Jean Farris Winery & Bistro
The duck was over seasoned, the skirt steak was tuff, the cheese board and salad was primer. Your feature Kentucky wine was not to my taste.
AmaZing staff and great food. I love the different cheeses they have and the wine flights are great!
Jean Farris Winery & Bistro is always a treat. The owner, Jeanie Odaniel, is a superb chef who lovingly prepares the meals. The weekly specials are invariably truly special. The restaurant is gorgeous inside, and out where the view of the vinyards and the countryside is a delight. The staff, led by her husband and other family members, is friendly and exceptionally attentive. The wine list, starting with their own wines, is excellent and the cocktails innovative. I can't recommend a restaurant more highly. We will be back!
I always love the vineyard setting at Jean Farris and food is consistently excellent.
Food tasty but heavy. No need for the music. Thanks for turning it down so we could hear each other. Chair seats tough for unpadded bums. Setting beautiful in the evening light. Service helpful and great. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
Amazing dining experience and a lovely family owned business.
Our son who lives in Chicago was in town for a visit so we took him to Jean Farris Winery & Bistro for dinner. He had been there before, but it had been several years. He has become a lover of good wine and was very happy to sample the Cab Franc which we all had with dinner and it was fabulous. His vegetarian dinner (and mine) was greatly enjoyed and we all shared crackers and fried green tomatoes. We will definitely be back. We love to take out-of-town family and guests to Jean Farris. It is a lovely setting and the food and wine (also cocktails) are very good. Totally worth the trip.
They were very busy and we appreciated the note requesting patience explaining their staff was new. A large thunderstorm knocked out the electricity halfway through our meal and our waiter did a good job recommending options that could be prepared while the electric was out. The cocktails and wine were outstanding but the highlight was the house made crackers. We look forward to our next visit.
Awesome place with amazing food! Definitely get the Honey Chèvre, it was the bees knees
Disappointing dinner at Jean Farris. While our waitress was polite, she was not attentive, and we had to try and track her down several times. Salads were ok. Entrees were subpar. Only highlight was the chocolate lava cake for dessert. We sat outside under the tent which was very hot and uncomfortable. Halfway thru our meal we had to move inside which was air-conditioned.
They were short staffed and I appreciated how they let customers know through signage on the door. That may have contributed to the “cold-ish” service. The food was good, but not great. The $20 three cheese board isn’t worth $20...$15 is more reasonable. But good experience overall.
One of our favorite spots. Love the scallops and heirloom tomato tasting.
Lovely setting, let down by service. Seemed very unorganized, staff not very friendly. Our orders came our separately. One main came out 25 mins before the rest. Requested our drinks and food multiple times. Food was ok, wine was well below par. Wont rush back
Server was very nice and knowledgeable but not necessarily attentive and the level of professionalism I expect from a place like Jean Farris. Wine was great. Cheese board and house made crackers were a highlight. Food/ entree was just okay and not hot but they did make accommodations on sides. They seem to be getting back on their feet from COVID and prices/ service/ ambience don’t match up (prices are too high for level of food and service received). Grounds are lovely but there were several propane tanks sitting on the patio and random boxes and dead plants around that did not make it seem like as nice as a place to eat.
Having previously dined at Jean Farris, I was beyond disappointed with every aspect of our experience. I will not recommend them to anyone and will not return in the future. Our salad was served with rotting greens, the wine had a strong vinegar taste/scent and the overall service was sub-par. I would rate Jean Farris with 0/5 stars if that were an option.
We have had wonderful experiences in past years at Jean Farris. This particular night was rough. We were placed in an outdoor tent that felt like an unclean catch-all space. All of the tables were unbused except ours. I had to ask three times for our table candle to be lit. It was not a busy night while we’re were there. My husband’s soup & salad were acceptable. However, my heirloom tomato salad was a plate full of hard tomatoes with a minimal drizzle of a type of glaze, two minimal slices of unimpressive mozzarella cheese, and four salt offerings around the side. My wine flight had two good red wines (merlot & Zinfandel) and two not good light wines (white and rose’). I hesitated leaving a challenging review in the era of covid, but feel some effort needs to be spent on improvements for us to consider returning.
Food was AMAZING!! We had great service, our waitress Margaret had only been working there for 2 weeks and she did a fabulous job taking care of us! We got our food before our appetizer and they threw in some extra stuff to make up for it! I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back!
It was a lovely evening
Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Explorative menu.
My wife and I have eaten at Jean Farris multiple times over the years. Unfortunately tonight will likely be our last visit. The service was ok and the wine was good. The food never came. In fact the servers came to each table to tell us the kitchen was shutting down and they couldn’t complete our orders. There was clearly a problem in the kitchen. The last interaction was some complimentary microwaved cobbler and a recommendation, “It’s probably a good idea to leave as soon as you can”.
Food was cold even though not busy. Waited over an hour for entree. Service was very slow.
All around great food, drinks, and service for our work dinner Sunday evening! We were spaced safely away from other tables, brought beautiful wines to taste with our charcuterie and tomato-burrata plate, and had scallops and salmon cooked to perfection. The chef even allowed extra servings of goat cheese for our guest who can't eat cow's milk!
Recommendation: Tempest Red Wine, charcuterie, and scallops! And ask for Katie or Jen - they'll make sure you're well taken care of.
Food was absolutely terrible. Worst place I could’ve chose for grad dinner. No flavor. 3 hours of service too.
So happy we found this GEM! Wonderful experience in dining away from the craziness of Man O War. Owner was very gracious. Personable experience. (I am not a friend or family member of the owners.)
Understanding the federal government is doing its best to put small companies out of business, I think this place did a very good job of covering down on the service. I hate reading poor reviews related to service during this time period as many small restaurants are struggling to hire and keep help...many have just given up and shut down. A few little bobbles up front but they recovered very well and did a very good job. The food itself was excellent. We especially enjoyed the classic red wine flight and cheese tray which would be reason enough to return. I had the filet and it was the best I can remember, the texture and flavor were excellent. All in all it was a very good experience.
Celebration of moms 75th birthday
Excellent bartender/waiter and beautiful views
A nice dinner with my children and
Granddaughter and my sister. Very nice.
Once again great service from Jean Farris. We had the award winning Cabernet Sauvignon as well as great food. Always a pleasure to visit Jean Farris. We will definitely be coming back
The food and wine was fantastic, waitress was super helpful. Definitely will be returning
Good food and wine
Had a great experience thanks to our server, Sarah S. She was engaging and allowed us to experience the bourbon taster that was not on the menu, which we appreciated and enjoyed. We will definitely return.
Excellent as always
The staff did a terrific job servicing our party of 7 during wind & rain storm. They went above & beyond to take care of our table in the tented area overlooking the vineyard. The food was great especially the brunch specials. Thank you for making the best of a cloudy, windy day!
The doors do not open until 11:00 am, so if you arrive early you will have to wait.
The charcuterie board was very good. That was the highlight of our meal. 2 of us got the burger. It was tasty, but could only eat half as it was very dry. The truffle fries were undercooked and no flavor.
My sister had something with biscuits and gravy and a pork chop. That too was dry and the entire meal was disappointing.
I probably will not go back there to eat. I was disappointed with the food as a whole.
Great time. Excellent wine and craft beer. All our food was wonderful and desert was delicious.
The site is lovely. The appetizers were pretty good, but the main courses for some in our party were only okay. For the price paid would have expected much better quality. Specifically, the pork was dry as dust and inedible, the accompanying sides to the pork were okay. The burger and the fries were just okay.
