About this restaurant

  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
Borrowing its name from an influential 1850s-vintage bar in the Central Business District, this pub-like tavern (with courtyard) occupies an old brick Creole cottage in the French Quarter, where well-known local bartender Chris Hannah serves up cocktails both classic and contemporary. London-born chef Philip Whitmarsh runs the kitchen.
Accolades include James Beard, World 50 Best, Art of Hospitality, Best Bar South (North America).

From the OpenTable editors: In a brick cottage with blue shutters in the French Quarter, you’ll find one of the best bars in the world, a James Beard Award winner ranked on the World’s 50 Best Bars. Beloved local bartender Chris Hannah shakes innovative cocktails like a curried banana colada or bologna negroni (say it out loud) starring mortadella-infused Campari. It’s worth staying for dinner, to sample half a dozen different types of caviar and unusual cuts like wagyu tongue and duck neck sausage.

Such a unique menu. Perfect for a group and to share everything. Perfect place to bring out of towners. But don’t let them order the food. Trust your server.

They have taken their awards and ran with them. An amazing place for drinks, skip the food. They did great drinks and got their prestige and thought that immediately transferred to food. Not true. Grab drinks, avoid the entrees, save your money (each “entree” is near $50)

Great experience! The restaurant is very pretty. We sat outside which was nice but different vibe than inside with the big tent over the area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And most importantly, the food and cocktails were wonderful, unique, and flavorful! I would definitely recommend a visit!

A hidden gem! Food was amazing: himaichi tartar with pomegranate seeds and radish; rabbit croquettes; foie gras topped with morels;and white asparagus in creme fraiche sauce. Cocktails were perfect as was service. Wine list adventuresome: we paired a French Syrah/Cinsaullt blend that worked rabbit through asparagus!

Absolutely phenomenal cocktail bar. Service and cocktails both worthy of the accolades. A much cooler and more refined vibe than most of the French quarter.

Our server started out by being friendly enough, not overly so, but she brought my husband the wrong drink. I’m not sure if she had to pay for it or not but her entire attitude shifted after that. Everyone else that came to the table was friendly and smiling, she wouldn’t utter a word, almost like we did something to annoy her. The food was good for the most part, just small portions and extremely difficult menu to understand. She didn’t really explain the ingredients and we were looking them up before we could order. That also went for the cocktails. I think I really hyped myself up for this place. I’ve been eager to get here for some time and I, along with my party, was disappointed. Not really sure what the hype is about. I have definitely had better meals and cocktails in this city. Just ok
