aspen! And I’m a local. The ambiance is so sexy and elegant and the food is delicious. I got the chicken tikka masala. The service is wonderful and the owner, Alia, came by our table to greet us. Joonas is so obviously a labor of love.
Wow! I have lived in Aspen for 10 years and I am surprisingly astounded by this restaurant. The ambience was something that I have not seen in Aspen before. It was cozy and sexy, the music was great and went along with the evening. The food was so tasteful and loved every dish that we had. My date and I were surprised by sitting in one of the wine rooms that was very romantic, we felt very special! I would highly recommend Coming with a date or a few friends. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Will be back again soon!
Loved everything about Joonas! The food was outstanding, the wine recommendations excellent and the service was above par. Would definitely go back!
This is a great place to go in Aspen! From the food to the cocktails it’s just a lovely place. I went there on a date night and we had a blast! Highly recommend if your in Aspen!
Awesome experience! Loved the ambience, and the cuisine was exquisite!
Went for Birthday. Restaurant asked if it was special occasion then did nothing with the info. Cocktails great, space amazing, food good, service poor. Example: when asked for an Italian wine recommendation server said he didn’t know the list, said the table next to us liked bottle X, but he would get the manager. Manager came and and his recommendation was table next to us liked bottle X! Bottle then arrived late & looked like it was a different wine. Manager saw my puzzled look as he was pulling the cork, said not to worry they were out of wine I picked but this one was same price! Numerous other service issues. When you are spending nearly $500 for two you expect more than casually indifferent-bad service.
Joonas is beautiful, delicious, intimate, and staffed by immensely kind and friendly staff. Go check them out!
Excellent underground lounge/restaurant. The ambiance is twinkling lights, crystal plates and glasses, and housey international music. Cocktails are creative covering gin tonics, to charcoal infused, gold flaked creations. Wine list is comprehensive covering most palates, being in the mid to high ranged bottles, sommelier is knowledgeable and paired well to the food, and presentation. The food was thoughtful, and flavorful, in the tapas and pintxos style, with some attributes to its Spanish origin. This is definitely a special night out type of place, or where you can easily rack up the $ signs, for a casual evening. Definitely review the menu ahead of time if you are budget conscious. Also, make a reservation. There is proper coat check, a warm environment, and cozy seats, so you can wear you upscale wear indoors.
Very pushy on spending money quickly. Not the best food for the price required.
A bit pricey but it’s Aspen during pandemic, everyone’s gotta stay open somehow. Beautiful interior & ambience matched by excellent service and delicious food.
The restaurant is beautiful. So different for Aspen. The music, lighting , furniture and feeling of clubby coziness made for a fantastic ambience.
Our server Antonio was so much fun and passionate about the restaurant and the food. His enthusiasm was infectious. Our meal was delicious. So much flavor and spice. The bread with soft fragrant rosemary butter was the beginning of an excellent meal. We especially liked the burata with ratatouille, hamachi taridito, bruschetta, beef cheeks and the lamb tagine.
Thank you for a great dining experience. We can’t wait to return to Joonas.
By far one of the best dining experiences in Aspen. I’ve lived in Aspen for decades and have seen a lot restaurants come and go. Joonas is here to stay and has upped Aspen’s game.
Fantastic everything! Atmosphere from
The moment you walk in to the ornate drinks and incredible wine list to a delicious dining experience. It is the place to be and be seen!!!!
Had an amazing time at Joonas. Beautiful ambiance and the food/service were impeccable.
We had such a special dining experience as our first time dining at Joonas. The owner made our dining first class, toasted with us and then the incredible dining began. Anyone who comes to Aspen MUST dine at Joonas. For any type of occasion and come to enjoy the rustic atmosphere and fine cuisine and spectacular wine and tequila list. We had an amazing evening. We wish you only the very best Alia!
Fantastic New Year’s Eve menu
A great new restaurant with very nice staff and delicious food and lively atmosphere
I am not sure why the call those plates Tapas, the quantity was extremely small and super expensive. I do not recommend this Join
We wanted to say Thank You for last night's great diner experience.
We had a wonderful time, the food and the cocktails were delicious, Joonas 's crew delivered outstanding service, the all ambiance and vibe of the place was very pleasant, Your DJ selection was outstanding, for a bit, you took us on a trip, Elsewhere, Different , Unique... Sight Taste Sound Service, can't find my words...it was all there !

You are on your way to Success, Don't Stop...
It’s always nice to see a new restaurant in Aspen and Joonas is a great new addition. The remodel of the space is absolutely stunning and creates a beautiful and cozy restaurant. The service was impeccable which is very impressive since we ate there on their opening night. Our server, Antonio, was so friendly and attentive. The menu was pretty small since they are still adding items as they receive feedback, so we ordered everything on the menu. I have to say we were a little disappointed by a few things. The “Potato Potato Potato” dish was delicious, but it was $16 but about 3oz of potatoes. The chicken tagine dish also fell flat. But on a few happier notes, the lamb dish was the absolute STAR. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the cous cous with turmeric pearl onions was to die for. They also provided a delightful amuse bouche of poached tomato in strawberry tea that really told us that the chef was not just cooking a menu, but creating an experience. We will definitely be back to see what else Joonas has to offer.
