Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse - Des Moines
One of the best restaurants in the Des Moines area.
My wife and I came here for our Anniversary, she had the Johnny Channel 5 and I had the Steak DeBurgo. Both meals were absolutely amazing! The service was really good and the attentiveness of the waiter was second to none!
I've heard really good things about Johnny's Italian Steakhouse, but when I went there the steak was okay. My girlfriend and I went to the Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in West Des Moines, and the we got the "chubby ribeye steak". The price really reflected the quality because it came out dry, and overall flavorless.
Provided a wonderful atmosphere for Valentine’s Day. The seafood ravioli in garlic sauce was amazing and had the best bruschetta I’ve ever had. We will be back!
As usual, Johnny's didn't disappoint! Consistantly good!
My family has enjoyed this Johnny's Italian Steakhouse since it has opened. It is always a special treat to visit.
The table set up wasn't done correctly which wasn't the waitress's fault. Should have been set up for four. Our food was very good. Our friends had a dessert that was still frozen---which was disappointing to them. The manager apologized and took the dessert off their bill. Overall, the four of us had an enjoyable experience.
Food is always great and service is top notch...we keep coming back
A little pricey but good. Best to get a reservation.
We were seated immediately and our server promptly took our drink order. My drink was not what I ordered, but because it was something I typically drink, I did not make any request for the drink I ordered. Our food came quickly and was cooked to order and very good.
Food was good, service was poor. Would recommend for the food, but beware of slow service. Add additional time if you need to get back to work. Took a while for someone to ask us about beverages, and due to length we all ordered at the same time. Beverages were delayed and when food finally arrived, silverware for soup took some time to obtain. Rest of staff were half finished by the time a spoon arrived for eating of soup. Again, food was good, service too slow.
I truly love this place, I wish I lived closer. I had a ribery steak crusted in parmesan cheese, what a delight. We enjoyed fast and friendly service which is so important to me. I look forward to my next visit.
Birthday party for father in law
Although our Jumbo Crab Cake was tasty, my Chicken Piccata left much to be desired along with the side of charred broccolini that was also served to me. Service was just okay. Our waiter was nice enough but the table could have been bused better.
The food was not served hot which was disappointing. My husband thought the portion of salmon was small for the cost.
We went here for our New Year's Eve dinner. The food was great and the ambiance fit the evening. We will definitely be back.
New Year’s Eve while it was louder then it normally is, the service and food was excellent as always!!
NYE dinner, food was great
We decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Sunday believing service would be better. There was a long delay in getting our salad and almost immediately after the entree’s arrived. It wasn’t overly busy and not close to closing time. Staff were indifferent but this was a very subpar dining experience.
Music was a little load. Even the server had a hard time hearing our order.
But as aleays, great place and will return
Friendly waitress Nicky was very attentive and helpful about picking food and drink . Food was marvelous definitely a great spot for our anniversary.
We were there for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner date. My husband really enjoyed his meal. I was disappointed in mine. I ordered a ribeye steak medium rare and it came out well, well done. I ate a small portion and didn't finish the rest. Our waitess was very kind and wanted to talk with the manager to see what see could do. We declined the offer 1st time at this restaurant came highly recommended by a friend. My husband was pleased she offered to make it right. I'm sure sorry I can't remember her name she was kind and really did a great job!! Prehaps Leah or Leann.
Not busy but food was slow to come out. Service was subpar compared to previous visits.
Went there to celebrate my wife's birthday, been there before and refrain from going their routinely like other places we visit so that Johnny's will stay special to us when we do go. Everyone, from walking in to walking out, was very pleasant and the setting is so nice for special occasions.
Only downside was drinks (wine and draft beer) took a bit to be delivered to the table and my wife adjusted her entrée side from asparagus to broccoli but the dish still came with asparagus. The dish was sent back to be changed but my prime rib came on time so, not wanting to eat in front of my wife, I waited and it took about 10 minutes to get my wife's plate adjusted and delivered as my food got cold. Needless to say it deflated the meal enjoyment as her chicken madeira had little sauce on it after they pulled the asparagus and placed broccoli on top as originally asked for so our waiter offered to get more sauce. This was about another 10 minutes however so by the time it came (as the waiter apologized for the delay but explained how it was made from scratch) most her meal was eaten so it wasn't the best tasting.
Our waiter was very interactive, he was upfront and apologized for his shortcomings on our visit which is why I'm not 1 or 2 star rating the visit. As mentioned, we've been there before (about 4-6 times a year) and this experience won't keep us from returning but if I'd of known how the night was going to turn out on a special occasion as it did I'd of spent our $95 (2 entree's, 2 drinks each) elsewhere.
Excellent food in a fabulous environment, perfect for our lunch business meeting. Highly recommend! A usual spot for us, particularly on Thursdays!
Took a date here, was pleasantly surprised by the food and staff. The menu items were valued well based on the portions they brought out. Only spent about $60 on a dinner for two with a sizable appetizer and plenty of food to take home after we were filled. I recommend this for special occasions and dates.
Good food and good service while accommodating a large group.
I ordered the bone in rib-eye. I wasn't satisfy with it due to it being too lean to my liking. I liked the fully loaded baked potato. Service was very nice and friendly.
We had a very nice dining experience and wonderful service! Our server, Leah, was outstanding.
Mixup on order. It was remedied very quickly. My beer order took a long time to receive. The waitress said the bar was changing the keg. Those would be the only “complaints” I have.
One of my favorite things about Johnny’s is the high back booths. Makes for enjoyable conversation.
The food was great, as always.
A very enjoyable experience as always.
