Jema Ratings and Reviews
Excellent restaurant, NYC level!!! From the hostess Jennifer (even if it was her first day) to the food and service everything was top notch. Octopus is the best I've ever had, Duck was unbelievable and the cocktails too..I dont understand why people complain about prices. Overall 120$ for two people. At this quality, totally worth it. Will be back!
Food was delicious. The best grilled octopus appetizer I ever had! It included the flavor of chorizo and was served on a bed mashed potatoes. An appetizer of $19, though, was a tad bit pricey. Had the squid linguine with seafood. It was super tasty. Loved the bread crumbs sprinkled on top. Still, could have used a bit more seafood. Also, a past dish for nearly $30 was a bit pricey. The service was impeccable. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly wait-staff. Finally, the wine list was excellent, but the pour was bit light and not your usual 5-6 oz. This is an honest review. I really loved Jema, but I offer up these cheers and critiques as one who always seek for restaurants to improve themselves.
We ate upstairs in a very quiet (only seven tables) area and received incredible personal attention along with excellent food. It was a joy not to have to raise your voice to be heard on a Saturday night. The downstairs section was more lively with a little bit more noise. The Maitre d and Manager came to the table to assure all was well and told us a brief history of the chef. Highly recommend Jema. It is a NYC type upscale restaurant here on Long Island.
Food is fine. Seems like the same menu as restaurant that had this space before. Jema just re invented it?? Portions are very small. My husband had to go to little Vincent’s for a slice after we left! Service is friendly. Decor exactly the same as before. All in all. Eh
My husband and I wanted to try Jema for a little while, and we were very happy we did.
The interior is cozy yet contemporary, the staff is very nice and attentive and the food was delicious. This is an upscale kind of restaurant, worth the trip. We will definitely be back....
Each time we go, the place just gets better and better. Small touches go a long way. My wife didn’t finish part of her meal, asked if she could take it home. Yes, of course. As we were leaving , almost forgetting she asked for it, the hostess handed her a neatly wrapped package containing her leftovers. Instead of bringing it to table where it’s always ackward, they hand to you as you leave. Very classy.
This was my 2nd visit to Jema and it didn't disappoint. Oysters and grilled octopus were superb. Our main entrees also were great. Incredible service from the staff. Really nice personal touches such as choosing your knife to cut your meat, etc. Although expensive, well worth it!
Really nice restaurant, our only issue was the service was very slow and we were left waiting a lot. The menu is also very small, without many safe items. We are foodies and loved all we had, but some of the people in our party wanted somthing familiar ( No fillet mignon ) . Also lights a little bright upstairs, would have loved them more dim and intimate. But we will be back and would recommend!
Beautiful space, quiet ambience and good locally sourced food. Slight problem with timing, our entree came out before we had gone over a wine pairing so we sat with a cooling main course waiting for the sommelier to stop by. This might sound picky but with food at this quality and price I would have expected better. But overall a lovely dining experience.
We started with drinks at the bar and then moved upstairs to a corner table . Loved the decor and levels . Had the octopus for appy - so tender and the black squid ink pasta with scallops , shrimp and mussels - all excellent - portions were not large ,just right
I visited the restaurant with my wife to celebrate my birthday. I was really excited to visit this place as my friends said how nice it is. It was better. Since the moment they opened the door for us with a great smile. All staff were friendly and lovely. We absolutely loved the food. It was tasty and delicious. We did the tasting menu with pairing wine, just perfect. Decor it's beautiful. I have not enough words to say about desert, love it. They just made my birthday complete. I will be back, totally recommend it. Worth the drive. Thanks Jema team.
Outstanding service from the valet parking to the hostess to the server to the sommelier and to one of the owners, all of them so gracefully greeted, acknowledged and accommodated you like if you were a long time patron of the place. All very impressive. The cocktails were very different and delicious, you must not skip them. The bread basket however, you can skip with no regrets, bread was cold hard and not what I would expect at a restaurant like this one. The rest of the menu is intriguing, I like the grilled octopus which our server recommended, I also had the picanha which is a beef, it was absolutely delicious. The menu is limited but not ordinary. The desserts are wonderful. Noise level is a little high for my taste, but all in all we had a lovely and enchanting dinner.
Upon arrival the space is elegant and interesting. We were greeted promptly and walked to our table. The hostess noticed that this was an Anniversary dinner as indicated on Open Table reservation and wished us a happy anniversary. Within minutes of being seated our waiter came to our table to introduce himself. He was very pleasant and friendly. We ordered two orange martini's to begin. They were ok. We then ordered appetizers. I ordered the tomato, beet & burratta salad. Husband ordered the Fois Gras that came with toast. Both appetizers were very good! Full of flavor and plentiful. For dinner I had the Gnocchi, mushroom and artichoke dish. To say this was the most bland dish I've ever eaten is being nice. There was no distinct flavor in the dish. The gnocchi was dry, there was nothing at all for a base in this dish. Just the three items with mini croutons on top. Husband ordered the Oxtail Agnolotti. There was a unique fire spice flavor added to it that wasn't indicated on the menu. The flavors were not in sync at all. We were so extremely disappointed in dinner we promptly asked for our check. I didn't finish my food. I took it home. I thought I'd try to add some flavor to it but never actually ate it the next day. If the food was spectacular there'd be no doubt in my return. Unfortunately spectacular service alone does not warrant a return to Jema.
JEMA IS A BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED RESTAURANT! WE WERE SEATED ON THE UPPER LEVEL
PETER SEEMED VERY ATTENTIVE, AT FIRST! WE ASKED TO CHANGE OUR TABLE WHEN A LARGE PARTY OF 10 WAS SEATED NEXT TO US. HE WAS ACCOMADATING BUT WHE
HE BROUHT AN INCORRECT DRINK, IT TOOK 40 MINUTES TO BRING CORRECT ONE
WE WERE SERVED OUR APPETIZERS AND THEY WERE GOOD BUT WHEN THE
DISHES WERE REMOVED PETER AND THE SERVER 30 MINUTES LATER
ASKED HOW WE ENJOYED OUR DINNERS! WE HADNT BEEN SERVED THEM AT THIS POINT OR THE BOTTLE OF WINE WE ORDERED. THEY SEEMED DISTRACTED THE SERVICE WENT DOWNHILL BLAMED ERRORS MADE ON
OUR TABLE CHANGE AND THE ARRIVAL OF THE LARGE PARTY
OUR DINNERS AND WINE WHEN THEY FINALLY ARRIVED LEFT US VERY UNIMPRESSED
MY HUSBAND NEVER WAS BROUGHT THE CAPPUCINO HE ORDERED
WE WILL NOT BE DINING HERE AGAIN PRETTY DECOR BUT LACKING IN MANY OTHER AREAS
While the food and staff were both excellent, the restaurant's policy when it comes to parties greater than six leaves much to be desired. We were a party of eight. Therefore , we couldn't order off the main menu.Since I had gotten the group together,I was told to pick three dishes from the first and second courses that were on the menu. There was no guarantee that all would be available if they ran out of a particular item.Since this was done days in advance, one would think they would have an ample supply of their most popular dishes and what was chosen. Not so. One appetizer that was chosen was not available. Our waiter said it was off the menu when two days prior it was there and recommended. One other thing I found disturbing. With a party of eight or more it was a price fixed dinner of three courses for eighty five dollars per person. However, upon looking at the regular menu it seems the numbers don't add up.For example: I had the wagyu beef and green salad forty and seventeen dollars .You can't tell me that dessert is twenty eight bucks.Others had lower priced entrees.Jema is an excellent restaurant. The food and staff are incredible. But with a policy such as I described, I don't think the upscale clientele that they want to cater to would stand for that kind of treatment.
A wonderful addition to that location! Small menu yet all seasonal. Absolutely delicious meal. Portions were "appropriate" for what we should be eating according to Weight Watchers. But when a dish is so pricey, you can't help but want it to be more. Yet it was absolutely incredible, creative and beautifully plated! Our waitress was outstanding! She knew every detail of every dish, was so friendly and even repeated the items of the dish as she set it down. You really don't expect this type of meal to be huge in portion size. It's special. Definitely for foodies!
We were greeted at the door with a big smile from the hostess, she gave us our choice of table.
MARCO, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list.
MARCO made us feel at ease and comfortable while navigating our way through the menu.
We started with the oysters and grilled octopus. The octopus had a nice char and cooked to perfection.
for our entrees we had HALIBUT with BROCCOLI, NUTS, BEURRE BLANC, none better and the WAGYU “PICANHA” MUSHROOMS, GNOCCHI, POTATOES, delicious, the steak was so tender and flavorful.
For desert we shared the smoked vanilla ice cream with salted caramel, a mouse that I can't describe with candied wafers, so good.
Jema is the place to go for the finest food and hospitality, I will return.
Outstanding food and service, my group kept saying what a great new find this was. Staff was so enthusiastic, it was refreshing. Beautiful decor, especially loved that the tables were spaced far enough apart to keep the noise level down and allow some privacy and the round table was roomy, we had elbow room.
