Joann’s Fine Foods is a lively Tex Mex Diner & Patio Restaurant located in the iconic Austin Motel, along busy South Congress. The vibe is laid back but bustling with comfortable indoor booths, shady patio seating and a popular palapa bar. The vintage diner has been restored and updated with mahogany wood paneling, Mid-century furniture and photos of famous Texans.

The menu features Tex Mex and diner classics cooked over our mesquite burning grill. Joann’s is perfect for brunch, lunch or a classic Austin dinner when strolling the iconic avenue. Favorites include Wood-Grilled Fajitas with tortillas made in-house daily, Joann’s Queso, Avocado & Tuna Tartare, Tacos and Quesadillas, Enchilada Plates and diner specialties including Stone Ground Blue Corn Pancakes, Patty Melt, and Club Sandwich.

The bar is stocked with an extensive tequila and mezcal selection and Joann’s serves one of Austin’s best frozen margaritas.

Bad service, bad coffee, uncomfortable seating, and mediocre food. Was looking forward to brunch having lived in Austin for a few years and this was our first visit. I had no reason to return.

Joann’s is so special. Every detail is a delight - the custom napkins, the custom plates, the little coffee cups and creamer dishes. The food is always great. Staff and managers are lovely. Margaret is the best waitress ever. Always takes excellent care of us.

Thought the ambience was cute. I thought the chips and a queso were good but that’s not why I came. Easy to find good ships and queso in this town I thought the rainbow salad was not even something I would be proud to serve in my home. The lettuce was wilty and the dressing just OK. Sadly, I also did not like my drink. I thought it was too sweet and I had even asked the server about that prior to ordering. I don’t think I’ll be going back.

This restaurant is so over priced. Food quality is mediocre and under seasoned. I felt completely robbed after eating here. My husband had the beef flank carne asada which looked more like an appetizer . The flank steak was chewy and the veg over charred. My chicken Tinga was covered in so much lettuce I could hardly find the few pieces of chicken. Again under seasoned. The only highlight was the sweet wait staff.

I had called 3 days prior to confirm our seating would be indoors. When we arrived, they had no record of my request and could only seat us outdoors - it was too hot to enjoy dinner. The misters don't help as they aren't directed inside the patio. Disappointing :(

Was given the option to book a “standard” or “outdoor” option online and selected standard. When we arrive on time they told us they “don’t pay attention to that” and only had outdoor available (it was over 100 degrees outside). We waited over 30 minutes for our reserved table inside. Service was friendly but mediocre. Mimosas were just a glass of orange juice with a splash of cheap Prosecco. Good spot for a dive-like tex mex breakfast but don’t expect it to be anything special.

Nice space. Nice people. Really good food. Kind of expensive. Maybe it’s the area but I have a hard time with $25+ meal with two enchiladas and rice & beans. The value just isn’t there for me. Go try it yourself. It was tasty. Just expect to pay for the location.

We were here 5:30 on a Tuesday. It was not that busy and yet the service was slow. It Took forever to get drinks. Food was very good. I would go back but not if I was in a hurry.
